Jaguar Mk. IV Saloon (3.5 Litre)

Lot # 203 (Sale Order: 101 of 136)

First registered to Jaguar Cars Ltd (Arthur Whittaker)Lovely leather and walnut interior (originally ordered in with pigskin leather) Wonderful and complete tool kitLarge history file plus the often missing cigarette lighter present. We are delighted to offer this, matching numbers, 1948 Jaguar Mk. IV 3.5 Litre Saloon that, not only is presented in excellent order throughout, but also was first registered to one of Jaguar's most important employees, therefore, it sits as asignificant motor car in Jaguar's history. Within the large historyfile, resides the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Production Record Certificate, confirming that this Jaguar was manufactured on22nd December 1948 and dispatched on 14thJanuary 1949. The first recorded owner was Jaguar Cars Ltd (ArthurWhittaker); Mr Arthur Whittaker being at that time, the DeputyChairman of Jaguar Cars Ltd. Whittaker, a former apprentice at theImperial Garage, Blackpool, joined Swallow Sidecars as a salesmanwhen he was just 17 years of age (Swallow Side Cars being the firstcompany that William Lyons started with William Walmsley before itbecame SS Cars Ltd. and later Jaguar Cars ltd.) He eventuallybecame the chief assistant to William Lyons and proved to be moreoutstanding in business than in sales and stayed with Jaguar forsome 50 years becoming one of Jaguar's mainstay businessmen and adirector on the board. At the time that this fine Mk. IV wasproduced, it is likely that the car was ordered with some specialfeatures. What we do know is that it left the factory with itscoachwork in black and its specially ordered pigskin leatherinterior. It was also registered with a Coventry (VC) number plate. An extensive restoration of GVC 321 began in 1982 by Mr. DavidPriest who paid meticulous attention to every detail as may be seenby the drawings, within the history file, that were created toenable parts to be re-manufactured to the original specifications.Sadly, ill health resulted in the restoration being completed bythe marque specialists, David Davenport, some 22 years later.  Today, the Jaguar may be described as in near concoursecondition; the restoration having kept the car as close as possibleto the original specifications. The coachwork presents very welland is complemented by the extensive chrome trim and fittings. Asunroof operates and, we are informed, does not leak in inclementweather conditions. Mechanically, the Jaguar operates as it should, the engine starting and running smoothly. However, a sensibleaddition is a discreetly installed Kenlow fan to add extraprotection to the cooling system if required. An original styledbattery provides the electrics whilst the car sits upon a nearlynew set of Blockley tyres. On the inside, the leather interior isbeautifully soft and subtle, all having been replaced duringrestoration apart from the rear seat back that still retains theoriginal pigskin covering. The extensive burr walnut wood dashboardand trimmings are all in excellent condition. The rare cigarettelighter is present but the highlight of this Jaguar must be itscomplete and impeccable tool kit stored within the boot; it is oneof the best we have seen.  The previously mentioned historyfile is extensive and includes a genuine Jaguar service manual andinstruction book, a Continuation, old style, green log book, drawings, photographs during restoration and a hand writtennotebook recording works carried out by the current owner whopurchased it in June 2009. Most recent works include a new startermotor solenoid, lubricated grease points, oils and filter checkedand brakes inspected. This UK registered Jaguar Mk. IV, althoughMoT exempt, has a current MoT test certificate valid untilSeptember 2017.   Taking into consideration the condition and history ofthis Jaguar, we believe it to be one of the finest in existence, abold statement perhaps, but one that stands scrutiny uponinspection.

Jaguar Mk. X (3.8 litre) Ex-Sir William Lyons

Lot # 204 (Sale Order: 102 of 136)

The Jaguar Mk. X was the top of the range saloon car builtby the British manufacturer primarily aimed at the United Statesmarket. The unitary construction body-shell was codenamed 'Zenith'during development and this floor pan continued in production longafter Mk. X production ended, as the DS420 Limousine. Theinterior was the last Jaguar with abundant standard woodwork, including the dashboard, escutcheons, window trim, a pair of largebookmatched fold-out rear picnic tables and a front seat pull-outpicnic table stowed beneath the instrument cluster. Later, airconditioning and a sound-proof glass division between the front andrear seats were available as options. The Mk. X was the firstJaguar saloon to feature independent rear suspension and differedfrom earlier large Jaguar saloons in having 14" wheels instead ofthe more common 15". The front suspension used double wishboneswith coil springs and telescopic dampers. The car initiallyfeatured a 3,781cc version of Jaguar's XK in-line, six-cylinderengine. For the London Motor Show in October 1964, the enlarged4,235cc unit took over although the 3.8-litre unit could still bespecified until October 1965. Many domestic market cars and almostall cars destined for the important North American markets left thefactory with a Borg Warner automatic gearbox. Stopping power forthis heavy car came from servo assisted disc-brakes on all fourwheels; power assisted steering was standard.Manufactured in December 1961, this Jaguar Mk. X wasbuilt specifically for and to the exact requirements of SirWilliam Lyons, the then Managing Director of Jaguar Cars anddelivered to him in January 1962. He used the car on a regularbasis for three years with Lady Lyons, often being chauffeur-drivento meetings and social events. With such a highly esteemed enduser, this Jaguar was built to a very high standard with the uniquefeatures at the time of electric windows to the rear as well as thefront, vanity mirrors fitted discreetly to the picnic tables andair conditioning- a rare feature at the time. This example was oneof the very first 'Zenith' cars to be manufactured and is finishedin the original colour combination of Opalescent Dark Green with aBeige leather interior and still bears its original Coventry numberplate - 7868 RW. Having been professionally restored over a twoyear period, with receipts for tens of thousands on file fromrenown Jaguar specialists, including Jaguar Heritage and as suchshe presents in excellent condition. The rebuilt engine ranbeautifully during our demonstration, with excellent oil pressureand no adverse noises. Bodily it is hard to imagine a betterexample than this and the evocative curves of such a large car aredelightful with uniform panel gaps and an excellent paint finish.Open the door and you are welcomed to a magnificent interior withspace, wood and leather in plentiful supply; a genuine luxury carof the period. It comes supplied with a heritage certificate, a V5Cregistration document, together with a current MoT test certificateand a history folder.  It is rare to see a Jaguar Mk. 10 thesedays; to find one in this condition and with such historical value, having been used by Sir William Lyons himself, is virtuallyimpossible. The painstaking restoration of what is asignificant piece of motoring heritage, owned by Mr. Jaguar, hasbeen recognised and featured in the February (issue 166) of Octanemagazine as well as the marque specialist Jaguar World magazine(February issue).

The Jaguar XK120 was manufactured between 1948 and 1954 and wastheir first sports car since the SS100 which ceased production in1940. It was launched in roadster form at the 1948 London MotorShow as a show car for the new Jaguar XK engine. It caused asensation thus persuading Jaguar-founder and design boss WilliamLyons to put the car into production. The '120' in its namereferred to its top speed which made the XK120 the world's fasteststandard production car at the time of its launch. In 2011, it was brought back tothe UK and registered with the DVLA; a V5C registration documentand current MoT test certificate are supplied in the history file.Although a relatively sound and original example when she arrivedhere, the vendor has undertaken a total 'body off' restoration aswell as incorporating a number of significant improvements. Rover Mini Cooper Sport 500

Lot # 210 (Sale Order: 108 of 136)

To celebrate the final chapter of the classic shaped Mini thatbegan life in 1959, a limited edition of 500 cars were produced andnamed the Rover Mini Cooper Sport 500. The classic Mini shape wasretained but had the additional benefits of more modern mechanicsand trim details. The best quality hides were used within theinterior; the alloy dashboard, window winders and door handles wereall a tribute to John Cooper. All of these last 500 cars werefinished with Platinum silver roofs and stripes; every new owneralso received a special gift with the purchase of the car. The mostimportant item, however, is the certificate stating the car is agenuine Cooper Sport 500 which also bears the chassis number andthe signatures of John Cooper and Kevin Howe, the chief executiveof the MG Rover Group. There is little doubt that the once-humble Mini has developedinto something of a collector's item, especially the morespecialist and limited edition versions. After the success sale ofthe Wood & Pickett collection last year and previous CooperSport 500s, it is unsurprising that we have been asked to present, what is arguably, the finest and most collectible example of all. With just 500 examples built and #1 recorded as written off, thismakes 188178 the earliest Cooper Sport 500 in existence. The firstowner was Rover itself, forming part of its fleet stock andregistered to an employee in Birmingham, just around the cornerfrom its birthplace at Longbridge. The second and current owner haskept this near-perfect example in a heated garage amongst his othertreasures. Upon inspection, the writer could find no fault with theexterior paintwork or interior finish. The paperwork is up to date, complete with certificate of authenticity and there is even theoriginal dealership advertising document and cherished numberplate, 'X500 COO'. It currently holds an MoT test certificate validuntil September 2017 and the original gift pack. An opportunity toacquire one of the last proper Minis is unusual, but the earliest, best and most unused, is priceless.

Ford Cortina Mk. I 1500 GT

Lot # 211 (Sale Order: 109 of 136)

The Cortina was Ford's mass-market compact car and soldextremely well. It was produced in five generations; the Mk. Ithrough to the Mk. V, although officially the last one was calledthe Cortina 80. With variants of the Cortina reaching sales of overone million, each successive model proved more popular than itspredecessor.  Such was its fame in the UK, that the BBC Twodocumentary series Arena once devoted an entire programme to thecar and its enthusiasts. In response to the huge success of theMini, Ford responded not with a small car but with a larger familyoffering which they could sell in large numbers. The result was theCortina; a distinctively styled car aimed at buyers of the MorrisOxford and Vauxhall Victor, launched on 20th September 1962. This example is very straight with good panel gaps and sitsproudly on a set of Lotus Cortina steel wheels complementing theaesthetics. Inspection of the engine bay reveals the qualitycontinues especially with the excellent suspension turret tops; awell known weak point on the Cortina model. The chassis plateconfirms this Cortina was originally supplied as a righthand drive,1498 GT model with remote gear change, standard axle and blacktrim. The vendor has made some important improvements on the car, including fitting an electronic fuel pump and pressure regulator,an electric cooling fan, an alternator and a brake servo, resultingin a very useable and immensely stylish 1960's classic Ford. Thedashboard of this Cortina sports the GT auxiliary instruments, revcounter and odometer. Land Rover Defender 110 Td5

Lot # 214 (Sale Order: 111 of 136)

The Land Rover Defender was launched in 1948 and, incredibly, production only finished in January 2016 after a continuous run of67 years. Outwardly, there is little to distinguish the post-1983vehicles from the Series III Land Rover. Internally, coil springsoffered a more comfortable ride and a permanent four-wheel drivesystem derived from the Range Rover featuring a two-speed transfergearbox with a lockable centre differential. A modernised interiorand a new series of progressively more powerful and modern enginecharacterised things under the skin. The Tdi engine finally allowedthe Defender to cruise comfortably at high speeds, as well as towheavy loads speedily on hills while still being economical. In1998, the Defender was fitted with an all-new 2.5-litre,five-cylinder in-line turbo/diesel engine, badged the Td5.This example represents one of the many variants of bodyconfiguration, that of the hardtop. That is to say, a rigid-sided,long-wheelbase model. There is much to commend this fine example;it has one owner from new and has been fully restored over the last18 months. It benefits from a new body with panel seals, is freshlypainted and has a reconditioned engine fitted. This has newinjectors and is fully serviced. The underside is undersealed andthe rear suspension and brakes have been replaced. The under-dashwiring has been replaced and, in total, over £8,000 has been spentin parts alone. Offered in excellent condition throughout, thisversatile Land Rover is offered at no reserve.
The Land Rover Defender was launched in 1948 and, incredibly, production only finished in January 2016 after a continuous run of67 years. Outwardly, there is little to dis...moretinguish the post-1983vehicles from the Series III Land Rover. TVR Chimaera (4.0 litre)

Lot # 215 (Sale Order: 112 of 136)

TVR was an independent British manufacturer of sports cars anduntil 2006 was based in the seaside town of Blackpool. The companymanufactured lightweight sports cars with powerful engines and was,at one stage, the third largest specialised sports car manufacturerin the world offering a diverse range of coupés and convertibles.TVR's are composed of tubular steel frames, cloaked in fibreglassbodywork. The two arms of the company were TVR Engineering, whichmanufactured sports cars, and TVR Power, their powertrain division. The company has, regrettably, had a turbulent recent history andhad not made any new cars since 2006. In July 2012, owner NikolaySmolensky announced that, despite analysing various potential plansto create a new car, building a new TVR model was not going to befinancially viable - despite promising to do so when buying thecompany - and thus TVR's existence as a car manufacturer wasbrought to an end. The Chimera was intended to be the long distancetourer of the range and as such was longer, more spacious and hadslightly softer suspension than its sister car. Originally registered on 17th September 1999 this TVR is finishedin the desirable colour combination of Starmist blue with magnoliainterior.  Superb service history accompanies this TVR withnine services having been carried out by TVR agents andspecialists. The Chimaera was regarded as the most reliable of theTVR range, being less stressed and offering a little more comfortand legroom than the other models available at the time. The 3952ccV8 engine of this TVR sounds delightful and performance-as alwayswith this marque can only be described as breathtaking, is thereany other car that offers as much excitement as a TVR to drive. Inexceptional condition this very low mileage TVR is offered for salewith a V5C registration document and a current MoT testcertificate, together with the original service books and sparekeys.?

Range Rover Classic TD (Suffix-A styling)

Lot # 216 (Sale Order: 113 of 136)

The first generation Range Rover wasproduced between 1970 and 1996 although the original car was notdesigned as a luxury-type 4x4; while certainly up-market comparedto preceding Land Rover models, the early Range Rovers had fairlybasic, utilitarian interiors with vinyl seats and plasticdashboards designed to be washed down with a hose.  Featuressuch as power assisted steering, carpeted floors, air conditioning,cloth/leather seats and wooden interior trim were fitted later. TheRange Rover was a body-on-frame design with a box section laddertype chassis similar to contemporary Land Rovers. The Range Roverutilised coil springs as opposed to leaf springs, permanentfour-wheel drive and four-wheel disc brakes and was originallypowered by the Rover V8 engine.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       This lefthand drive, two-door Range Roverwas originally used in Madrid and was repatriated to the UK in2015. The vendor quickly realised this was a Range Rover that hadbeen very well cared for with no signs of corrosion. The 2393ccdiesel engine is a very strong unit and, when mated to a manualgearbox such as this Range Rover, it becomes a pleasure to drive.Mechanically, this is a very well sorted example with no knownfaults. However, the beauty in G252 RSO is in the styling. Thevendor had the car re-sprayed in Shire Blue but prior to doingso, changed the appearance to make the car looklike 'Suffix-A' example. The bumpers front and rear have beenpainted in silver and a vertical aluminium grille and headlampsurrounds fitted. The car has been completely re-badged to suffix-Aspecification giving the car a retro look of the 70's yetreliability of a much later car. Supplied with a V5C registrationdocument and a current MoT test certificate, together with a goodhistory folder confirming the low mileage, this is a Range Roverthat needs to be viewed to be fully appreciated.?

Morris Minor Van (six cwt)

Lot # 117 (Sale Order: 114 of 136)

Closed van and open flat-bed ('pick-up') versions of the Minorwere built from 1953 until the end of production. They weredesigned for commercial use with small businesses, although manywere also used by larger corporations. Van versions were popularwith the General Post Office, the early versions of these (toaround 1956) having rubber front wings to cope with the sometimesunforgiving busy situations in which they were expected to work. Both the van and the pickup differed from the monocoqueconstruction of the saloon and Traveller variants by having aseparate chassis. They also differed in details such as telescopicrear dampers, stiffer rear leaf springs and lower-ratiodifferentials to cope with heavier loads. The commercials versions were initially marketed as the MorrisQuarter Ton Van and Pick-up. The names Morris 6cwt Van and Pickupwere used following the introduction of the 1098cc engine in1962.First registered on 20th April, 1970, this van was used inFowey, Cornwall for a family-run artist studio from new until 2002when it was retired from service. What was then the Morris centrein the Southwest purchased it and it was dry stored until last yearwhen a full restoration started. The restoration included arefurbished chassis, new braking system, suspension and tyres. Theengine was rebuilt with an unleaded cylinder head, new wiring loom,an alternator conversion as well as a disc brake conversion and aservo fitted making braking more controlled and ultimately morepractical and usable. Although showing two owners on the V5, it hasonly ever been used by the purchaser in Fowey on the road. We areinformed the mileage of 45,615 is warranted as genuine. Having beenrestored sympathetically to look correct and useable to drive, thischarming example comes with a fresh MoT test certificate and withperiod sign writing would make an ideal vehicle for a smallbusiness.

Renault Sport Clio V6 255 Phase 2

Lot # 219 (Sale Order: 117 of 136)

At the time of its launch in 2003, the upgraded Phase 2 Clio V6,3 litre was the most powerful serial produced hot hatchback in theworld with 255bhp. Based upon the Phase 1 engine, its extraperformance was helped with assistance from Porsche. Although basedon a utilitarian hatchback, the Clio V6 is not a practical familycar. The loss of the back seats and most of the boot space, due tothe engine placement, results in a severe restriction in luggagespace - there is only a small space in the front where the engineused to be, suitable for a holdall or weekend groceries, a smallnetted area behind the seats plus a small stash area under thebootlid. The Clio V6 Phase 2 gained even more weight, but offset itwith an additional 25 horsepower resulting in the 255bhp. Thisresulted in a reduced 0-60mph time of 5.9 seconds and a top speedof 153mph.We are delighted to offer this modern classic supercar that isfinished in the attractive Illiad Blue metallic finish withcontrasting dark grey leather upholstery. Externally, this RenaultSport includes specially designed aerodynamics and body stylingthat includes body coloured rear spoiler, titanium coloured sideair intakes and is finished with a set of 18-inch Oz alloy wheels.Mechanically, the Renault is of 2946cc engine capacity with asix-speed manual gearbox. Amongst many features that you may expectwith a motor car of this year, include, the ABS (anti lock brakes)and EBD (electronic brake distribution) plus a heat reflectingwindscreen, rain sensing windscreen wipers, rear screen wiper, automatic lights, double optic, adjustable Xenon headlights and aThatcham 1 alarm/immobiliser. The interior is most attractive withAlcantara seat and steering wheel inserts, door trims and thecentre console. Body coloured inserts are also featured in thesteering wheel, dashboard and centre console. Unique to thisparticular Renault Sport is the numbered plaque and embossedRenault Sport logos.  Steering wheel controls, cruise control,a six CD multi-changer and a multi function trip computer alsofeature. Renault recommended services every two years, however, theservice records show that from 2010, services have been carried outon an annual basis. The history file includes every MoT testcertificate recorded to date and includes a driver's handbook. Weare informed that the Renault will arrive at the sale with a freshMoT test certificate for a new owner's peace of mind. This is oneof the last Phase 2 Clio V6 255 built by the Renault Sport divisionand was limited to 500 examples. UK supplied and registered, thisrighthand drive model is becoming hard to source, especially inun-modified condition; a true modern collector's item.?

Maserati 4200 Cambiocorsa

Lot # 220 (Sale Order: 118 of 136)

The Maserati 4200 is an evolution from the previous model 3200and also a reference to the increase in engine size from 3.2 to 4.2litres. The Spyder was first unveiled to the public at the 2001Frankfurt Motor Show with the Coupé's debut following shortly afterat the 2002 Detroit Motor Show. Both cars were designed byGiorgetto Giugiaro of ItalDesign and is a true four-seater capableof comfortably seating two adults in the back. The naturallyaspirated V8 engine was based on a Ferrari unit producing 385hp at7000rpm; the manual gearbox is a six-speed unit that was availableeither as a GT (manual) or CC (Cambiocorsa) using paddle shifters. The Cambiocorsa ('race change' in Italian) is an electro-hydraulicmanual transmission that uses a Formula 1 type gearbox withhydraulic operation and electronic management operated by F1-stylepaddles behind the steering wheel. The gearbox is located at theback of the car with the rear differential giving equal weightdisproportion between the front and rear of the car giving betterroad holding. With Ferrari and Maserati the service history is allimportant; you can therefore relax in this instance in theknowledge that this has a full service history, all at Maserati'sdealers with a recent service at Lancaster's. A new clutch wasinstalled at 38,000 miles and the correct Michelin Sport tyres arefitted to refurbished wheels. The private registration plate isalso included in the sale as are all documents, two sets of keysand the owners' wallet and handbooks. Described by the vendor asexcellent in every respect, this extremely reasonably pricedexample should generate much interest.

The 996 is the internal designation for the Porsche 911 model;it was manufactured and sold between 1998 and 2005. Mercedes-Benz CL 600

Lot # 222 (Sale Order: 120 of 136)

The CL Class is the flagship of the Mercedes-Benz car range. Itcontinued to follow the same development cycle as the S-Classthough riding on a shorter wheelbase and offered with only thehigher-output powertrains. It was the first Mercedes to featureActive Body Control, Bi-Xenon headlights and, on the early V12models such as this one, it employed Active Cylinder Control. Thisshut down one bank of cylinders under light engine loads enablingit to achieve better fuel economy than the V8 CL500. Not bad for acar with a six litre V12 developing 367bhp and yielding aSoyuz-launching 0-60mph time of 5.9 seconds. It is as a GrandTourer that this model is primarily designed for though. With morerear seat space than many executive saloons, a huge boot and atruly cosseting driving environment, the CL is one of the mostsoothing cars you could hope to take on a long trip. Theperformance is remarkable and the turbine-smooth V12 is, frankly, epic.Resplendent in this rare colour combination of metallic Titanitered with Java/Cashmere leather upholstery and originally registeredon the 1st January, 2001 to Neville Anthony Howard, it passedquickly to the current keeper, a country vet who maintained it inits current immaculate condition until today. Despite the lowmileage, it has always been serviced by Mercedes-Benz main agents, originally in Gatwick and then in Guildford. Invoices are includedillustrating a continued maintenance schedule and the originalowner's pack is also present. Each year the manufactures warrantywas extended to ensure that the car wanted for nothing. Uponinspection, the condition is exemplary. The rare factory periodNokia phone still works and even has the cellophane on its display.Key options include heated massaging front seats and a BOSE audiosystem. The hidden cassette player glides into view upon requestand the first-aid kit is still in its cellophane along with anunused spare wheel and tool kit including a full set of sparefuses. The dished alloy wheels are all in good order and theexterior paintwork is excellent. The engine bay, amazingly, appearsin the same condition as it rolled off the Sindelfingen productionline. Mercedes-Benz really do make excellent motorcars.

Lot # 224 (Sale Order: 122 of 136)

TheChevrolet Corvette is instantly recognisable by the marqueaficionado and non-aficionado alike. The first model, aconvertible, was designed by Harley Earl and introduced at the GMMotorama in 1953 as a concept show car. Originally built in Flint,Michigan and St. Louis, Missouri, the Corvette, today, ismanufactured in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The third-generationCorvette, the C3, was designed along the lines of the Mako Shark IIconcept car and was introduced for the 1968 model year continuingin production until 1982. Nissan Skyline R33 GT-R V-Spec N1

Lot # 225 (Sale Order: 123 of 136)

After a 16-year hiatus, the GT-R name was revived in 1989 withthe Skyline R32; this car was nicknamed 'Godzilla' by theAustralian motoring publication 'Wheels' in its July 1989 edition. The R33 was introduced in August 1993 and was considered the safestmodel at that time due its airbag system and internal crash bars.Few cars have built up quite such a mantle of invincibility asNissan's Skyline GT-R. Founded on saloon car racing dominance, almost implausible lap times of the Nürburgring and an undergroundfollowing that translated into an unquenchable public demand herein the UK, the Skyline has created its own legends. The GT-R offered today was built to Victory-Specification(V-Spec) N1, also referred to as Group N Racing.  This makesthis GT-R one of only 71 built and in the Japanese signature colourof International Racing White. What makes the N1 exclusive is thatit was factory built as a lightweight performance motor car.Deletion of the ABS, rear wiper, air conditioning, boot carpet andsound system (please note that this car was specified with a soundsystem and does have a boot mat fitted) were standard. Furtherweight saving and aerodynamic upgrades enhanced the performance;these features included, a small spoiler on the front of thebonnet, an adjustable carbon-fibre rear spoiler and a carbon fibreunder-tray which aided air flow around the engine bay and increaseddown force. The big mention is the assembly of a revised andstrengthened N1, 2560cc engine block that features cam timing, thicker cylinder walls, enhanced water cooling channels, stifferinlet hosing, an upgraded oil and water pumps, high flow exhaustmanifold, steel bodied turbo chargers and other design features toincrease longevity. Jaguar XJS-S Convertible by Banham

Lot # 227 (Sale Order: 125 of 136)

That Jaguar's XJS has become a 'bona fide' classic is beyonddoubt. Launched in 1975, its twenty one year production life was atestimony to the excellence of its basic design. Its excellent rideand handling balance was justly praised by the contemporarymotoring press. The car was re-engineered in 1991 with the rearside windows enlarged and a new four litre engine. The rear sectionbenefitted from the new 'facelift' rear lights with the front asbefore, a series 1½ if you will. Banham Conversions (Banmoco) was amaker of kit cars from the late 1970s until 2004. The company wasfounded by Paul Banham who started off building convertibleconversions on commission. He made convertible versions of theFerrari 400, Aston Martin DBS and V8, and the Rolls-Royce Corniche.By the 1980s, he was marketing a kit to rebody the Jaguar XJS. Healso offered convertible conversions for the XJS and Jaguar XJ6.The company was eventually sold in 2004 to Rally Sport ReplicasLtd. who sought to create new chassis for the designs but theyceased trading in mid-2005. This extremely rare Paul Banham XJS-S, 3.6 litre automaticconvertible has photographic build history from the original ownerwho commissioned the conversion. Although in need of some cosmeticrestoration, the car, we are informed, is more importantlymechanically extremely good, with this part of the restorationprocess having been completed. Offered with an owner's manual anddescribed as driving perfectly, this Banham has a 12 month MoT testcertificate and is potentially a real collector'sitem.?
