Despite their distinct similarities, thelater 'Buckland Sports tourers' were finished at the Buckland BodyWorks in Hertfordshire. Lot # 155 (Sale Order: 54 of 136)

The Riley Nine was one of the most successful light carsproduced by the British motor industry in the inter-war periodbetween 1926 and 1938. It was largely designed by two of the Rileybrothers, Percy and Stanley. Stanley was responsible for thechassis, suspension and body and the older Percy, designed theengine. At launch in July 1926, two body styles were available, afabric bodied saloon called the Monaco and a fabric four-seattourer with had the option of a steel panelling rather thanfabric. After the car's 1926 launch, it was such a critically acclaimedsuccess that after less than a thousand cars had been produced, theworks quickly shut down side-valve production and tooled up for thenew Nine in early 1928. This switch to the main factory coincidedwith several modernisations of the Mk. I - the cone clutch wasdropped, the gear lever and handbrake were moved from the right tothe centre of the car and a Riley steering box was adopted becomingthe Mk. II. The Mk. III was a gentle update of the II at the end of1928, evolving stronger wheels and a different arrangement of rodsto the rear brakes. This is an absolutely delightful example of Riley's Merlinpresented in restored condition and boasting a lightweight chassisas used in competition Riley's of the era with the same engine.First registered on the 26th July, 1936 and with only four keeperssince, it was purchased by the previous owner in 2012 as a runningcar and taken to Classic Motors of Wembury in Devon who undertook afull restoration of the car. Work carried out included sandblastingand zinc priming of the chassis, body fully restored, the top endstripped for examination and the head de-coked and pressure tested, the interior fitted with new high quality red leather with genuinealcantara seat backs and correctly pleated door cards, newheadlining, all bright work rechromed, a new wiring loom fittedwith genuine new Lucas lighting, five new tyres and new inner tubesand much more besides. The restoration has just been completed andwill be presented with a new MoT test certificate with furtherdocuments including a V5 document and a large history file. Finished in charming two-tone paintwork with the aforementionedcontrasting red hide interior, this is perhaps one of the finestRiley saloons on the market and offers fantastic value for moneywhen compared to similar models, especially considering the £40,000restoration.?

Porsche 911 Carrera Sport Coupé

Lot # 156 (Sale Order: 55 of 136)

The first Porsche 911 was introduced in 1963 as the replacementfor the much loved Porsche 356. It has a distinctive design with arear-engine and independent rear suspension, an evolution of theswing axle on the Porsche 356. The engine was also air-cooled untilthe introduction of the Type 996 in 1998. Since its introduction in1963, it has undergone continual development, although the basicconcept has remained little changed. In 1973, the Carrera name wasre-introduced from the 356 Carrera which had itself been namedafter Porsche's class victories in the Carrera Panamericana racesin Mexico in the 1950s. The most notable advances in 1984 were theintroduction of the 3.2 litre engine. Although it remained anair-cooled 'flat six', the '3.2' was 80% new and incorporated aneffective cam chain tensioner and associated lubrication systemthat at last addressed a perennial 911 shortcoming. With 231bhp ontap, the new 'boxer' motor endowed the Carrera with a level ofperformance approaching that of the original 911 Turbo of 1974.This striking UK-delivered example presents in Guards Red withoriginal beige pinstripe velour interior and black carpets. Thefront seats have electric height and backrest adjustment, the radiois a Blaupunkt Toronto unit with CD/USB player. It also benefitsfrom Bluetooth audio streaming and, usefully, Bluetooth telephonefunctionality. A recent body refurbishment ensures the paintwork isin excellent order throughout. The wheels are 16" Fuchs items withbrand new N-rated Bridgestone rubber all round. A top-end rebuildtook place some 5,000 miles ago with a brand new clutch 200 milesago. Reputable specialists, Gmund Cars, sold and serviced D911 CST,further servicing evidence can be found in the history file. Asolid example of Stuttgart's finest.

Jordan Formula 1

Lot # 158 (Sale Order: 57 of 136)

Jordan Grand Prix was an Irish Formula One constructor thatcompeted from 1991 to 2005.The team is named after businessman andfounder, Eddie Jordan, and were well known for a 'rock and roll'attitude which added colour and character to Formula One in the1990s. In early 2005, the team was sold to Midland Group, whocompeted for one final season as 'Jordan' before renaming the teamas MF1 Racing for the 2006 season before being sold later in 2006to Dutch car manufacturer Spyker and then sold again to becomeForce India in 2008.The Jordan 197 was the car with which the Jordan Formula Oneteam used to compete in the 1997 Formula One season. It was drivenby Ralf Schumacher and Giancarlo Fisichella, who were both in theirfirst season with the team. Ralf was a complete rookie to F1 andFisichella had only a part-season with Minardi behind him. It wasseen as a gamble on the part of Eddie Jordan to recruit two young, inexperienced drivers to replace Rubens Barrichello and MartinBrundle. After a disappointing season in 1996, the team seemedrevitalised for 1997. The car gave Jordan the chance to seriouslychallenge the 'Big Four' teams of that time - Williams, Ferrari,Benetton and McLaren. After a couple of races to get going,Schumacher and Fisichella scored points at almost every race (apartfrom a barren spell at the end of the year) and took three podiumfinishes. Fisichella was particularly impressive and there was abehind-the-scenes battle for his services in 1998 between Jordanand Benetton. The only downside to the 1997 season was the failureto score the team's elusive first win in F1. The car was alsonotable for its distinctive bright yellow livery, as title sponsor,Benson & Hedges chose to change the colour from gold. The carsalso had a snake painted on either side of the nosecone, a forkedtongue that extended back around the sides of the driver's cockpitand numerous scale effects on other parts to the car. When GrandPrix were held in countries that did not allow tobacco advertising, the cars were labelled 'Bitten & Hisses' instead of 'Benson& Hedges'.1997 was a season of mixed results for the Jordan team finishingfifth overall in the constructors' championship. Chassis number197/03 was powered by a Peugeot V10 engine and was driven byGiancarlo Fisichella. Fisichella's most notable achievements weresecond in Belgium and third place in Canada. Complete in Jordanlivery and signed by Eddie Jordan on the nose cone, this piece ofFormula One history is supplied without the engine and gearbox, thus making a superb piece of office art or a great addition to astatic display. The striking bold yellow is synonymous of theJordan team and the eye catching snake on the nose cone wasaffectionately known as 'Hissing Sid'.

Land Rover Series I Fire Tender

Lot # 161 (Sale Order: 60 of 136)

This fascinating piece of social history was originallysold from the Land Rover factory to David Rosenfield Ltd., a LandRover dealer in Manchester. They, in turn, supplied it to CheshireCounty Fire Brigade as a L4P (light four-wheel driven pump) andstationed at Hazel Grove. It then moved to Stalybridge. It wasbuilt as a specialist hi-expansion foam unit which is quite rare.It is thought to have been converted to this configuration to meetthe need for fire fighting at various chemical plants in the area.As a result, it is much more useable than other fire engines asthere are no water tanks and heavy pumps fitted, so all the longwheel-base capacity with none of the extra weight of other fireengines. It left the fire brigade on 14th of May, 1975. Theprevious owner undertook a lot of research and found this historyalong with ten photographs of it in service.  Today itpresents in relatively original condition, it is believed that theengine and gear box are original however the engine number was notrecorded with the DVLA.It is fitted with a 1997cc petrol engine, a standardfour-speed gearbox and hi/low transfer box as well as two and fourwheel drive. The rear tub has a huge capacity being 6'3" long by 5'wide with a load capacity of 1,500lbs. The chassis is solid and thebulkhead is also in good condition. The engine starts easily andruns with everything operating as it should, right down to theWinkworth bell. The bodywork is in great condition and thepaintwork is good but neither are perfect. The whole experience isone of reliability as witnessed when the vendor drove it to Francefor the weekend two years ago. It comes with a British MotorIndustry Heritage Trust Certificate, correspondence relating to itshistory and photographs. Classic car ownership can certainly befascinating and diverse!

The Capri 2.8 Injection revived the ran...morege and kept thecar in production several years longer than Ford had originallyplanned. In 1984, the 2.8 injection model was the subject of asubstantial upgrade and was known as the Capri Injection Special. This development used Recaro half leather seats and included alimited slip differential. Externally, the car could be easilydistinguished by the seven spoke RS wheels, its colour coded grilleand headlamp surrounds. The Ford Capri was the Ford Mustang ofEurope, a mind boggling array of options meant that the Capri couldbe whatever you wanted it to be, just like the Mustang. The Mk. IIIwas a substantial improvement over its predecessor featuringenhanced aerodynamics that led to better performance, improvedeconomy and included the now trademark quad headlamps. In 1981,Ford's faithful 3.0 Litre V6, Essex engine was dropped from theline-up, making way for a new, sporty, version the 2.8 V6, Cologneunit. This two- owner Capri has recently been restored to a highstandard having been taken off the road in 1996 and dry storeduntil 2013. Richard Mallinson of M40 Cars of Thame carried out thework and clearly spent a significant amount of time carrying outthe restoration. Any corrosion on the car was cut out andre-fabricated; it was repainted to the original colour of DiamondWhite, new door seals and a sunroof seal were fitted. The Recaroseats were re-trimmed in the original grey leather along withfabric centres. Mechanically, it was given a complete overhaul, theengine was checked and found to have excellent compressions and thecylinder heads were removed, de-coked and converted to run onunleaded fuel. A new clutch was fitted and the brake systemcompletely overhauled. A new set of wheels were sourced and fivenew tyres fitted. Supplied with a V5C registration document and acurrent MoT test certificate valid until 23rd October2017, together with the original service book and a history folder, this Capri 2.8 injection is a very well presented example.

Ford Lotus Cortina Mk. I

Lot # 163 (Sale Order: 62 of 136)

The history of the Lotus Cortina began in 1961 after ColinChapman decided he wanted to build his own engines for Lotus. Theengine's first appearance was in 1962 at the Nürburgring in a Lotus23 driven by Jim Clark. Immediately after and almost as soon as theengine appeared in the Lotus Elan, it was recalled and replacedwith a larger capacity unit to get the car closer to the 1.6 litrecapacity class in motorsport. Whilst the engine was beingdeveloped, Walter Hayes from Ford asked Colin Chapman if he wouldfit the engine to 1,000 Ford saloons for Group Two homologationcars. Chapman quickly accepted and the Type 28 or Lotus-Cortina wasduly launched. Ford supplied the two-door Cortina body shells andtook care of all the marketing and selling of the cars whilst Lotusdid all the mechanical and cosmetic changes. The major changesinvolved installing the 1,558cc engine together with the sameclose-ratio gearbox as the Elan. Interior modifications werelimited to a centre console designed to accommodate the new gearlever position, different seats and the later style dashboardfeaturing tachometer, speedometer, oil pressure, water temperatureand fuel level gauges as well as a wood-rimmed steeringwheel. First registered in Devon in July 1963, this genuine Lotus CortinaMk. I has covered a mere 6,000 miles in the last 36 years and ispresent on the Lotus Cortina register. Offered with the correctLotus alloy doors, boot & bonnet from new, as with many LotusCortina's by the early 1990's the car was showing its age and indire need of some tlc. The then owner decided to undertake a fullnut and bolt restoration and went on to own the car for a further20 years. The car was re-shelled and then modified as per theoriginal Lotus Cortina bodies, the engine and gearbox rebuilt, thesuspension converted to leaf springs and a full bare-metal re-sprayundertaken. The quality of restoration work was clearly exceptionalas the car is still in superb condition today and the whitepaintwork is virtually unmarked, as is the interior. The current fastidious vendor, a Lotus Cortina enthusiast (havingowned two others previously) has maintained the Lotus with a 'noexpense spared' attitude and the engine has recently benefittedfrom a rebuilt and overhauled head and converted to unleaded fuel.Despite the rebuild in the 1990's, he wasn't quite happy with theway the car was running at the time, however he now explains thecar 'runs like a dream'. Supplied with a V5 registration documentand MoT test certificate valid until 2018 together with a fabuloushistory file with matching engine & cylinder head 2.5 gearboxwith correct alloy castings, this stunning Lotus Cortina is a greatopportunity to own a splendid example of these collectable andhighly sought-after classics.

Morris Mini Cooper S (970cc)

Lot # 168 (Sale Order: 68 of 136)

Designed by Alex Issigonis in 1959, a new concept in car designwas born.  With a monocoque shell, transversely mounted engineand front wheel drive, the new 'Mini', as it was commonly known, soon became popular across a broad spectrum of thepopulation.  The potential for competition use was soon seenby John Cooper and although Alex Issigonis was less keen, BMC werefinally persuaded by John Cooper and the two worked together inculminating the birth of the Austin Mini Cooper and the Morris MiniCooper in 1961. Victories in the 1964, 1965 and 1967 Monte CarloRallies set the Mini on the road to fame but probably the greatestpublicity was gained from their (somewhat unfair) disqualificationfor lighting irregularities in the 1966 event after coming in 1st,2nd and 3rd. A more powerful Mini Cooper, dubbed the 'S', wasdeveloped in tandem and released in 1963. Featuring a 1071cc engineand larger servo-assisted disc brakes, 4,030 Cooper S cars wereproduced and sold until the model was updated in August 1964.Cooper also produced two S models specifically for circuit racingin the under 1,000 cc and under 1,300 cc classesrespectively, rated at 970cc and a 1,275cc. The smaller-enginemodel was not well received, and only 963 had been built when themodel was discontinued in 1965. The 1,275 cc Cooper S modelscontinued in production until 1971.This Morris Mini Cooper S has been restored by the vendor to asuperb standard. Leaving no stone unturned, the engine was removedand stripped down along with the gearbox while the bodywork wasbeing attended to. In addition to this the suspension, brakes andsteering were all rebuilt or replaced as necessary. The quality ofpaintwork is excellent and clearly many hours were spent onpreparing the bodywork correctly by the exceedingly fastidiousvendor. The mileage of 29,281 appears genuine although notwarranted and the interior of this delightful Mini is completelyoriginal apart from the steering wheel. Without doubt Morris MiniCoopers are exceedingly rare, as is a restoration project of thisquality. With an engine that runs like a sewing machine and agearbox that is almost perfect in operation this Cooper S hasperformance and styling in abundance. Supplied with a V5Cregistration document and a current MoT test certificate, this Minihas the original 970cc engine AEG 151 block and 12G 190 gearbox, one of the best Mini Coopers S's we have seen.

Jaguar XK150 Fixedhead Coupé

Lot # 170 (Sale Order: 70 of 136)

Although having a family resemblance to the XK120 and XK140, theXK150 was radically modernised. A one-piece windscreen replaced thesplit screen and the wing line no longer dropped as much over thedoors. The bonnet was widened, opened down to the wings and, on theroadster, the bulkhead was moved back four inches to make thebonnet longer. In the interior, the XK140's walnut dashboard wasreplaced by one trimmed in leather and chrome. On the earlydrophead coupés, an aluminium centre dash panel with an 'X' patternengraving was fitted which looked like the early 3.8 litre, E-Type,whilst thinner doors gave more interior space. The four-wheelDunlop 12" disc brakes appeared for the first time although it wastheoretically possible to order a car with drums and either wirewheels or disc wheels could be specified. Suspension and chassiswere very like those on the XK140.Jaguar Drivers' Club records confirm that chassis numberS824030DN is an early XK150 manufactured in September 1957 andfirst registered in Nottingham with the number 867 ATO. It wassubsequently registered with the British Forces in Germany andknown to the JDC XK Register in 1979, at which time the engine waschanged and the number was recorded as 7627-8. The colour wasrecorded as red and condition as partly restored. This car nextsurfaces in Jersey in 1990 with the registration number J27 500,passing through three ownerships there before returning to the UKin 2012. This XK150 drophead coupé has now been the subject to aground-up restoration which was completed in June 2015 and has hadvery little use since. Finished in dark blue with tan leatherinterior, this example is supplied with a V5C registrationdocument, an MoT test certificate which expires in February 2018and a photographic record of the restoration. Mystery currentlysurrounds the significance of the black boot badge, perhapsfeatures of some early XK150 models. Chassis numbers for the 3.4litre righthand drive, fixedhead coupé commenced at 824001 whichwould indicate that this XK150 was the thirtieth built. Righthanddrive XK Jaguars from this period are very sought after andcollectable and represent a usable classic giving the best of bothworlds, a good investment and an enjoyable driving car.?

Aston Martin DB9 Coupé

Lot # 172 (Sale Order: 71 of 136)

The sleek superformed aluminium body of the DB9 was initiallydesigned by Ian Callum but had also been significantly influencedby the next director of AM design, Hendrik Fisker. It was poweredby a third generation version of the now familiar 6.0 litre, V12and has a top speed of 186mph. The DB9 was the first of what was tobecome a long line of production Aston Martins to use VHarchitecture; using superformed parts in the chassis and footwellas well as the body panels. The individual die-cast, extruded orstamped aluminium elements of the VH platform are bonded withstrong adhesives and self-piercing rivets to make a lightweight butstiff backbone. The DB9 body shell weighed 25% less than that ofthe DB7 but has double its torsional rigidity. This process alsoallowed Aston Martin to retain high levels of engineering accuracyin producing a car at a higher volume, ensuring chassis performanceto match the engine power. Aston Martins have always made theinterior of their cars to be very special places. The fine detailof finishing is typified by the starter button made of glass andsand etched with the Aston Martin wings logo. This righthand drive example presented in Lightening Silver witha matching Phantom Grey leather interior and stitching. The fasciatrim has a carbon finish and brake calipers, grey. Options includerear parking sensors, an integrated telephone system and satnav, tyre pressure monitoring and Armourfend on the front bumper - so nostone chips there.  There is only one recorded owner and itcomes complete with a full main agent service history. Lancia Flavia Berlina

Lot # 174 (Sale Order: 73 of 136)

Launched at the Turin Motor Show in 1960, the Lancia FlaviaBerlina was a medium sized executive motor car powered by Lancia'sall aluminium 1.5 litre boxer engine. The svelte coupé wasdeveloped by Pininfarina shortly afterwards built upon a shortenedplatform. The hand-built cars constructed at Pininfarina's new factorywere considered to be built to a much higher standard than thelater massed-produced cars. Originally manufactured with the 1.5litre engine, it was thought that this power unit was somewhatunder-powered, so a 1.8 litre unit has been fitted. In recentyears, works involved the cylinder head faces being resurfaced,re-cut valve seats and new valves and springs, resulting with theengine starting easily, performing well and displaying good oilpressure. The Dunlop braking system is the same as contemporaryJaguars and Jensen's, so spares are readily available. The brakecalliper bores have been honed and fitted with new seals with thebrake servo also having been rebuilt in recent years. The frontsuspension arms have been overhauled and a new clutch has also beenfitted. To further aid cooling, an oil cooler was also added in2013. Since this time the car has continued to have additionaldetail improvements to keep it in the fine order you see today. Thedark blue coachwork is complimented by the oxblood red interiorwhich is original and has been very well preserved. The attractiveclassic Italian instruments are within a wood finishedbinnacle.A genuine righthand drive UK car from new, it comes with a goodhistory file including early 1960's green log book, instructionmanual, Automobile Club D'Italia production certificate and a validMoT test certificate valid until May 2017, upon which there are noadvisories noted. This Italian masterpiece built by Pininfarina has been known tous for a number of years and we can confidently report that it is adelightful collector's piece which would be a proud addition to anycollectors stable.

The origins of the Corniche came from the continuation of the1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow coupé and 1967 drophead, constructedby the famed coachbuilder Mulliner Park Ward in London.  Thecar was named after the stunning roads along the Côte d'Azur inFrance and was an elegant two door car available with either acoupé or convertible body.  By 1982, the coupé had ceasedproduction but convertibles continued to be built until 1996. Thefirst Rolls-Royce to wear the Corniche name was a 1939 prototypebased on the Bentley Mk. V, although this was never produced due tothe onset of World War II. The car used the standard Rolls-Royce V8engine as fitted to the Silver Shadow and had an aluminium-siliconalloy block and aluminium cylinder heads with cast iron wetcylinder liners. The fuel system was in the form of twin SUcarburettors which were later replaced with Bosch fuel injectionfrom 1980 onwards. This delightful Corniche Convertible by Mulliner Park Ward ispresented in Ivory with a brown hood and matching chestnut leatherinterior. Porsche 911S Targa (2.4 litre)

Lot # 176 (Sale Order: 75 of 136)

The pre-impact bumper 911 Targa 2.4S was made from 1972 to 1973.In 1972, 989 Targa models left the production line all with the oilfiller cap located behind the righthand door. Porsche then movedthe oil tank nearer to the middle of the car for optimum weightdistribution in 1972 only to be forced to move it back in 1973 dueto American customers in particular using it incorrectly as a fuelfiller. No such treatment befell this Italian supplied car. The1972 model is therefore regarded as the perfect handling 911 andthe most desirable. The 2.4 S Targa produced 190bhp at6500rpm  with a compression ratio of 8.5:1 that gave it aprojected top speed of 147mph, nearly equalling the performance ofthe infamous production homologation special, the legendary 1973 RSwhich was based on it.  Only the displacement of 2.4 litresverses 2.7 and a different  cam in the fuel injection pumpseparates the two models mechanically. Most 2.4S cars were fittedwith the more comfortable Koni Sport shock absorbers as this caris. As the 2.7 RS was not made in Targa form, the 2.4S Targa is themost powerful classic long bonnet 911 produced and is nowattracting a solid following.   This superb example benefits from a cosmetic respray in itsoriginal and very popular colour metallic Gemini Blue, it has theoptional Recaro Sports seats and is certified with matchingnumbered engine and gearbox. Having been in private ownership inthe UK since early 2015 and serviced by the main specialists forthese classic Porsche models, this example is supplied fullyserviced and ready to be used by any new owner. Prices of Targa'shave risen steadily because the dynamic of ownership has changed toinvestment cars that can also be enjoyed and having languishedbehind the more aesthetically pleasing coupé, the focus is turningto the much more practical and enjoyable Targa. The 911 2.4S Targais now categorised, understandably, as a true collectors vehiclehelped, no doubt, by the news of the launch of the new Targa modelfrom Porsche that incorporates its early stainless steel roll overhoop design. It won't be long before prices of the 2.4S Targaeclipse those of the coupé so this example represents an shrewdinvestment opportunity.?
