Rolls-Royce Camargue

Lot # 177 (Sale Order: 76 of 136)

With plenty of money at the top of the market in the early1970s, Rolls-Royce decided to try and conquer a little bit more ofit by building a range-topping coupé to slot in above the Cornichein the model range. Using the Silver Shadow underpinnings andenlisting Pininfarina to style them, Rolls-Royce came up with theCamargue - Britain's most expensive car at a launch price of£29,250. Pininfarina ended up styling something reasonably handsomebut also very derivative so there was a resemblance to a Fiat 130coupé and Ferrari GT4 2+2 designs. The 6,750cc, V8 had more powerand torque than the Corniche but, in truth, it didn't feel all thatdifferent to drive which might explain why the Corniche outsold theCamargue. That and, of course, the lofty price tag.Originally registered on 19th October, 1982, this Rolls-Roycehas only had one owner and presents in delightful condition. Theroyal blue paintwork is unmarked and the interior is in time-warpcondition, the grey leather is as new as are the blue Wiltoncarpets. Supplied by H.R.Owen to a prominent middle eastern royalfamily, this Camargue has covered less than 5,000 miles from new.The odometer reading is currently 1,359 miles although this wasrepaired very early on in the cars life. The level of comfort andluxury of this exquisitely designed example is second to none.Supplied with a V5C registration document and a full one year MoTtest certificate, together with the original handbooks, thisRolls-Royce Camargue is surely the lowest mileage example availableworldwide. ?

Lotus Elan S2 Roadster

Lot # 178 (Sale Order: 77 of 136)

Introduced in 1962, the Elan featured a simple but effectivesteel backbone frame and all-independent wishbone suspension whichused a modified Chapman Strut, as developed in Lotus Grand Prixcars, at the rear. Rack-and-pinion steering was sourced from theTriumph Vitesse and there were Girling disc brakes all round. TheElan's engine was a highly modified 1498cc (later 1558cc) FordCortina unit incorporating Lotus's own twin-camshaft cylinder headand both the gearbox and differential came, likewise, from Ford.Introduced in November 1964, the S2 featured numerous detailstyling changes and improved brakes. As one would expect, given itsbackground and specification, the Elan proved to be a highlycapable circuit racer and, capitalising on the numerous successesachieved by privately entered cars, Lotus introduced their ownversion, the '26R', in 1964.This very early Series 2 Elan (sometimes known as a Series 1½)is one of only 15-20 cars built with the Series 1 rear lights -three round lights on either side and pull up windows with a chromebutton. Later, Lotus changed to the Series 2/3 elliptical rearlights with wind up windows making this particular Lotus a veryrare car. It has been the subject to a full ground-up restorationwhich took place 8,000 miles ago. Purchased by the vendor a coupleof years ago, he was not happy with the paint finish so he has hadthe front half taken back to the gel coat and repainted again, hehas also had the mechanical aspect of the restoration gone throughand fully serviced and it is reported to be driving superbly.Finished in iconic Lotus red with original black trim, it has theoriginal body shell, perfect wheel arches and original body panels, doors, bonnet and boot. It also has the original engine, closeratio gearbox, perfect chassis and original chassis plate, seats, instruments, dash board, door handles, gear knob, green and yellowhorn push, steel wheels with Lotus hub caps, cant rails and hoodmechanism. Just before the change of ownership, the car had newfront shock absorbers fitted and a brake rebuild including newfront brake callipers. Supplied with the car is a V5C registrationdocument, an MoT test certificate which expires in July 2017, atonneau cover and hood with its mechanism. A rare, matching numbersLotus which is surely a fast appreciating asset.?

Jaguar E-Type Series II Roadster

Lot # 179 (Sale Order: 78 of 136)

Launched at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, the Jaguar E-Type3.8-Litre was nothing short of a revelation. With its heady blendof supercar performance, breathtaking styling and low price tag,the newcomer left rivals reeling and customers clamoring. Earlysports car racing success at the hands of Graham Hill and RoySalvadori, amongst others, helped cement its reputation. In 1968and due largely to US regulations, the E-Type underwent severaldesign changes and improvements. The new Series II Jaguar E-Typecan be identified by its open headlights without glass covers, awrap-around rear bumper, re-positioned larger front indicators, tail lights below the bumpers, better cooling aided by an enlarged'mouth' with twin electric fans, and up-rated brakes. The engine iseasily identified visually by the change from smooth polished camcovers to a more industrial 'ribbed' appearance. The interior anddashboard were also re-designed, with rocker switches beingsubstituted for toggle switches. Head restraints, a collapsiblesteering column and an all synchromesh gearbox improved safety andcomfort for the occupants. Originally registered on New Year's day 1971 and accompanied by aJaguar Heritage certificate this beautifully presented Series IIroadster offered in Piano black with tan leather interior andcorrect black mohair roof was initially purchased by itsenthusiastic owner to tour Europe early last year. Despite theplans to tour, when the car arrived from the USA in 2015 thedecision was made to spend a little more time on the restoration ofthis example therefore the vendor used his SIII E-Type V12 instead. The touring parties loss was the SII's gain enabling thecar to have a raft of mechanical and cosmetic work which included aleft to right conversion, replacing  Stromburg carburettorswith triple SU carburettors and detailing the engine bay. All ofthis carried out by E-Type specialists Automo of Taplow, Berkshire. We are now told the E-Type is purring and drives extremely well. Ina stunning colour combination that certainly attracts attention, with unmarked chrome work including immaculate chrome wire wheelsand a beautifully detailed engine bay this is a very collectableand realistically priced roadster.?

Ferrari 400GT

Lot # 180 (Sale Order: 79 of 136)

Launched at the 1976 Paris Salon, the 400GT had acquired a4.8-litre version of Ferrari's four-cam, V12 engine but otherwisediffered from its 365GT/4 2+2 predecessor only in detail. The 400GTreaffirmed Ferrari's determination to compete with the world'sfinest luxury sports saloons and was intended to attract the typeof mature yet discerning customer who previously might have optedfor a Bentley or Mercedes-Benz. This latter requirement made theoption of automatic transmission a necessity. The unit chosen was aGeneral Motors' three-speed Hydramatic gearbox, widely regarded asthe world's best, having been used by Cadillac and subsequently byRolls-Royce and Jaguar among others. Flagship of the Maranellorange, Ferrari's splendidly equipped '2+2' featured self-levellingindependent rear suspension, power-assisted steering, electricwindows and optional air-conditioning. Being a Ferrari, the 400GTwas as fast as it was luxurious, boasting a top speed of around150mph. Sadly, the car's biggest potential market, the USA,remained effectively closed to it because of stringent safety andemissions legislation. Even after it received fuel injection, the400GT remained effectively a Europe-only model because of theexpense involved in crash-testing two cars for US safetyassessment. By the time production of the final 412 version ceasedin 1989, Ferrari's finest 2+2 had been in production for aremarkable 17 years, though its exclusivity meant that there wereseldom more than 200 sold in any one year. This righthand drive Ferrari 400GT, one of 137 cars supplied newin the UK, is fitted with the General Motors automatic gearbox andhas only covered 44,500 miles from new. Supplied new by LancasterGarage in Colchester to Mr. D. Wicks who kept the car for the firstsix years until 1984. It then passed through the ownership ofseveral people before being purchased by Martin Hewgill in December1992. The last MoT test in his ownership was in July 1997 with arecorded mileage of 43,928. Shortly after this, he took the car offthe road with the intention to carry out some restoration work, starting with the rear axle. The vendor purchased this 400GT in2015 and the car was delivered to a Ferrari specialist, QV London, still with the rear axle removed. After fitting new wheel bearingsthe rear suspension was reassembled and refitted. Over the next twomonths QV replaced the fuel pumps, spark plugs, ignition points, battery, engine oil, differential oil and stripped down and rebuiltthe six, twin choke Webber carburettors. An MoT test certificatewas issued with the mileage of 44,473, the car then went back intostorage. The car returned to QV in January this year where it wasfully checked through and MoT tested, passing with no advisories. This is supplied with the V5 registration document still registeredto Mr. Hewgill, the MoT test certificate which expires on the 29thJanuary 2018, a file of old MoT test certificates and invoices, aMaranello copy handbook, Ferrari 400 automatic sales brochure, acouple of period magazines featuring Ferrari and parts books forthe mechanical parts, automatic gearbox parts and body parts. Thisis a rare, righthand drive, desirable carburettor model of theFerrari flagship of its time.?

Austin Mini Cooper Mk.1

Lot # 182 (Sale Order: 81 of 136)

In 1959, a new concept in car design was born, designed by AlexIssigonis with a monocoque shell, transversely mounted engine andfront wheel drive, the new 'Mini', as it was commonly known, soonbecame popular across a broad spectrum of the population.  Thepotential for competition use was soon realised by John Cooper and, although Alex Issigonis was less keen, BMC were finally persuadedand worked together with John Cooper culminating in the birth ofthe Austin Mini Cooper and the Morris Mini Cooper in 1961.Victories in the 1964, 1965 and 1967 Monte Carlo Rallies set theMini on the road to fame but probably the greatest publicity wasgained from their (somewhat unfair) disqualification for lightingirregularities in the 1966 event after coming in 1st, 2nd and3rd. First registered 12th August 1965, this original Mk.1 Austin Mini Cooperis in lovely condition throughout and remarkably original. Recentlywhen taken for an MOT, the mechanic indeed complimented the car onits originality, good body and mechanicals, a credit to theprevious ownership. In 2016 this Mk.1 car was subject to an engine rebuild andsuspension upgrade to dry suspension, this included correct Hi / Lokit and a servo was added to improve braking. Invoices totalled£3,700 which can be found in the history file. Other recentmaintenance included a new central exit exhaust system and rebuiltbrake callipers including new pads and new front wheel bearingsattached to the Cooper S reverse rim wheels. Offered with an MoTtest certificate until November 2017 and fully serviced withoverhauled carburettors, new spark plugs and HT leads, this pluckyCooper is a loved and increasingly rare car that is a soundinvestment as well as a fun, useable classic.?

Alfa Romeo Giulia 2000 GT Veloce

Lot # 183 (Sale Order: 82 of 136)

The Giulia 105 series coupé was first shown to the motoringpress on 9th September 1963 at the new Arese works inMilan and was mechanically based on the TI saloon (Berlina). Known as the Sprint GT, later versions were introduced thatincluded the GT Veloce and 1750 GTV.  June 1971 saw thereplacement of the 1750 GTV with the 2000 GT Veloce, the new modelbeing presented at Gardone.  A larger displacement engine of1962cc in the new larger capacity Alfa Romeo saw power and torqueincreases over its predecessor resulting in a recorded 132bhp and atop speed of more than 120mph. The greater low speed torque andlarger flexibility at higher revs is a feature of this two litreengine.  Externally, other than badging, a new horizontalfront grill incorporated the Alfa Romeo shield and rear light unitswere enlarged.  The interior trim was revised and theinstruments were grouped into one cluster to enable easier andquicker scanning of the instruments.  Production ceased in1976. We are delighted to offer, what is in our opinion, a ratherspecial and well known Alfa Romeo 2000 GT Veloce. A letter fromMarco Fazio, Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo, residing within thelarge history file, confirms that this 2000 GT Veloce wasmanufactured on 4th June, 1973 and sold to Alfa RomeoUK, London on 5th June, 1973. Offered with the coachworkfinished in the correct Alfa Romeo Hawthorn White (Biancospino)with a contrasting anthracite leather cloth interior, the AlfaRomeo displays excellent panel gaps throughout, an importantindicator as to the structural integrity of this motorcar. A largehistory file contains old MoT test certificates, variouscorrespondences, invoices, DVLA SORN records and includes a servicebook with records up until 1977. There is also a statement at therear of the service book stating that the Alfa Romeo had the faultyodometer replaced at 38,300 miles on 1st October 1979.With the odometer now reading 37,300 miles and records within thehistory file, we may suggest the true mileage is 75,600 miles atthe time of writing.  The interior is in good order and, ofparticular note, are the carpets that are the original factorysupplied ribbed items and are no longer available. Mechanically, anAlfaholics suspension handling kit is fitted and includes Bilsteinshock absorbers and an invoice for a Dell'Orto service kitindicates overhauled carburettors. On a recent test drive, the GTVeloce drove very well with no bangs rattles or squeaks, in fact, our tester, an Alfa Romeo enthusiast and collector himself, statedthat it drives as a new car. A UK V5 registration document and anMoT test certificate, valid until September 2017 with noadvisories, accompany the Alfa Romeo along with a spare set ofkeys. At a time when righthand drive examples are predominatelyarriving into the UK from South Africa, it is refreshing to find, not only a UK market-supplied righthand drive Alfa Romeo built withthe Italian featured interiors but also one that is in such fineorder throughout. We feel that with this quality in a 105 SeriesGiulia Coupé, it can truly be enjoyed as designed and will becomeremarkable value.

Renault Avantime Dynamique

Lot # 186 (Sale Order: 85 of 136)

Renault's 2+2 Coupe GT MPV concept wowed the crowds as well asthe motoring press when revealed as a styling exercise at the ParisMotor Show in 1998. So much so that the concept was boldly takeninto production largely unchanged. With design 'ahead of its time'the Avantime this flagship was packed full of luxuries, safetyfeatures and advanced engineering. Highlights included uniquedouble-hinged 'kinematic' pillarless doors allowing easy access tothe front and rear seats, the world's largest opening glass sunroofat the time featuring strengthened heat-reflecting tinted glass, theatre seating (rear positioned higher than the front) and a'grand air' button which simultaneously opens all pillarlesswindows and sunroof at the press of one switch. At close of play, only 4,557 Avantime's were built. BBC's TopGear positioned the Renault Avantime at 'Sub Zero' on the 'CoolWall' stating it was cooler even than the Aston Martin Vanquish and"the coolest car money can buy". Despite this just 450 cars sold inthe UK.This 2003 2.0 litre Turbo Dynamique was specified in Iliade Bluewith silver aluminium roof rails contrasted with black half-leatherinterior. First Registered to 'Renault UK Limited' like most were,Renault Croydon sold this example to its current registered keeperin 2006. Receipts in the history file show several thousands ofpounds spent on general maintenance and upkeep across the yearswith Renault specialist Paul Sage of Alpine Autos, London and todaythe car has covered a meagre 69,700 miles.  The six-speedgearbox makes for frugal cruising while the turbo gives the carnimble performance despite its size and all in all a bright andvery rewarding driving experience. When you overlay the GT flareand performance with such limited production numbers, we believethat the Avantime possesses all of the hallmarks forcollectability, future investment and thoroughly enjoyable classicownership.

Triumph TR3A

Lot # 187 (Sale Order: 86 of 136)

With only 1,286 cars produced for the home market during 1955and 1957 by Standard-Triumph, according to the TR Register as of2002, there remain only 893 registered TR3/3A's on UK roads. Although it was usually supplied as an open two-seater, anoccasional rear seat and bolt on steel hard top were available asextras. The four-speed manual transmission could be supplemented byan overdrive unit on the top three ratios, electrically operatedand controlled by a switch on the dash. In 1956, the front brakeschanged from drum to disc, becoming the first British seriesproduction car to be so fitted.  Because of these disc brakes, the TR3 and subsequent TR3A's became known for their superiorbraking ability, making it an autocross favourite.  Updatesalso included new wide front grill, exterior door handles, lockableboot handle and a full tool kit as standard, although the TR3A'sstill retained the 1991cc engine. With precious little body-work to speak of, it is of littlesurprise that these quickly became a formidable competitor on therally circuit, racing successfully in such events as the RAC, MonteCarlo, Liège-Rome-Liège and the Coupe des Alpes rallies. Thisstriking example has benefitted from a full strip down andrestoration, not by a regular mechanic, but by a gentleman whounderstands rallying, an experienced hand and someone with somesuccess to his name.  Imported originally from the USA as aroad car and after a full bare-metal restoration, additional worksbegan including the instillation of electronic timers, roll-cage,bucket seats, competition seat-belts and a fire-extinguisher. Avital additional extra was a Helphos suction rally lamp, anyone whohas tried to read a road sign in the dark will appreciate howuseful this is. This has been well campaigned, used successfully onthe modern-day Liège-Rome-Liège and the 2016 Vintage Sun Run andrepresents a well-prepared and 'turn-key' rally car, whether youare hustling to the front of the grid or enjoying a pleasant lunchalong the way.

AC 378 GT Zagato Prototype (Pre-production Geneva Motor Show)

Lot # 193 (Sale Order: 92 of 136)

Under a new management team at AC Cars, chaired by the veryBritish-Sounding General, Sir Jeremy Mackenzie, former DeputySupreme Allied Command NATO Europe, Aide de Camp General to HM TheQueen, dedicated AC enthusiast and armed with a plan to switch someproduction to the same factory in South Africa which made LeeNoble's cars, AC marched into the 2012 Geneva motor show with highhopes for renewed brand success. "Geneva 2012 marks a new beginningfor the AC brand", said Mackenzie, "The company has suffered from aseries of false starts in recent years but at the root of those hasalways been the lack of a proper manufacturing base. Now that ithas entered into joint ventures with manufacturing entities withstrong track records in producing cars which share the iconic ACpedigree, all that is firmly in the past". In time for the year's most eagerly awaited Motor show, theBritish sports car specialist teamed up with fabled Italiancoachbuilder, Zagato, to create the all new AC 378 GT Zagato. AChad an on-off relationship for much of the past decade, withproduction switched abroad, management changes and a confusingproduct line-up. However, under the new management, the hopes wereto make a go of AC Cars, one of the world's oldest car brands, beginning with a supercar to be sold in the UK and Germany where itwould retail for €109,990. The only problem was that the AC 378 GTZagato didn't arrive in time at Palexpo for press day after analtercation with Customs. The svelte new coupé packs a punch with aGeneral Motors 6.2-litre, V8 under the bonnet and tuned to 434bhp.It was indeed previewed at Perana in 2009 and It's not the firsttime AC Cars has looked to Italy for design inspiration: the AC AceBristol Zagato of the 1950s and AC Frua of the 1960s were bothpenned by the Italian carrozzeria. Under the new management, ACplanned further developments with Zagato, including a limited runof AC Ace Bristol Zagatosand and the reintroduction of the AC AceClassic, a kind of junior Cobra to be sold for less than £50,000 inthe UK. This example, the pre-production prototype Geneva 2012 show car, which was famously late for its unveiling having been held atcustoms, has been owned and cared for since by Brooklands MotorCompany and AC Heritage, a custodian of the old AC workshops at theBrooklands Motor Museum, AC Specialists and its spiritual home.Having been used sparingly at shows and press-calls, the AC 378 GTZagato is presented as it was on the AC stands in 2012. A trulyunique example steeped in British motoring history despite being atruly modern supercar, this example presented in metallic blue withcontrasting grey/black interior coupled with a 6.2 litre, V8 is afully registered roadworthy example and can be seen gracing theroad and track at the Double Twelve motor show 2015 on You Tube.Subject to much media hype, Zagato designed a true one-off and rareexample. Lot # 195 (Sale Order: 94 of 136)

Introduced at the October 1988 Birmingham Motor Show to almostuniversal acclaim, the Virage was the first new Aston Martin foreighteen years. A satisfying blend of muscularity andunderstatement, its sleek aluminium silhouette was the work of JohnHefferman and Ken Greenley. Based around a modified version of itsLagonda sibling's sheet-steel platform chassis, the newcomerbenefited from revised wishbone independent front suspension, alightened de Dion rear axle, four-wheel disc brakes andpower-assisted rack and pinion steering. Suitably reworked byCallaway Engineering of Connecticut, USA (using 'four-valve'cylinder heads, hydraulic tappets and Weber electronic fuelinjection), its 5340cc, 'quad-cam' V8 engine not only satisfiedforthcoming emissions legislation but also developed some 330bhpand 350lbft of torque, allied to a choice of either four-speedautomatic or five-speed manual transmissions. This Aston Martin was originally registered on 21st January,1994 and is a one owner vehicle from new. Ferrari Mondial QV Convertible

Lot # 197 (Sale Order: 95 of 136)

The Ferrari Mondial, the name reminiscent of the 500 Mondialrace cars from the 1950s, was a replacement model for the Ferrari308 GT4. The Mondial was the first Ferrari where the entireengine/gearbox/rear suspension assembly was mounted on a detachablesteel sub frame making engine removal for a major rebuild orcylinder head removal much easier than it was on previous models. The steel coachwork was taken care of by Carrozzeria Scaglietti andbuilt over a lightweight steel box section space frame. The firstMondial engine, although a DOHC design, used just two valves percylinder. Austin Mini Cooper S Mk. I

Lot # 198 (Sale Order: 96 of 136)

The Mini was manufactured by the British Motor Corporation (BMC)and its successors from 1959 until 2001. The original is considereda British icon of the 1960's and its space-saving front-wheel drivelayout allowing 80% of the car's floorpan to be used for passengersand luggage, influenced a generation of car makers. In 1999, theMini was voted the second most influential car of the 20th centurybehind the Ford Model T. Initially, Minis were marketed under theAustin and Morris names until Mini became a marque in its own rightin 1969. Introduced in February 1964, the 1275 Mini Cooper S, withits torquey engine, has long been seen as the ultimate 'S' and iscurrently still the most sought after version for most buyers andowners. Visually the same as the 1071cc 'S', the 1275cc was fittedwith hydrolastic suspension along with the rest of the Mini rangein late 1964. From early 1966, the extra fuel tank and oil coolerbecame standard items. The 1275cc 'S' then remained in productionpretty much unchanged until September 1967 when the Mk. II versionwas launched.Originally delivered on 19th July 1964, this Mk. I version waspurchased by the previous owner in the late 90's in need ofrestoration. This owner had the car until the spring of 2005 when, begrudgingly, he sold it to its current owner, a Mini racer andenthusiast, as an ongoing restoration project. Over the next eightyears, a full nut and bolt restoration took place. The shell wasstripped and re-painted in the original Old English White byclassic specialists; photos in various stages of the process can befound in the history file showing both the condition of theoriginal shell and the extent of the workmanship. Engine, gearbox, drive train and suspension have all been rebuilt, overhauling theoriginal components where possible. It now represents a stunning example; many have been raced andrallied but this is as near to original as possible and has seen nosuch action. Since finishing the restoration, the vendor has onlyused the Mini for some 925 miles.  Fully serviced andcompleted with an MoT test certificate until August 2017, a BritishMotor Industry Heritage Trust certificate and an original greenbuff logbook, we are informed this Mini drives particularlywell;  having been involved with Mini's since the 70's ourvendor should be a good judge. With correct Cooper S's increasingly hard to find in suchstandard specification and with this example in this condition, itis a rare find. As collectable as their period Ferrari cousins, theCooper S is a 'must have' in any seriouscollection.?

Ferrari 400i

Lot # 200 (Sale Order: 98 of 136)

Pininfarina was the genius behind this front-enginedmasterpiece. The design was derived from the almost identicallooking 365 GT4 2+2 (which itself was based on the famous Daytona).Production began in 1976, when Ferrari revealed its first carfitted with an automatic transmission, the 400, at the Paris Motorshow of 1976. The GT version however took advantage of a five-speedall synchromesh transmission. Although the incorporation of anautomatic transmission, and U.S. emissions compliance, indicate itmay have been designed for the Americans market, no version of the400 series was ever officially imported to the USA. Despite this, many have been brought to America as grey imports where the carenjoyed a limited popularity with movie stars such as Sammy DavisJr. The interior was lavishly appointed with rich leather, finewood and higher end carpet. The injection version followed withBosch K-Jetronic under the bonnet. Today, its sleekPininfarina-designed lines and relatively limited productionnumbers certainly give it classic status. Originally registered on 25th May 1984, this Ferrari has only hadsix keepers in its 32 years on the road. Purchased by the currentowner in 2012, this Ferrari is without doubt a beautiful car andone that has been well looked after. The metallic GrigioSilverstone paintwork is in a very good standard and finish; thecream/buttermilk soft leather trim has a delightful patina andcould be described as very good. The vendor has ensured thisFerrari is properly stored when not in use and, after many years inhis possession, has decided the time had come for this 400i to finda new home. Supplied with a leather bound file which includesFerrari handbooks, the history file of this 400i comes with a V5Cregistration document, a full years' MoT test certificate andnumerous invoices from Maranello and others. NVS Hypercars haverecently carried out a circa £2,000 service which included a newMSD ignition. In recent years, the 400 series Ferrari's haveincreased in value as the market has come to realise what anunderrated car the Ferrari 400i is.?

Ferrari 365 GTB4 Daytona Spider

Lot # 201 (Sale Order: 99 of 136)

Introduced in 1964, the 275 GTB foreshadowed the end ofFerrari's dual-purpose berlinettas. The 275 GTB, and its laterfour-cam evolution, were effective in competition but were clearlydesigned and built with more emphasis on luxury and touring. Itsdesign and construction paralleled Ferrari's even larger 330GTs, inboth engine size and physical dimensions. Ferrari embarked upon areplacement for the 275 GTB almost immediately after it went intoproduction and took advantage of its front-engined history and thelegendary stature of its cars to create one, last front engined,V12-powered, two-seat berlinetta, the 365 GTB/4 Daytona. Based on the all-independent suspension 330 GTC chassis layout andcontinuing Ferrari's heritage of long hood fastback designs,Pininfarina's design for the Daytona was dramatically different.Covered headlights, behind a Plexiglas nose panel in the firstEuropean models but later with pop up headlights, were immediatelyapparent. The Daytona looked fast, serious and predatory evensitting still. It backed up its appearance with 175mph performanceand quarter mile times in the thirteen's. Its character also lent itself to conversion to a lightweight, high performance spider, a market which the legendary 275 NARTSpider had addressed and the Ferrari's 330 GTS did not fullysatisfy. Scaglietti went on to produce a very limited offactory-built Daytona Spiders. In addition to a folding top, the Spiders required different, stronger, windshield frames and complete new rear decks withconventional trunk lids. The bodies and frames were strengthened tomake up for the substantial rigidity which theDaytona berlinetta's original fastback roof contributedto the Daytona's structure. The Daytona Spiders' popularity has grown exponentially sinceproduction ended in 1973 and many berlinettas have beendecapitated by shops both competent and casual in attempts toduplicate the style and flair of the Daytona Spider. It is oflittle surprise then, that a number of specialist coachbuildersbegan to produce accurate renditions, in limited numbers, of thismost prized of convertibles. The Ferrari 365 Daytona Spider by Southern Roadcraft is, withoutquestion, one of the most accurate replicas of the marque.Dimensions are exact and allow genuine Ferrari parts to be used ifrequired although most used Jaguar V12 engines and running gear; avery rare few used a genuine Ferrari as the donor vehicle. SouthernRoadcraft was created by brothers Ian and Brian Nichols in 1984.They saw a niche for high quality replica motorcars availablewithin a realistic price range. Together with their team ofcraftsmen, they built an enviable reputation for superior productsbased on finer engineering, ease of assembly and outstanding valuefor money. Initial success came from the quality of their Cobrareplica but the Daytona soon followed as, back in the booming1980's, the prices of classic Ferrari's were soaring and Crocketand Tubbs in Miami Vice brought the gorgeous Daytona to theattention of millions. This rare righthand drive example is one of the very rareDaytona Spiders by Southern Roadcraft which is based and registeredas a 1974 Ferrari 365 Coupé, keeping the original matching chassisand engine numbers with a manual gearbox. Close inspection revealsthat it is a near-exact copy of the original 365 GTB/4 DaytonaSpider using the wheels, lights and instruments from a donorFerrari 365. Believed to have been built in the 1980's, thisDaytona Spider is in superb condition throughout having onlycompleted a very limited mileage since its construction. Finishedin Sera blue with light blue leather interior, it is supplied witha V5C registration document, importantly describing it as a Ferrari365 and a MoT test certificate which expires in March 2018.It has undergone a full service in March 2015 and storedcorrectly since. The works included Valvoline Race engine oil andShell transaxle oil, filters, gaskets and brake fluids. A batterycut-out has also been installed and, where once a badly fittedexhaust was situated, a new stainless steel, Daytona-type examplehas been fabricated and installed, all by QV London. Later, in2016, new shock-absorbers and springs were fitted along with acarburettor re-tune by Porsche specialists, Woodward Motors. With the original 1970's Ferrari Daytona Spider having a valuein the millions of pounds, this Daytona Spider recreation looks, sounds and drives superbly. It is a Ferrari, not only in name, butin styling and detail.

Ferrari 512BBi

Lot # 202 (Sale Order: 100 of 136)

The first 'Boxer' was the 365 GT4BB shown at the 1971 TurinMotor Show. Designed to rival the Lamborghini Miura, it was finallyreleased for sale in 1973 at the Paris Motor Show. 387 exampleswere built with 88 in righthand drive (of which 58 were destinedfor the UK market) making it the rarest of all Berlinetta Boxers.Though it shared its numerical designation with the Daytona, theBoxer was radically different. It was a mid-engined car like theDino and the now flat-12 engine was mounted longitudinally ratherthan transversely. The engine shared its internal dimensions withthe V12 from the Daytona but was spread out to 180° as on Ferrari's1970 Formula One car and was mounted above a five-speed manualtransmission. The 365 was updated to the 512 in 1976, resurrecting the name ofthe earlier Ferrari 512 racer. The engine was larger at 4942cc andhad an increased compression ratio of 9.2:1, a new dual plateclutch to handle the added power and ease pedal effort. Dry sumplubrication was used to prevent oil starvation in hard corneringdue to revised rear suspension and wider rear tires. Externaldifferentiators included a new front spoiler, wider rear tyres;added NACA side air vents ducting air to the brakes and four taillights instead of six. Only 929 examples were made of the BB beforethe Bosch fuel injected BB512i was introduced in 1981. This fuel-injection model, one of just 1,007, manufactured in1982, was finished in its original colour scheme of Rosso Corsawith black sills with a matching cream leather interior. Alate-model example, this European 'single-mirror' was sold firstlyto Francorchamps/Belgium and then went to Colorado in the UnitedStates before selling into a private collection in Switzerland in1986.  The current owner acquired RKU 80X in 2014, some 28years later and has used it little since. There is a file ofinvoices accompanying this classic Ferrari and it reportedly had acambelt change in 2014 and then £15,000 worth of engine workundertaken by Ferrari specialists, GTO Engineering in Reading. Thissuper low mileage example comes with its original matching numbersengine and gearbox and shows in startlingly original condition.Incredibly, it still has the factory plastic covering in thedoor-sills and the interior is unmarked. Supplied with its originalhandbooks, tool-roll and MoT test certificate valid until February2018, these flat-12 Ferrari are real drivers cars and respondfabulously to a firm hand.
