Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit

Lot # 127 (Sale Order: 26 of 136)

Before David Plastow left his senior position at Rolls-Roycefollowing the take-over of Vickers plc, he had been responsible fora series of models, amongst which was the Rolls-Royce Silver Spiritand was unveiled in October 1980 as a replacement for theRolls-Royce Silver Shadow. The coachwork of the Silver Spirit hadbeen designed at the in house styling centre by Fritz Feller andgave the impression of being stretched in comparison with thebodies of the previous generation. Direct comparison, however, showed only small differences. The new models had slightly grown inlength and width; height had been cut a little, although thestyling was more modern than that of its predecessor. The interiorwas dominated by the expected combination of fine wood andsumptuous leather. This truly period example has been the sole preserve of oneowner since its build date some 36 years ago. Finished in claretwith beige hide with a factory black vinyl roof, it has veryrecently benefitted from recommissioning with over 60 hours labourand £8,700 spent on costs. It has been in secure dry and heatedstorage for most of its life, hence the incredibly low millage ofjust 41,001 and the correspondingly superb condition both under thebonnet and throughout the cockpit. The tool kit is unused and astainless steel exhaust system has been fitted. Factory buildsheets are included along with a full wallet with all books andservice details from Jack Barclay as well as a brand new MoT testand service. These blue-blood Rolls-Royces are on the rise and goodexamples are worth investing in.?

Rolls-Royce Drophead Coupe by MPW

Lot # 128 (Sale Order: 27 of 136)

The motor industry's almost wholesale switch to unitaryconstruction and, in particular, Rolls-Royce's adoption of themethod for building its new Silver Shadow, meant that by themid-1960s the market for traditional coachbuilt automobiles hadbeen severely curtailed. Of the many hundreds of firms tradingpre-war, just two - James Young and the now combined firm of H JMulliner, Park Ward Ltd. - were left to meet the demand for acoachbuilt Rolls-Royce or Bentley, though these might be moreaccurately termed conversions rather than 100% bespoke creations.Recalling its glamorous Grands Routiers of pre-war days, such asthe Phantom II Continental, Rolls-Royce's final coachbuilt models -entrusted to the company's in-house coachbuilder H J Mulliner, ParkWard - were limited to just two, a two-door coupé or similarconvertible, the former arriving in March 1966. This righthand drive convertible is finished in the mostattractive colours of red with a beige leather interior and amatching red hood; this must represent one of the most desirablepost-war, coach-built Rolls-Royce's. Supplied with a V5Cregistration document and a current MoT test certificate, this willrequire a little time and investment however she is extremely wellestimated to allow any new owner to take this into account. The caris a solid example and shows no real sign of corrosion in the usualspots and we advised by the vendor that she runs well. The amplechrome appears to be in good order as does the leatherinterior. This Rolls-Royce is eminently useable for any occasionand, being from a very small number of examples made, will be anattractive addition to any collection of high qualitymotorcars.?

Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II

Lot # 132 (Sale Order: 31 of 136)

When the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was released to the public inOctober 1965, the development departments were showing the resultof work carried out over a period of some ten years. The new modelswere technically striking in three ways. A monocoque chassis wasused; all wheels were sprung independently and four wheel discbrakes now ensured stopping power of the sort that had come to beexpected in a modern car. Under the bonnet, the V8 engine that hadbeen introduced in the Silver Cloud series was employed. InFebruary 1977, the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II was introduced. Themost notable changes mechanically were to the rack and pinionsteering and modifications to the front suspension which improvedhandling markedly. This Silver Shadow II is finished in Brewster Green with abeautifully refurbished beige leather interior. Importantly, withthis outstanding example, is a fully stamped service booklet up to55,000 miles; it also comes with some further bills substantiatingthe mileage. First registered on 12th December 1979 and suppliedwith a number of extras such as four headrests and both externalmirrors, this example has clearly been cherished. In recent years,a top of the line LPG fuel conversion was fitted at great expensethus enabling this Shadow to start on petrol and then transfer toLPG which can be purchased for as little as 60p per litre! With afull years MoT test certificate and a clear HPI report, thisRolls-Royce represents enormous quality for modest outlay.

Kouger Sports

Lot # 135 (Sale Order: 34 of 136)

Rick Stevens founded Kougar Cars in 1979, although the first(approximately 30) cars were marketed by a company called StorcourtWells Ltd. He built the prototype in 1976 which incorporated analuminium body, all the other cars have a fibreglassbodyshell.  Rick's inspiration for the Kougar originated inhis ownership of a Jaguar S-Type saloon but recognised that it hada scrap value of only £100 to £200. He also realised that a firstclass sports car could be made by connecting the heavy lumps of theJaguar together with a simple light weight body and chassis unit. The sports car design was not directly inspired by any particularvehicle but he admitted to having a certain fondness for the FrazerNash TT replica and the Healey Silverstone.Registered on 19th April 1968 as a Daimler SP250 this Kougar isnow fitted with the ultra reliable 4235cc six-cylinder XK unit, mated to a manual gearbox. The vendor - a knowledgeable classic carenthusiast has enjoyed owning WPO464F and is only selling thisstylish sports car due to lack of suitable storage space. We areadvised she drives well and the engine appeared to have excellentoil pressure during our inspection. Sitting proudly on wire wheelsthis Kougar is offered for sale with a V5C registration documentand a current MoT test certificate, together with a tonneau coverin anticipation of any unpredictable weather. ?

Paul's father, Mike, was a renowned architectural modelmaker.  From Mike, Paul was taught business ethics, form andperspective - attributes so lacking in many of today's workingartists. Paul travelled to the United States in the late 1970s forwhat he imagined would be a three week holiday; he ended up stayingfour years!  Soon after arriving in America, Paul was workingfor Los Angeles Art Studios, CBS Television and Disney, with whom, years later, he was to work on the Euro Disney Project. In 1990,the Wiggins Group Plc. commissioned Paul to produce a 650 ft. longartwork hoarding for their South Quay site in London Docklands forwhich he was awarded The Evening Standard EnvironmentalAward.  In the same year, he was elected as a Fellow of theRoyal Society of Arts (F.R.S.A.). Under the guidance of DerekJohns, ex-Director of Sotheby's and Old Master dealer in St.James's, Paul decided to further strengthen his ties with the FineArt market.  In 1995, he undertook a commission for some verylarge still life paintings for the restaurant that became GordonRamsay's 'Petrus', in St James's, London.  He followed this in1998 with a solo exhibition at Derek Johns Ltd., in Duke Street,SW1. Paul's depth of talent is further exemplified when viewing hiswork on other mediums, including design and artwork for the VirginF1 racing cars and monumental scale commissions on commercialaircraft, coaches and even the Radio 1 roadshow trucks. Hispaintings of iconic and popular figures, from the likes of TheRolling Stones, Johnny Depp, Sir Michael Caine and Grace Kelly arehanging in the homes of the famous and infamous and form part ofmany corporate and private collections in the UK and beyond. Paulis passionate about sharing and explaining his skills and takes anactive part in supporting children wishing to do work experience, also tutoring at schools and demonstrating at Art Groups. Apart from being a working artist, Paul has always been a lifelong "petrol head" and has a collection of vintageLambrettas. In 2012 he bought a Bentley Mulsanne S and coveredit in artwork depicting the British Empire to commemorate theQueen's Diamond Jubilee; later selling the car at one of ourauctions within Mercedes-Benz World. The Art: Christopher George Latore Wallace (May21, 1972 - March 9, 1997), better known by his stage names TheNotorious B.I.G., Biggie, or Biggie Smalls was an American rapper. He is consistently ranked as one of the greatest and mostinfluential of all time. On March 9, 1997, an unknown assailantkilled Wallace in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles. Hisdouble-disc album, Life After Death, was released 16 days later, rose to no. 1 on the U.S. album charts and was certified Diamond in2000; one of the few hip-hop albums to receive this certification. So how did the artwork on this Mercedes-Benz come about? Paulquotes, "I was playing a gig with my band and I saw this carlooking forlorn in a corner of a car park. My son said that's thesort of car the gangster rappers used in America in the 1990s. Thesubject matter seemed perfect so I researched the subject anddecided that Biggie Smalls and his rival Tupac were ideal. Imanaged to buy the car and started the work."You are advised to take the time to study this fantastic pieceof art closely. There are so many details to marvel at but featuresinclude Biggie Smalls depicted on the bonnet with Tupac on the bootlid. The black and white image of Tupac is of almost photographicquality. Dollar Bills embellish both sides whilst the stars andstripes flow over the roof. 18-carat gold leaf and Sterling Silverhas been used to decorate various areas and Swarovski Crystals areset into the alloy wheels.  The bullet holes are painted withsuch a deft touch that you want to feel them. Hand airbrushed withbrush detailing, this piece of work is truly outstanding. The Car: This 1994 S500 is in good order; infact, on a recent test drive, the car drove extremely well.Equipment includes a sunroof, sport mode automatic transmission, aftermarket 19" alloy wheels, grey leather, reversing aerials, front and rear passenger compartment adjustable seats and heatingand switchable traction control. Morris Mini Traveller 'Woody'

Lot # 138 (Sale Order: 37 of 136)

The first Morris Mini Traveller was built on 29th March 1960 butnot despatched until 27th July 1960 to Welder Ltd.  UnlikeMorris Mini saloons, which came out of the Cowley plant, allTravellers were built at Longbridge. The first cars were availablein the same paint colours as the Mini Saloons of the time. Theinterior also matched that of the saloon with a white speedometerhoused in a single round cowling and two-tone seats.  Costing£623, the estates were available only in a De Luxe trim level whichincluded a recirculating heater, bumper overriders, silver insertround the screen and chrome sill edging, filler cap and wheeltrims. Two wing mirrors were fitted as standard, since this was alegal requirement at the time for estate cars, but a rear viewmirror was an optional extra, as were seatbelts! The rear floor pressing of the early estates resembled that of anextended saloon with the battery being retained in its traditionalMini location in the boot. One of the most interesting things aboutthe very early Traveller and Countryman cars was the internal fueltank. It was positioned on the lefthand side in the rear of the carand was trimmed to match the boot. These so-called internal tankcars are easily recognisable by the filler cap being justunderneath the rear window on the lefthand side of the car.Production of the internal tank cars was so limited that these havebecome the most sought after of all Mini estates. This 'Woody' has had single family ownership from new and in2014 was subject to a full body restoration by renowned Minispecialists, Super Mini Ltd. of Weybridge, which included powdercoating the sub frames. It is important to note that this examplehas all its original wood and is one of only 17 automatic examplesthought to be left in existence. Offered in splendid deep red withmatching interior, this example has recently been on display with amodern Mini dealership in Guildford and is including an MoT testcertificate until January 2018. Offered in pristine condition, thisrare car 1000cc Traveller is a treat for all Minienthusiasts.?

BMW 850Ci

Lot # 139 (Sale Order: 38 of 136)

Design of the 8-Series began in 1984 with the final design phaseand production development in 1986. It debuted at the FrankfurtMotor Show in early September 1989 and was designed to move beyondthe market of the original 6-Series. The 8 Series however hadsubstantially improved performance as well as a far higher purchaseprice. Over 1.5 billion Deutsche Marks were spent on development;BMW used CAD tools, still unusual at the time, to design the car'sall-new body. Combined with wind tunnel testing, the resulting carhad a drag coefficient of 0.29 and offered the first V12 enginemated to a six-speed manual gearbox on a road car. It was also oneof the first vehicles to be fitted with an electronic'drive-by-wire' throttle.Presented in very good metallic blue paintwork and a contrastinggrey leather interior, this 850ci comes with a host of extras suchas air conditioning, ABS and heated seats; it still looks like amodern sporting coupé. Having been cherished throughout its life, which can be ascertained from countless BMW and specialist stampsin the service booklet with the last less than 500 miles ago, thisexample is in lovely condition. The history file contains receipts, old MoT test certificates including a new MoT test certificatevalid until February 2018,  BMW handbooks and two keys. Acommanding 90's sports car representing great value especially withthe prices for modern classic V12's everincreasing.?

Ford Consul Capri

Lot # 140 (Sale Order: 39 of 136)

The Capri was a two-door coupé version of the Ford Classicsaloon made by Ford of Britain. The Ford Classic was a result offour years of development with approval for the project given inAutumn 1956. The styling of the car was the last project undertakenby Colin Neale before he left Dagenham for Dearborn. The initialdesign requirement was for the Ford Classic to be a full rangemodel to take Ford into the new decade, Ford even developed afull-size estate prototype. The Capri Project was code named'Sunbird' and took design elements from the Ford Thunderbird andthe Ford Galaxie Sunliner. It was instigated by Sir Horace Denne,Ford's Sales Director, he wanted a 'co-respondent's' car to addglamour to the product line. In its September announcement, theCapri was for export only but went on sale to the domestic Britishmarket in January 1962. The bodies were sub-assembled by PressedSteel Fisher with only final assembly taking place at Dagenham inEssex. It was intended as part of the Ford Classic range of carsbut the body was complex and expensive to produce. The Ford Classicwas made from 1961 to 1963, and replaced by the Cortina-derivedFord Corsair.Originally registered on 1st January, 1963, this FordCapri presents in excellent order throughout. The white coachworkis unmarked showing no sign of corrosion and the red interior issuperb, the vendor has had the front seats trimmed in leather foradditional comfort. The 1499cc engine started 'on the button' andran very well, the pre-cross flow design of these Ford units issupremely simple yet efficient and reliable. A remote gear leverhas been fitted improving the ergonomics and we are advised thisCapri drives with no known faults. The underside of 3706 UP isremarkable and, taking into account this car is 53 years old, shehas obviously been well cared for throughout. The design of thesestylish Fords is a cross pollination between British and Americaninfluence, the four round headlamps, pillarless coupé and rearfins, together with an enormous boot all contribute to making thisa design classic. Supplied with a history folder, a V5Cregistration document and a current MoT test certificate validuntil 29th October 2017, this Capri is exceedingly rare.An example such as this will therefore represent a prudentopportunity given today's active market for classic Fords.

Ferrari Mondial QV GTB (3.2 litre)

Lot # 142 (Sale Order: 41 of 136)

With a name reminiscent of the 500 Mondial race cars from the1950s, the Ferrari Mondial was a replacement model for the Ferrari308 GT4. The Mondial was the first Ferrari where the entireengine/gearbox/rear suspension assembly was mounted on a detachablesteel subframe, making engine removal for a major rebuild orcylinder head removal much easier than it was on previous models. The steel coachwork was taken care of by Carrozzeria Scaglietti andbuilt over a lightweight steel box section space frame. The Mondial8 is considered one of the marque's most 'practical' vehicles, dueto its 214hp, proven drivetrain, four seats and relatively low costof maintenance; major services can be performed without removingthe entire engine/transmission subframe. Originally registered on 5th January 1988, thisFerrari Mondial is owned by a knowledgeable classic car enthusiast. We are advised E549FRO drives well and is supplied with theoriginal service books, together with a comprehensive historyfolder. Citroën DS23efi Pallas

Lot # 145 (Sale Order: 44 of 136)

After 18 years of secret development, the DS19 was introduced on5th October 1955 at the Paris Motor Show. In the first 15 minutesof the show, 743 orders were taken and orders for the first daytotalled 12,000 cars. To a France still deep in reconstructionafter the devastation of World War II, the DS was a symbol ofFrench ingenuity. It was the first mass-production car with frontpower disc brakes. It also featured hydro pneumatic suspensionincluding an automatic self-levelling system, variable groundclearance, power-steering, a semi-automatic transmission and afibreglass roof which reduced weight. It also sported inboard frontbrakes as well as independent suspension. Despite the ratherleisurely acceleration afforded by its four-cylinder engine, the DSwas successful in motorsports like rallying, where sustained speedson poor surfaces are paramount. It won the Monte Carlo Rally in1959 and, controversially in 1966, after the disqualification ofthe BMC Mini-Cooper team. The Citroën DS placed fifth on AutomobileMagazine's '100 Coolest Cars' listing in 2005. Jaguar E-Type Series I Roadster

Lot # 147 (Sale Order: 46 of 136)

Introduced in 3.8 litre form in 1961, the Jaguar E-Type caused asensation when it appeared with instantly classic lines and 150mphtop speed. While, inevitably, the car's stupendous straight-lineperformance and gorgeous looks grabbed the headlines, there was alot more to the E-Type beneath the skin. The newcomer's design owedmuch to that of the racing D-Type and, indeed, the E-Type would beone of the last great sports cars developed directly from asuccessful competition ancestor. Just as in the D-Type, a monocoquetub formed the main body/chassis structure while a tubular spaceframe extended forwards to support the engine. The latter was thesame 3.8-litre, triple-carburettor, 'S' unit first offered as anoption on the preceding XK150. With a claimed 265 horsepower ontap, the E-Type's performance did not disappoint. Firstly, becauseit weighed around 500lb less than the XK150 and secondly, becauseaerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer used experience gained with the D-Typeto create one of the most elegant and efficient shapes ever tograce a motor car.First registered in the second year of E-Type production on the16th November 1962, this early chassis, #850548, was originallydelivered to Mr. J Pitt-Becker of London through Henlys Ltd. and isone of only 942 righthand drive 3.8 litre roadsters. The HeritageCertificate that accompanies the car shows it was manufactured on8th June, 1962 and dispatched on the 21st June and registered JPB23. The old style logbook shows that the registration number JPB 23was removed from the car on the 7th December, 1973 when we assumethe car changed hands and has had two owners since with the currentregistered keeper taking ownership on the 30th January, 2009.Put into storage a number of years ago in the West Country; itruns and drives but we would recommend having a precautionary checkover before the car is used in earnest.Finished in its original colour scheme of Carmen Red with a redinterior, this matching numbers example remains in an unrestored, original condition, showing a wonderful patina throughout and wouldmake an ideal restoration project or indeed, to be a littledifferent, left as it is. Supplied with the aforementioned HeritageCertificate, old style log book, old MoT test certificates and aV5C; it is now rare to find an early example of Jaguar's iconicE-Type in such condition.

Triumph TR2

Lot # 148 (Sale Order: 47 of 136)

The first production road Triumph TR2 left the Triumph works atCanley in August 1953; thereafter production was very slow forseveral months. Just 250 cars were built prior to 1954 of whichonly 50 stayed within the UK. At the start of 1954, productionincreased and TR2s began to dominate the home market. This was dueto Triumph's determination that a reasonable proportion would stayin the UK, whereas MG, Morgan and Jaguar were mainly exporting. Theearly TR2s were sought-after mainly because of their performance, low running costs, availability and low price. Such was the successof the TR2 that in 1954 one entered the famous Mille Miglia eventwhere it came 28th out of 450 starters and in the Le Mans 24 Hoursof that year another TR2 came 5th in class. Both results emphasisedthe strength and performance of the cars. Today we are proud to offer an excellent, 'long door', exampleof the marque. It is presented with British Racing Green coachwork, complemented by tan trim, sits on wire wheels and is supplied witha set of spare steel rims. First registered on 7th October 1954, itwas kept by the same owner until his death in 1995. Between 1995and 2012, the car benefitted from a full refurbishment and has beenstored in a heated garage since.' Long door' TR2s are lighter thantheir later siblings resulting in the cars being very spritely andthis car is no exception with overdrive on 4th gear; high speedcruising is comfortable. The steering has been improved by thefitment of a steering rack in place of the heavy steering box. Thisconversion was carried out by the UK's leading Triumph specialist,'Manvers Triumph'. In addition, a set of 'Quick Fit' seat beltswith period chrome buckles have been added. A full set of weatherequipment includes the hood, tonneau cover and a new set of sidescreens. An air scoop for the carburetors adorns the bonnet andappears not to be a homemade item; this bonnet is believed to be aperiod product from the tuning specialist of the time, Derrington. In fact, a picture of PLB 963 with this scoop may be seen withinBill Piggott's book, 'Triumph By Name, Triumph By Nature' on page88, whereby it is racing another TR2 with a similar bonnet scoop atSnetterton and believed to be in the late 1950s. An extensivehistory file, including a photographic record and receipts of therestoration and a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificateverifies this TR2 as a genuine UK righthand drive example. Thecondition of this 'long door' TR2 is exemplary and we believe it tobe one of the finest in existence; an opportunity indeed for the TRaficionado or prospective Mille Miglia entrant.

Triumph Mistral

Lot # 150 (Sale Order: 49 of 136)

Microplas Ltd. was founded in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire inthe early 1950's by a group of 750 Motor Club enthusiasts who gottogether to design and produce an all-enveloping glass fibre bodyshell for the Austin Seven chassis. Its first design, the Stiletto, was followed in 1955 by the Mistral. Intended for the contemporaryFord Ten chassis with a 7' 6'' wheelbase, the original round-tailMistral looked rather like a scaled down Jaguar D-Type. Crestingthe wave of the 1950's kit car boom, Microplas rapidly expanded, relocating to Mitcham, Surrey and supplying Mistral body shells, its most successful product, to a number of independent producersincluding Buckler, Fairthorpe and TVR.This one-of-a-kind Triumph Mistral, built on a chassis of aTriumph TR3, the front end of an Austin A60 and engine and gearboxfrom Triumph TR4, was built in the late 1960's by electricalengineer, Anthony Snapper.  It features an overdrive for highspeed cruising and the later Kamm tail Mistral bodyshell. With therunning gear based on a Triumph, parts and availability areaccessible and affordable making this Mistral an attractiveproposition to keep on the road. The car sits on wire wheels andhas a tonneau cover to keep the elements at bay while the driverand co-driver are supported by bucket seats. The dash features apassenger map reading light and transmission tunnel-mounted startbutton.Following Mr. Snapper's retirement, the car was advertised forsale and featured in Classic & Sports Car magazine in July 2001with the previous owner being a motor racing enthusiast describingthe car as fun to drive. The car boasts a charming patina that only time and use canachieve and it would be a shame to renovate the paint work. Benz Patent Motorwagen Tribute

Lot # 151 (Sale Order: 50 of 136)

1886 was an interesting year for world firsts; Coca Cola wasinvented, delicious Yorkshire Tea was launched and what is oftenconsidered the very first motor vehicle took to the roads, costinga not inconsiderable $1,000 ($26,337 in today's money). The Benz Motorwagen was awarded its eponymous patent number inNovember 1886 and was held in Karl Benz wife's name. Bertha andKarl Benz chose to publicise it in a unique manner. She took No. 3,supposedly without her husband's knowledge and drove it on thefirst long-distance road trip to demonstrate its feasibility as ameans to travel long distances. She took her teenage sons, Eugeneand Richard, on a ride from Mannheim through Heidelberg andWiesloch (where she took on ligroin as a fuel at the city pharmacymaking it the first filling station in history) to her hometown ofPforzheim. As well as being the driver, Bertha Benz acted as mechanic onthe drive, cleaning the carburettor with her hat pin and using agarter to insulate a wire. As the brakes wore down, she asked alocal shoemaker to nail leather on the brake blocks and in doingso, invented brake lining along the way. After sending a telegramto her husband of the arrival in Pforzheim, she spent the night ather mother's house and returned home three days later covering194km in total.Patent 37435 was then unveiled to the public on July 3, 1886, onthe Ringstrasse in Mannheim. About 25 Patent Motorwagens were builtbetween 1886 and 1893 and, whilst this is not one of them, it doesrepresent a painstakingly constructed reproduction. Accurate to theoriginal plans and using the same materials, it is constructedusing steel tubing with woodwork panels, steel-spoked wheels andsolid rubber tires. Steering used a toothed rack that pivoted theun-sprung front wheel and fully elliptic springs were used at theback along with a live axle and chain drive on both sides. A simplebelt system served as a single-speed transmission, varying torquebetween an open disc and drive disc. The engine is 954cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke unit withtrembler coil ignition producing a heady 2/3hp at 250rpm. It was anextremely light engine for the time, weighing about 220lb, andalthough it's open crankcase and drip oiling system would be aliento a modern mechanic, its use of a pushrod operated poppet valvefor exhaust would be quite familiar. A large horizontal flywheelstabilises the engine's power output with an evaporativecarburettor controlled by a sleeve valve to regulate power andengine speed. Fully operative and with delivery mileage onlyrecorded, this represents a vehicle of iconic importance and shouldbe part of any collection.
