Lot # 19001 (Sale Order: 1 of 710)

Footlight Parade (Warner Brothers, 1933). Lobby Card (11" X 14"). This was choreographer Busby Berkeley''s last, and probably best, movie in his Warner Brothers musical trilogy of 1933. James Cagney plays Chester Kent, a Broadway producer who is out of business because of talking pictures. He starts producing musical "prologues" for movie theatres and is offered a contract by a producer, the only catch is he has to stage three new productions in just three days. A great supporting cast including; Joan Blondell, Ruby Keeler, Dick Powell, Frank McHugh, and Ruth Donnelly. There are border imperfections; pinholes, smudges, and small tears. Fine....more

Lot # 19002 (Sale Order: 2 of 710)

The Great Ziegfeld (MGM, 1936). Title Lobby Card (11" X 14"). This was MGM''s star studded biopic of flamboyant impresario Florenz Ziegfeld. William Powell stars in the title role as the famed producer who creates fabulous Broadway extravaganzas. Luise Ranier won an Oscar for her role as the French actress Anna Held, Ziegfeld''s first wife, and her "telephone scene" in the movie is a cinema classic. The lovely Myrna Loy gives a radiant performance as Billie Burke, Ziegfeld''s second wife, along with other notables that appear in the film such as Frank Morgan, Fanny Brice, Ray Bolger, Will Rogers, and Eddie Cantor. Offered here is the title lobby card that features many of the stars that appeared in the film. There are a few scattered pinholes, otherwise the card is in excellent condition. Very Fine....more

The Great Ziegfeld (MGM, 1936). (2) Lobby Cards (11" X 14"). William Powell was a natural to portray the great Florenz Ziegfield in this MGM musical extravaganza. The Great Ziegfeld (MGM, 1936). (3) Lobby Cards (11" X 14"). Offered here are three scene cards that showcase the gorgeous costumes and sets that were created for this film. Florenz Ziegfield produced some of the most extravagant numbers ever presented on a Broadway stage and these cards capture not only the stunning costumes that were worn, but also the lovely ladies that brought them to life. The Great Ziegfeld (MGM, 1936). (2) Lobby Cards (11" X 14"). One of the qualities that made William Powell a natural to play Florenz Ziegfield in this musical production was his comedic talents. Offered in this lot are scene cards that highlight two of the film''s best comedy scenes. The first features Powell and Fanny Brice. The second shows Powell caught in a compromising situation as Luise Ranier looks on. There are border pinholes and some border toning, otherwise both of the cards display extremely well. Lot # 19006 (Sale Order: 6 of 710)

Swing Time (RKO, 1936). Promotional Poster (17" X 34"). This was the sixth pairing of RKO''s legendary dance team, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. This film followed their 1935 hit "Top Hat" and may well be their very best. Directed by the great George Stevens at a time when he was at his peak, all of the elements in this film come together in spectacular fashion. Some of the great songs presented in the film include such favorites as "Never Gonna Dance," "A Fine Romance," "Pick Yourself Up," "Bojangles of Harlem," and "The Way You Look Tonight." The poster has had minimalist style professional touch up to tears in the "me" and "w" of the title. Offered here is an extremely rare promotional poster that was distributed to theater owners prior to the film''s release, displaying beautiful images of Astaire and Rogers in all their 1930s glamour. The famous dancing duo perform one of their most memorable signature pieces, " I Won''t Dance," along with "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes." Lot # 19008 (Sale Order: 8 of 710)

Strike Up the Band (MGM, 1940). Poster (40" X 60"). Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney made a number of films together and in the process became two of the highest paid stars of the 1940s. In this programmer, Rooney starts a swing band in his high school and has to raise money to travel to Chicago so the band can enter a national contest! Of course the only way they can raise money is to "put on a show" (which happened in every Rooney and Garland film), which made a great excuse to put as many songs into the picture as possible. Audiences loved every minute of it, and it made their movies some of the most popular of the era. There are areas of paper loss around the borders, primarily in the corners. There is one longer tear that runs vertically down the center, light surface wrinkles and several smaller border tears and dings. The great sketch artist Al Hirschfeld created the terrific characters displayed on this poster. Fine on Paper....more

The Pirate (MGM, 1948). Six Sheet (81" X 81"). Vincente Minnelli directed his then-wife Judy Garland and Gene Kelly (who also co-choreographed with the Nicholas Brothers) in this very colorful love story of a woman who fantasizes about life on the high seas with the black pirate, Macoco. This film was a rarity in that it was one of the very few times Cole Porter wrote a musical score specifically for a film. There is fold line wear with separation at the crossfolds, tears, chips, small holes and multiple pinholes. This large format poster offers a colorful, stunning display of both Kelly and Garland. This film follows the ups and downs of Cole''s musical career, from his early beginnings to his eventual rise to international stardom. Songs featured in the film were; "Sweet Lorraine," "Route 66," "That''s My Girl" and "Pretend." Nat ''King'' Cole and Russ Morgan and His Orchestra (Universal International, 1953). One Sheet (27" X 41"). This musical short featured the legendary Nat "King" Cole performing his hit "Pretend." Cole''s velvet smooth voice, and soft, easy demeanor crossed all racial boundaries and made him a perennial fan favorite. Many people do not realize that as great a singer as Nat was he was probably an even greater pianist, and had he not taken up singing he may have been the one of the greatest jazz pianist ever. Lot # 19013 (Sale Order: 13 of 710)

Carmen Jones (20th Century Fox, 1954). One Sheet (27" X 41"). Director Otto Preminger broke new ground when he cast Dorothy Dandridge, Harry Belafonte, and Pearl Bailey in the lead roles for his Oscar Hammerstein musical: an adaptation of Bizet''s classic opera, "Carmen." The poster has pinholes in the corners, minor separation at the center points, some small tears in the borders, some scotch tape reinforcing some of the fold lines on the reverse, and very minor bug holes in one seam. All of these defects sound far worse than the poster appears, and the colors are vibrant. This poster would appear mint if linen backed. Very Good....more

Lot # 19015 (Sale Order: 15 of 710)

Singin'' in the Rain (MGM, 1952). Lobby Card Set of 8 (11" X 14"). Arguably the best movie musical ever made. Writers Betty Comden and Adolph Green wrote the story after the musical numbers had been penned. Production days often ran into the 19 hour mark and Gene Kelly was near delirium with a 103 degree fever, but he still insisted on shooting the rain sequence to avoid losing production time. Gene dancin'' in the rain and Donald O''Conner makin'' em laugh created the perfect movie musical. There is light soiling, slight tears, smudges, bumps and pinholes. The Sound of Music (20th Century Fox, 1965). Roadshow Six Sheet (81" X 81"). With music by Rodgers and Hammerstein and directed by Robert Wise, Fox brought one of the greatest musicals to the screen with "The Sound of Music." This was a true account of the musical Von Trapp family who were forced to flee Austria with the rise of the Nazi''s before the outbreak of World War II. The roadshow posters for this film are the most desirable as they don''t feature the five Oscars the movie would go on to receive. Oliver! (Columbia, 1968). Three Sheet (41" X 81") and Set of (12) Deluxe "Roadshow" Lobby Cards (11" X 14"). Adapted from Dickens''s classic novel, it''s one of the most dramatically involving and artistically impressive musicals of the 1960s, directed by Carol Reed. Mark Lester plays the waifish orphan Oliver Twist, who is befriended by the pickpocketing Artful Dodger (Jack Wild) and recruited into the gang of boy thieves led by Fagin (played to perfection by Ron Moody). The retelling of "Oliver Twist" was the winner of the Best Picture Oscar and most of the posters that have survived for this film are the Academy Award versions. Offered here is the very rare, pre-award three sheet poster for this film. Also offered in this lot is the very rare "roadshow" set of lobbies. The hijinks begin when some escaped convicts pull into their garage and the boys make a plan to capture them for the reward money.
