Lot # 302 (Sale Order: 102 of 127)

The TVR Vixen was built from 1967 until 1973, Ford-engine inmost of its configurations, it succeeded the MGB-engined TVRGrantura 1800S. It is also the basis for the high-performance TVRTuscan which was available in both V6 and V8 engine configurations. The Vixen Series I was introduced in 1967 as an evolution of thediscontinued 1800S. Although it used the same chassis as theoutgoing car, the significant change was the use of the 1599cc FordKent engine. The 1968 S2 was built with the longer (90") wheelbasechassis introduced on the Tuscan V8. The S3 continued to improvethe car with a number of detail changes, the heat extraction ventson the bonnet were decorated with 'Aeroflow' grilles borrowed fromthe Ford Zodiac Mk. IV and the Ford four-cylinder engine was now inthe same tune as in the Ford Capri. Finally, the S4 cars were aninterim model that used the TVR M Series chassis with the Vixenbody shell. The 2500, built between 1971 and 1972, was designed totake advantage of the fact that the Triumph 2.5 liter inline-sixengine had already been certified for US emissions standards. This is a stunning TVR Vixen 2500 and has had full body-off,photo documented, rebuild in the 1990s by TVR specialist, JimOliver, and is still in excellent condition throughout. The engineis a Triumph straight six, 2500cc unit that has been fully rebuilt, upgraded and tuned, fitted with hepolite pistons and has a gasflowed cylinder head and a Kent 'fast road' camshaft. This is matedto a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive and limited slipdifferential. It has been recently been serviced and has beenfitted with new stainless steel manifolds and exhaust. This rare TVR Vixen is finished inmetallic blue with black leather interior and is supplied with aV5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires inApril 2016, spare key and a huge history file containing numerousfolders fully documenting its history, restoration andmodifications. We are informed by the vendor that there are onlythree Vixen's 2500 left registered on the road in the UK so this isa rare opportunity to purchase the most powerful version of thisnow very collectable model.?

Rolls-Royce Silver Spur

Lot # 303 (Sale Order: 103 of 127)

Before David Plastow left his senior position at Rolls-Roycefollowing the take-over of Vickers plc, he had been responsible fora series of models, amongst which was the Rolls-Royce SilverSpirit. It was unveiled in October 1980 as a replacement for theRolls-Royce Silver Shadow. The coachwork of the Silver Spirit hadbeen designed at the in-house styling centre by Fritz Feller andgave the impression of being stretched in comparison with thebodies of the previous generation. The new models had slightlygrown in length and width; height had been cut a little althoughthe styling was more modern than that of its predecessor. Theinterior was dominated by the expected combination of fine wood andsumptuous leather. The Silver Spirit was similar mechanically tothe Silver Shadow, benefitting from the superb Rolls-Royce 6750cc,V8, and also sharing many mechanical characteristics of the modelit replaced. It was also the first Rolls-Royce to be fitted with aretractable Spirit of Ecstasy. The long-wheelbase version wascalled the Silver Spur, four inches longer than the Spirit.Originally supplied by Jack Barclay in London on 14th November1985, this Silver Spur is finished in Masons Black with parchmentinterior and a black everflex roof. The car is also fitted withrear quarter badges and picnic tables to the rear. The original service books are supplied with C431 CTR showing 13service stamps albeit latterly from a specialist. Supplied with aV5 registration document and a current MoT test certificate validuntil 29th September 2016 (no advisories), this Rolls-Royce SilverSpur is very attractively estimated.?

Ferrari 550 Maranello

Lot # 304 (Sale Order: 104 of 127)

The Ferrari 550 Maranello is a two-seat grand tourermanufactured from 1996 and is powered by a front-engined V12. Itshared its platform and 5474cc engine with the 456 but waspositioned as the company's high-end model. It featured a luxuriousand spacious interior and, unusually for a Ferrari, the boot couldaccommodate a set of golf clubs. The 550 has a tubular steel framechassis with light aluminium bodywork. Power steering is variableassist and, to be expected of a car with this performance, discbrakes are fitted all round. Acceleration is an impressive 4.2seconds 0 to 60mph and top speed a reported 199mph. In total, 3083Ferrari 550's were produced. This Ferrari was originally registered on 4th September 1998 andhas covered a mere 28,000 miles during its 17 years on the road. The low mileage is substantiated by a service history and the carhas recently been serviced by Maranello at Egham; we are advisedthe cambelts have also very recently been changed. The silvercoachwork is in very good order as is the contrasting red leatherinterior and we are pleased to advise this 550 Maranello driveswith no known faults. The gearbox and clutch are both smooth inoperation as are the brakes - the 5474cc engine is quiet and veryresponsive. The car comes supplied with a V5 registration documentand a current MoT test certificate valid until 10th September 2016;however interested parties should note the vendor has advised usthat prior to his purchase, the car was subject to a category Dinsurance claim. Our own investigation confirmed the insuranceclaim took place in 2006. The value of Ferrari 550's has increasedsignificantly of late; taking into account the Category D status ofthis example, it is very competitively estimated.?

Pontiac Trans Am 400 (6.6 litre)

Lot # 305 (Sale Order: 105 of 127)

Although Pontiac marketers deemed the sleek 1970 Firebird, 'TheBeginning of Tomorrow', no-one could have imagined the basic carwould be produced for a further twelve years. The five original1970 Firebird models were all coupés and more than ever, most weresports cars at heart. Reduced power ratings for 1971 were offset byavailability of Pontiac's enormous 455 engine in Formula and TransAm models. Mid-1976 brought a Limited Edition Trans Am which setthe style for the incredibly popular Trans Ams to follow. The big455-cid, V8 disappeared after 1976 and 1979 saw the final Pontiac400 V8s. Although less powerful and much more common than earlierhigh-performance Firebirds, late 70s Trans Ams are enjoying renewedpopularity today with fond memories of the movie 'Smokey and theBandit' in which Burt Reynolds speeds across state borders in a1977 model; the police and state troopers in hot pursuit.Offered in the traditional black with gold decals, this t-topbandit has a fully rebuilt and upgraded 6.6 litre engine, coveringjust 800 miles since. The engine and upgrades are extensive andcomprise 455 Ram Jet heads, alloy roller rockers, TRW forgedpistons, Manley stainless valves, sealed power piston rings,Chevette bearings, a competition cam, Eldelbrock RPM intake and a750 CFM double pump Holley carburetor. The transmission is a TH350automatic gearbox  whilst the running gear includes a ten boltrear axle and power disc brakes all sitting on new 15x8 snowflakewheels and tyres. MoT tested until May 2016 and supplied with oldMoT test certificates dating back to the 90s plus receipts for therecent upgrades and parts, why not indulge in an iconicTrans-Am.  Cowboy hat & boots notincluded.?

Ford Gran Torino

Lot # 307 (Sale Order: 107 of 127)

The Ford Torino was manufactured by for the North Americanmarket between 1968 and 1976. The Torino was initially an upscaleversion of the intermediate sized Ford Fairlane which Ford producedbetween 1962 and 1970. Most Torinos were conventional cars andgenerally the most popular models were the four-door saloons andtwo-door hardtops. For 1972, the Torino was redesigned using manycharacteristics carried over from the previous generation. The 1972Torino styling emphasized the 'long hood short deck' look and hadstrong elements of 'coke bottle styling'. The Torino line was alsorevised to be made up of basic models called simply 'Torino' andmore upscale models called 'Gran Torinos'. The most radical changewas a large 'egg-crate' grill in an oval opening with chrome bezelssurrounding the headlamps on each side of the large grill. The rearfeatured a full width bumper that incorporated thin rectangulartail lights into each bumper end. A 1972 Gran Torino was featuredin the iconic films 'Fast and Furious' and 'Gran Torino' with ClintEastwood. This Gran Torino was imported into the UK recently and thevendor, who is a car enthusiast, described the car as being a verygood example. Our inspection confirmed this and, to our delight, the car appears to be as good mechanically as she is cosmetically. The 351ci Cleveland engine started immediately when requested andsounded superb and we can advise ERL 853K drives with no knownfaults. The coachwork is in good order with no signs of corrosion, the interior is virtually unmarked and the ample chromework is asgood as new. Supplied with a V5 registration document and a currentMoT test certificate, this Gran Torino offers style, presence andcomfort making for a delightful experience all round.

Daimler SP250

Lot # 308 (Sale Order: 108 of 127)

Introduced at the New York Motor Show of 1959, the Daimler Dartwas a V8 powered sports car with controversial styling.  TheDart name was soon dropped after the threat of legal action fromChrysler who had a car of that name within their Dodge division;thereafter this new sports car was known as the SP250.  Powerwas provided by a 2.5 litre V8, designed by Edward Turner- famedfor the legendary Triumph Speed Twin motorcycle engine of 1937. TheV8 Daimler motor was revered for the smoothness of its powerdelivery, with 140bhp on tap.  Independent double wishbonefront suspension at the front and half elliptical springs at therear with a live rear axle kept the car on the road with stoppingpower supplied by hydraulic disc brakes on all four corners. The coachwork was constructed with glass reinforced plasticproviding a tough, strong and lightweight shape that enhancedperformance with exciting and non-traditional looks.  The120mph plus capability was recognised by the police and they weresoon being used as high speed chase cars. The SP250 offered today is an early 'A' series model and wasregistered on 24th March 1960 to Mr C.G. Wade of Aldershot. TheDaimler has had a mere six keepers over its lifetime and presentswell in ivory with tan leather. It comes with the original, factorysupplied, hardtop as well as a hood and tonneau cover, providing asolution for all weathers. It is unusual in that it has itsoriginal wheel trims and hub covers, as so many have been convertedto run on wire wheels. The registration number, YUU 98, isdistinctive and original to the car, which is accompanied by asubstantial history file. This includes the original buff logbook,MoT Test Certificates going back to 1972 and many invoices frommarque expert Barry Thorne, including some for engine and gearboxrebuilds. A full respray was carried out in 1989 at a cost of£2,650 and the chassis has been strengthened in the relevant areasto later B/C specification. More recent work carried out involved an overhaul of the brakingsystem including the fitment of a new master cylinder, a steeringupgrade to a later rack and pinion system, new tyres, a stainlesssteel exhaust system and the fitment of Pertronix electronicignition with a  'flame thrower' coil and new high tensionleads. We are informed by the vendor that the car has a strong enginewith excellent oil pressure and that it drives superbly. TheDaimler comes with a V5C registration document and will have afresh MoT test certificate at the time of sale. It is rare to findsuch an unspoilt, early, SP250 and this very tidy example isoffered at a tempting estimate.?

Porsche 928 S2

Lot # 310 (Sale Order: 110 of 127)

The Porsche 928 was a sports-GT sold from 1978 to 1995.Originally intended to replace the iconic 911, the 928 attempted tocombine the power, poise and handling of a sports car with therefinement, comfort and equipment of a luxury coupé creating whatsome Porsche executives thought would be a more appealing vehiclethan the compact and quirky, yet sometimes difficult to handle,911. Originally registered by Rivervale Porsche in June 1985, thisstunning S2 example of Porsche's V8 coupé- presented in metallicsilver with black leather interior and red piping- was one of thelast S2s built and had been factory upgraded with various S4goodies including upgraded brakes to four piston Brembos andupdated ABS with improved brake pad sensor wiring along with asuperior dual-disk clutch.  The wheel offsets were made moreversatile with ¾" spacers as well as improved front wheel bearingsand a 2.20 rear differential- including updated differentialdrain/fill plugs-, giving the engine and drive-train less stressthan earlier years. Other changes were made to the suspensionpoints and the front suspension itself, alongside improved headdesign, flowing intake and thicker cylinder walls, This example isalso sitting the S2 1.23" lower than earlier models. Additionalchanges incorporated improved synchromesh including reverse gear, simpler and more easily tuned fuel-injection and ignition controland higher lift/duration cams (the same as the GT, but withimproved timing). Cosmetic changes included revised floor pan, battery box and rearcross member and the 1986.5 model was seen as the ultimateincarnation of the classic body shape, dubbed the 'GTS' of theclassic body style. Optional equipment also included recoilbumpers, limited-slip differential and widened track rear axle andsunroof all coupled with the extremely desirable manualgearbox. Also complementing this coupé is a comprehensive and stampedservice history including cambelt replacement alongside countlessMoT test certificates, warranting the mileage at an impressive54,121, equating to just 1,800 miles for every year of use. Recentwork has included refurbishing the MAF sensor and oil seals as wellas Porsche brake discs and pads and gas struts for thetailgate. Having been owned by a Porsche enthusiast and club member, thiscar has entered and won many club events and in such a spec, iscertainly a rare and desirable example. Only 893 manual 928s wereever produced for the UK market with a mere 410 manual S or S2Models and it is thought just 25 remain in this S2 to S4specification, with even fewer boasting the limited-slipdifferential and widened track as factory modifications. Fiat 500L

Lot # 313 (Sale Order: 113 of 127)

The Fiat 500 was produced between 1957 and 1975 with limitedproduction of the Fiat 500K estate continuing until 1977. It wasdesigned by Dante Giacosa and, despite its diminutive size, the 500proved to be an enormously practical and popular vehicle throughoutEurope, capturing the hearts and minds of the public. Launched asthe Nuova (new) 500, it was marketed as a cheap and practical towncar.  Measuring only three metres long and originally poweredby a tiny 479cc two-cylinder, air-cooled engine, the 500 redefinedthe term 'small car' and is considered one of the first citycars. This 1970 example was originally sold in its native Italy and wasexported to Holland in 1998, where it was restored approximatelyseven years ago and has since been used as a wedding car. Thecurrent vendor imported the Fiat to the UK in 2014 and has sincecarried out some work to the car including the fitment of a newdynamo and battery, replacement brake lines, a new spare wheel andthe underneath has been treated with Waxoyl. The car comes with aV5 registration certificate and an MoT Certificate, valid untilJune 2016. Documentation from the Fiat's time in Holland is alsosupplied. The 500 presents well in its original finish of orange with blackinterior and the odometer indicates a low mileage of 85,000kilometres. These cheeky little cars are guaranteed to raise asmile and the vendor informs us that this example driveswell.  Fiat 500s have enjoyed a huge increase in popularityover recent years and are an ideal introduction into classic carownership, being cheap to run with excellent availability of spareparts. They also take up very little space!?

Subaru Impreza Turbo AWD Station Wagon

Lot # 314 (Sale Order: 114 of 127)

Introduced on 1st March 1993, the Impreza, which according to anarticle in 'Motor Trend' was initially to be called the Loyale, wasoffered in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive versions andas a four-door saloon or five-door hatchback/station wagon. Subaruchose to continue their longstanding use of the boxer engine in theImpreza. According to Subaru, their configuration of the enginein-line with the transmission minimizes body roll due to the lowercentre of gravity compared with offset engines in most othervehicles. The boxer design provides good vibration mitigation dueto the principles of a very well balanced engine, the movement ofeach piston is largely countered by a piston in the opposingcylinder bank, eliminating the need for a counter-weighted rotatingcrankshaft (harmonic balancer). Torque steer is also minimised withthis type of powertrain layout since the front drive shafts are ofequal length and weight. This genuine UK car was originally registered on 17thOctober 1998 and has had only two former keepers; the currentvendor having owned her for the last seven years. This Subaru comeswith a full main dealer history confirming that the cambelt waschanged at 20,673 miles and again at 43,251 miles and also that aclutch has been fitted together with upgraded four pot brakecallipers and new discs and pads. The overall condition isdescribed by the vendor as being very good, although he has statedthat the air-conditioning requires re-gassing and there is a smalloil leak from the engine, neither of which detract from thedriveability of this Impreza Turbo. Supplied with a V5 registrationdocument and an MoT test certificate valid until 5thJune 2016, this Subaru is offered at no reserve and, with awarranted 55,248 miles, is certainly one to watch.

Lancia Fulvia 1.3S

Lot # 315 (Sale Order: 115 of 127)

The Fulvia was an extremelyforward-looking and modern car for its time when it was launched in1963. It was available either as a saloon or as a coupé. Both typeshad a choice of 1,091, 1,216 or 1,298cc engines but the coupés werealso available with a 1,584cc engine. Fulvias enjoyed an extensivecompetition history which included winning the International RallyChampionship in 1972.  The influential journal, 'Road andTrack', after testing one in 1967 summed up the Fulvia as 'aprecision motorcar, an engineering tour de force'.The Fulvia Berlina was designed byAntonio Fessia to replace the Lancia Appia. It was a completely newdesign, sharing virtually no components with its predecessor.Whereas the Appia was a rear wheel drive car, the Fulvia moved tofront wheel drive like the Flavia. The general engineering designof the Fulvia was identical to that of the Flavia with the majorexception of the engine; the Flavia having a four cylinder, horizontally opposed engine and the Fulvia a 'Narrow Angle' Vconfiguration as featured on most production Lancias. The Fulviaengine was mounted in front of its transaxle and featuredindependent suspension at the front using wishbones and a singleleaf spring, while a solid axle with a panhard rod and leaf springswas used in the rear. Four wheel Dunlop disc brakes were fitted tofirst series Fulvias. This three owner from new Series 2example is presented in sound, original condition with only 52,000kilometres showing on the odometer. The car was originally orderedwith paintwork in Lanchamp Bronze, which was normally onlyavailable on the HF models and it has not been repainted since, according to the vendor. The underside has been rust proofed andthe car benefits from recent work on the braking system includingthe fitment of a new master cylinder, calipers, pads, hoses andrear brake regulator. The car has been recently serviced and alsobenefits from time spent on a rolling road. Electronic ignition hasbeen fitted to improve reliability and the car sits on its originaland desirable Cromodora alloy wheels with a fifth as the spare.Included with the car is a pair of 40mm Weber carburettors shouldthe new owner wish to upgrade from the original Solexes.A short drive demonstrated the car'seager performance and agile handling with the engine indicatinggood oil pressure. This desirable Fulvia comes with a valid MoTTest Certificate and is presently on Italian registration papers. With good original examples in short supply, Fulvias are surelygoing to appreciate in value and this tidy example is offered at atempting estimate.

Jaguar 420 Saloon

Lot # 316 (Sale Order: 116 of 127)

The Jaguar S-Type was a major redevelopment of the Jaguar MkII.  It used a mid-scale version of the Mk. X independent rearsuspension to replace the Mk. II's live rear axle and featuredlonger rear bodywork among other styling and interior changes. TheS-Type was available with either 3.4 or 3.8-litre XK engines butonly in twin carburettor form because the triple carburettor setupwould not fit into what was essentially still the Mk. II enginebay. By the time of the S-Type's release in 1963, the Mk. IIremained an unexpectedly strong seller despite its age. Althoughthe Mk. X was selling less well than hoped, especially in itsintended market of the USA, Sir William decided to retain all threemodels in the Jaguar range concurrently. The Mk. X was renamed'420G' in 1966 and was joined by another new model, the 4.2-litre420. The 420 was developed to replace the S-Type but because somedemand remained for the S-Type, all four saloon models (Mk. II,S-Type, 420 and 420G) remained on sale until the arrival of theJaguar XJ6 in 1968.This 1968 Jaguar 420 Saloon was in the same family from newuntil it was recently purchased by the vendor direct from thefamily estate where it had been in storage since 1981. The mileageof 76,000 miles is believed to be correct for this matching numberscar. The current owner has completed extensive re-commissioningwhich has included a bare metal repaint, new rubbers all-round,refurbishing the interior woodwork, new headlining, carrying out afull service and rebuilding the carburettors. This 420 is finishedin Old English White with its original blue leather interior andthe original factory chrome wire wheels and comes supplied with aV5C registration document and an MoT test certificate which expiresin October 2016. This is a very rare opportunity to purchase one ofthe rarest production Jaguars of the 1960's.?

Daimler Sovereign

Lot # 319 (Sale Order: 119 of 127)

Based on the 1966 Jaguar 420, a derivation of the previousS-Type model, the Daimler Sovereign was readily identified by thetraditional Daimler fluted radiator surround and the interior wasfurnished with finest quality leather hide upholstery, polishedfigured walnut instrument panel and deep pile carpets that weresufficiently luxurious to satisfy Daimler's establishedclientele. The 420 and Sovereign differed from the S-Type in having a revisedfour-headlight nose reminiscent of the Jaguar Mk. X and werepowered by a 4.2 litre version of the straight-six XK engine. Therewere thoughts of fitting the Sovereign with the Daimler 4.5 litreV8 engine, as used in the Majestic Major but, as this wassignificantly more powerful than the Jaguar XK unit, it would haveled to the Sovereign outperforming the Jaguar 420. Consequentlycompany management did not pursue the idea as the Jaguar marque wasthe one with the sporting image. The Daimler Sovereign offered today was manufactured in January1969 and originally sold through well known Jaguar agents, MurkettBrothers of Cambridge. The car presents very well in midnight bluewith a matching interior and silver wire wheels. The vendor informsus that the car drives very well with no known faults. Recent workcarried out to the car includes the fitting of new fuel tanks andnew rear sections of the exhaust system. The Daimler comes with acurrent V5C registration certificate, a Jaguar Heritage certificateand the original owner's handbook. A fresh MoT test certificatewill be obtained prior to the sale. With fewer than 6,000 examplesmanufactured, the Sovereign is one of the rarest Daimler/Jaguarsaloons and good examples are consequently hard to find. Thiselegant Sovereign shows an indicated 84,500 miles and is offered ata very tempting estimate.

Mercedes-Benz E220 Convertible

Lot # 320 (Sale Order: 120 of 127)

Mercedes-Benz introduced the 'E-Class' to the market in 1985,with the cabriolet version available from 1991. Much of the 124'sengineering, and many of its features, were advanced automotivetechnology incorporating innovations that have been adoptedthroughout the industry.  It had one of the lowest dragcoefficients of any vehicle at the time, due to its aerodynamicbody, which included plastic moulding for the undercarriage tostreamline airflow beneath the car- reducing fuel consumption andwind noise. It had a single windscreen wiper that had an eccentricmechanism at its base, extending the wiper's reach to the topcorners of the windscreen. The coupés and convertibles had optionalrear headrests that would fold down remotely to improve rearwardvisibility when required. This beautiful E220 Automatic is presented in Brilliant Silverwith black leather interior and was supplied by Bradshaw Webb ofChelsea; registered for the first time in May 1996. Jaguar Mk. II 2.4 litre

Lot # 321 (Sale Order: 121 of 127)

The lineage of the Mk. II can be directly traced back to itspredecessor, the 2.4 saloon, or Mk. I as it would become known inlater years. This sporting saloon, designed to fill the gap inJaguar's range between the XK sports and voluminous Mk. VII,entered the market in 1956. Power came from the legendary XKstraight six, twin cam, engine in 2483cc form. The 2.4 was notableas being a complete break away from the previous designs of (Sir)William Lyons and Co., and was their first foray into the modernworld of monocoque construction. Traditional Jaguar buyers wouldnot feel alienated by the new offering from Coventry however, asthe interior was up to their usual standards, with leather andwalnut being the order of the day. Rather than introduce acompletely brand new car, Jaguar successfully re-designed the carfrom stem to stern, and the Mk. II was born, debuting in 1959. Thechunky windscreen pillars of the early car were replaced by slimmerofferings giving a much more airy cabin, which both improved thestyling and freshened up the design for the new decade. This superb example was originally registered to Mr L.H. Odell ofWindsor, Berkshire in February 1962 and has had four owners overits life, covering a mere 26,900 miles in that time. The currentvendor purchased the Jaguar from Martin Jol with the intention ofmaking it a present for his father. The car was taken to Jaguarrestorer Lee Scott for recommissioning where it was pronounced tobe a superb and very original example. The car was fitted with anew clutch, brakes and exhaust system while the underside wastreated with Waxoyl. The interior underwent sympatheticrefurbishment with the seats being renovated, the sound proofing inthe doors replaced and the fitment of a new headlining. Themetallic blue paintwork, although showing a few blemishes, wasdeemed to be too good and original to be resprayed and so retainsits factory finish. The Jaguar was treated to a new set of chromewire wheels and tyres at a cost of £3,500 and which lookmagnificent. The car starts easily and settles down to a smooth idle. A blip ofthe throttle produces that wonderful sound that is peculiar to theJaguar Mk. I and II saloons. We are informed that the car drivesvery well and is comfortable in modern traffic as it has thebenefit of the original overdrive. The Jaguar comes with an extensive history file which includesoriginal handbooks, service book, manufacturer's warranty and acomplete MoT history which shows the mileage to be genuine. Thereis a current V5 Registration Certificate and an MoT TestCertificate, valid until August 2016.  Jaguar's iconic compactsaloon has a deservedly huge following and this delightful exampleoffers an inexpensive entry into classic Jaguar ownership.?

Mercedes-Benz 500E

Lot # 323 (Sale Order: 123 of 127)

From 1990 to 1995, Mercedes-Benz sold a high-performance versionof the W 124, the Mercedes-Benz 500 E. It was created in closeco-operation with Porsche; each one being hand-built by Porsche andtransported back and forth between the Mercedes-Benz plant andPorsche's Rossle-Bau plant in Zuffenhausen, Germany duringassembly, with a full 18 days being taken to complete each car. The500 E had a naturally aspirated 5.0 litre, V8 engine derived fromthe 500 SL (R 129) and the brakes were also SL components. The 500E was manufactured as a four seat saloon and in lefthand driveonly. The leather seats were supplied by Recaro with the frontsbeing electrically operated and heated. Called the 'Wolf in Sheep'sClothing' by the press, performance tests of the day yieldedimpressive results with 0-62 mph times of 5.5 to 6.0 seconds. Thetop speed was 161.5mph with the engine speed limited to 6000rpm.With its aggressive stance, 1.5 inch wider track, lower profile, flared wheel arches, side skirts, front air-dam and wider tyres, the 500 E is easily distinguished from its lesser brethren. The 500 E offered today was sold new to Japan and has onlyrecently been imported into the UK, so benefits from never havingbeen driven on salty roads. The Mercedes features a number ofcosmetic changes to bring it in line with the later E 500specification, with a later bonnet, radiator grille, bootlid andlights. The coachwork is finished in metallic black with a matchingblack leather interior and it presents in excellent condition, withthe odometer showing 146,000 kms, which is quite low for a carcapable of covering a great many miles. The car will be suppliedwith a UK registration certificate and a full service and MoT testwill have been carried out prior to the sale. Some service invoiceswill also accompany the car. Already considered a classic, this hand-built Mercedes-Benz offersincredible performance for the money and will surely be anappreciating asset.?

Volkswagen Beetle Baja

Lot # 324 (Sale Order: 124 of 127)

Baja Bugs originated in Southern California in the late 1960s asan inexpensive answer to the successful Volkswagen-based dunebuggies of the mid-1960s. The first fibreglass Baja kit (bug-eyekit) was not introduced until 1969. In the early days beforefibreglass body panels became available, enthusiast and racerssimply made their own modification to both the body and mechanicsof a stock VW to develop a machine suited to harsh, off-roadenvironments. The metal bumpers and front and rear aprons of thecar would be partially cut away to allow more for ground clearanceand suspension travel whilst also leaving the engine totallyexposed to aid cooling. A tubular steel cage front and rear bumperis fitted to the body and floor pan for protection of engine andoccupants.Manufactured in 1977, this is a genuine Beetle Baja and isthought to have only had two owners from new. The original ownerpurchased the car in the U.S. for his daughter as an18th birthday present and on moving to the UK, broughtthe car with them. At the time it was believed to be the onlygenuine Baja in the UK; it is not known how many are here todayalthough the numbers are thought to be very low. The current vendorhas owned the Volkswagen since 1993 and is only selling her due tolack of suitable storage space. This Beetle Baja is fitted with a1660cc hi-performance engine, twin Kadron carburettors and is saidto produce some 100bhp. With the exception of both doors, this VWis largely original including the Californian bubble rear windows, leather and velour seats and pearlescent white coachwork. GenuineCalifornian Baja's are rare; this example comes with a greathistory folder and is sure to create interest from VWenthusiasts.

The Jaguar XJS was a luxury grand tourer produced from 1975through to 1996, replacing the E-Type. Although it never had quitethe same sporting image, the XJS proved a competent grand tourerand was actually more aerodynamic than the E-Type. The last XJS wasproduced on 4th April 1996; at that stage 115,413 had been producedduring a 21 year production life and the specifications of the XJScompared well with both Italian cars; it was able to accelerate to60mph in 7.6 seconds and had a top speed of 143mph.
