[84] J. Novotny Back-Action Hammer Vierling, 16ga x 16ga x 8 x 72R x 5.6 x 35R | SN: 176678

Lot # 127276 (Sale Order: 84 of 558)

J. Novotny back-action hammer Vierling. Double 16 gauge, 8 x 72R and 5.6 x 35R. Hammer Vierlings appear to be much more scarce than they should be. I have only heard of two in 40 years of collecting, but considering the simplicity of the selector mechanism, they should have been quite popular. J. Novotny was a gun maker (or distributor?) in Budapest and Prague in the early part of the Twentieth Century. This gun has a side opener and the selector switch is a top lever. Proofed in 1913, all barrels are Nitro proofed. The 5.6 barrel is located in the top rib. There is approximately 50% floral scroll engraving. The trigger guard and pistol grip cap are steel, while the butt plate is horn. Barrels are 27 inches long. An engraved cartridge trap is also present, which holds 4 of the larger rifle cartridges and 6 of the smaller!! Despite the 4 barrels and their length, the gun only weighs 7 lb. 3 oz. While there are many small dings and dents in the stock and a few in the barrels, the overall condition is truly amazing with some case coloring still left on the receiver and locks. Featured in Autumn, 2012 and Winter, 2011 Double Gun Journal and The Accurate Rifle in October, 2001. ** WITH RESERVE **

[85] Vierordt Double Rifle/Drilling, .405 Win x .405 Win x 12 ga| SN: 17214

Lot # 127277 (Sale Order: 85 of 558)

Vierordt Double Rifle Drilling. Double .405 Winchester over a 12 gauge and built on a Blitz trigger plate action, together with Kersten barrel extensions. The top lever bears the information that the gun is built on Kerstens patented action. A Greener safety is present, the butt plate and pistol grip cap are horn and the trigger guard is lightly engraved steel. The selector switch is in the top tang. Despite its size the gun is remarkably well balanced and with the caliber selections, would be a great gun for brown bears in the alders. This is a massive gun with 26 inch barrels. Very plain in ornamentation with only a modest amount of scroll engraving, it is in superb condition throughout. Featured in Spring, 2013 Double Gun Journal and The Accurate Rifle, 2002 ** WITH RESERVE **

[86] Austrian Guild Back-Action Hammer Drilling, 16ga x 16 ga x 8 x 57R/360 | SN: 1862G

Lot # 127278 (Sale Order: 86 of 558)

Austrian Guild back-action hammer Drilling. Double 16 gauge over 8 x 57R/360. Although proofed in 1927, the gun bears no makers name. It is, however, Nitro proofed. Barrels are 27 inches in length and it is a top lever break with a top tang barrel selector. There is relief-carved double game scene engraving with bold oak leaf scroll on the trigger guard as well as the receiver and lock plates. This gun is in excellent condition throughout and is a very fine example of a late hammer gun. Featured in Double Gun Journal Autumn, 2013 ** WITH RESERVE **

[87] Otto Oberlauter Hammerless Blitz-Actioned Drilling, 16ga x 16 ga x 8x57 RS | SN: 20068

Lot # 127279 (Sale Order: 87 of 558)

Otto Oberlauter hammerless Blitz-actioned Drilling. Double 16 gauge and 8 x 57RS. 26 3/4 inch barrels. This gun was made in 1939 and is in excellent condition, except for a repaired crack in the stock behind the left rear portion of the action. There is a lever-type safety below this crack which still functions perfectly. The receiver is game scene and scroll engraved and is very well done, including the bottom of the receiver. The trigger guard and butt plate are horn and the pistol grip is of Prince of Wales style. Interesting offset scope bases of the claw type are present, but there is no scope. There apparently was a dent in the forward part of the right shotgun barrel which has been expertly removed The barrels have not been refinished. The gun retains a very high portion of its original finish. It is an excellent shooter. Featured in Precision Shooting July, 2005. ** WITH RESERVE **

[88] Joseph Zeller Full Sidelock Drilling, 12 ga x 12 ga x 9.3x72R| SN: 418

Lot # 127280 (Sale Order: 88 of 558)

Joseph Zeller full sidelock Drilling. Double 12 gauge and 9.3 x 72R rifle barrel. This is an early hammerless gun, having been proofed in March 1904. The shot barrels have been proofed with Nitro powder but apparently the rifle barrel has not, although I have fired it often with smokeless powder. This gun has fantastic relief game scene and acanthus vine engraving on both the lock plates and the receiver. There is a cartridge trap which is similarly engraved and which holds four rifle cartridges. Somewhere in its past the stock had been refinished and the checkering refreshed, both in an expert manner, and done so that the wood to metal fit is still perfect. The gun overall is in excellent condition, but the rifle barrel has some frosting, which doesnt interfere with its ability to shoot. Featured in Double Gun Journal Winter, 2010 and The Accurate Rifle, October, 2003. ** WITH RESERVE **

[89] W. Eblen Hammerless Dural-framed Vierling, 16ga x 16ga x 8 x 57RS x 5.6 x 35R | SN: 1849

Lot # 127281 (Sale Order: 89 of 558)

W. Eblen Hammerless Dural-framed Vierling. Double 16 gauge with an 8 x 57RS barrel on the bottom and a 5.6 x 35R barrel just under and between the two shot barrels. This trigger plate- actioned Vierling has all 4 hammers located on the trigger plate. A removable panel in the right side of the stock allows you to see the lock mechanism and at least keep the gun clean. Of top lever break design, the gun also displays side clips and a slight action bolster. The action is very heavily game scene engraved and is made of a light-weight Dural alloy. A Greener safety is present and there is a barrel selector switch on the top tang and another one in the front right of the trigger guard. Barrels are 23 3/4 inches long and there is floral engraving extending about one inch from the breech end of the barrels, which engraving is also present on the cartridge trap. An interesting extractor system provides one extractor that functions on all 4 barrels and a second one that functions only on both rifle barrels. The shotgun chambers are original 2 3/4 inches long. The gun was proofed in 1937. The butt stock has been cut and then lengthened, then a horn butt plate expertly attached. The trigger guard is also horn. This is a very high quality gun in overall excellent condition. Featured in Winter, 2016 Double Gun Journal and July 2005 Precision Shooting. ** WITH RESERVE **

[90] Emil Martin Vierling, 20ga x 20ga x 8 x 72 R/360 x 5.6 x 35R | SN: 7509

Lot # 127282 (Sale Order: 90 of 558)

Emil Martin Vierling. Double 20 gauge (!) 8 x 72 R/360 and 5.6 x 35R, built on a genuine Anson & Deeley box lock system as modified by Herren Dotsch & Martin. This gun has many unique features and probably is one of a kind. To begin with, both shotgun barrels are on top of both rifle barrels which are side by side. Secondly, a selector system is present, which allows unlimited sequence of firing for the various barrels. The receiver is steel but the barrels are only 22 inches long to compensate for the weight of the receiver. Shotgun chambers are 2 3/4 inches in length. While there is no specific proof date, the proof marks are of the post-1935 style. The action is case colored and there is minimal engraving on the receiver; however, the gun is in remarkable shape and probably 70% of the case coloring is still present. The action is marked System Dotsch & Martin and a patent number is given which, interestingly enough is a number of a patent having nothing to do with a gun of any type; however, the selector system was properly patented. All stock fittings are horn. The gun is in extremely good condition throughout. Featured in Winter, 2016 Double Gun Journal and The Accurate Rifle, October 2001. ** WITH RESERVE **

[91] J. J. Reeb Double Rifle Drilling, 10.75 x 52R x 10.75x52R x 16ga | SN: 2902

Lot # 127283 (Sale Order: 91 of 558)

J. J. Reeb Double Rifle drilling. This gun is a double 10.75 x 52R over a 16 gauge and is made on a genuine Anson & Deeley box lock action. The rifle caliber, while very scarce, is also very powerful and this would make an excellent bear gun. The French grey receiver has approximately 80% floral scroll engraving. The barrels are 25 1/4 inches in length, there is a Greener side safety, the barrel selector is on the top tang and all stock fittings are horn. An American scope has been fitted with custom made claw mount rings. The gun is in amazingly good shape in and out, except for some ugly gouges in the stock just behind the left top of the frame, what happens when you trust a guide to take care of your gun. The gun is proof marked with both the pre and post-1912 proofs. Shotgun chambers are 2 5/8 inches. The most unique feature of this gun is an adjustable wedge in the muzzle between the barrels. This is supposedly a feature invented within the last 20 years or so. Hah! The stock is a highly figured piece of burl walnut. Comes with custom-made reloading dies. ** WITH RESERVE **

[92] Wilhelm Brenneke Back-Action Hammer Drilling, 16ga x 16ga x 8 x 72R | SN: NVN

Lot # 127284 (Sale Order: 92 of 558)

Wilhelm Brenneke back-action hammer Drilling. This is a very rare example of an early Brenneke gun and is chambered for 16 gauge and Brennekes 8 x 72R cartridge. Both the receiver and the locks contain 100% coverage relief oak leaf engraving, the type that can almost cut your fingers. The butt plate is cross-hatched steel and has a cartridge trap in it. The trigger guard and pistol grip cap are horn. There is a tang peep sight. Barrels are 26 3/4 inches. Both shotgun barrels are proofed for smokeless powder, but the rifle barrel does not appear to be. Still, I have fired the gun often with smokeless powder. Overall condition of the gun is truly excellent and it has been featured in the Autumn, 2012 issue of Double Gun Journal. ** WITH RESERVE **

[93] Wilhelm Brenneke Semi-Hammerless Drilling, 16ga x 16ga x 8x72R | SN: 2222

Lot # 127285 (Sale Order: 93 of 558)

Wilhelm Brenneke semi-hammerless Drilling. This gun, chambered for the 16 gauge shot shell and Brennekes own 8 x 72R rifle cartridge, is made on his patented safety action wherein when the gun is broken open the external hammer spurs are automatically cocked. They also can be manually cocked. There is a grip safety on the top tang behind the opening lever. The selector switch is likewise on the top tang. The gun is lightly engraved with a floral scroll pattern, as are the hammers and top tang. The trigger guard, pistol grip cap and butt plate are all horn. Barrels are 26 3/4 inches and the rear sight pops up when the selector switch is pushed forward. The gun is Nitro proofed and is in excellent condition throughout. This is a very good example of a very scarce gun. Pictured in Autumn, 2012 Double Gun ** WITH RESERVE ** Journal.

[94] Eduard Kettner Over-Under Sidelock, 24 gauge and 8 x 58R | SN: 3874

Lot # 127286 (Sale Order: 94 of 558)

Eduard Kettner over-under sidelock 24 gauge and 8 x 58R. This is a very nice gun in a couple of strange chamberings. It is proofed in May of 1928 and, of course, is all Nitro proofed. Barrels are 25 1/2 inches long. The gun has game scene and floral engraving on the receiver and on the locks. There is a cartridge trap holding one shot shell and two rifle shells and is engraved in a floral scroll pattern to match that on the receiver. The gun is very light, very handy and built on a small frame. It is in excellent condition. The checkering has been expertly refreshed, but there is no sign of any other work having been done on the gun. Although Kettner is genuinely believed to have been a German maker, he was additionally a distributer of other firearms bearing his name. This particular gun, like many others, was made in Belgium. Thus, the crown over R proof mark is not the German rework marking, but a standard Belgium marking. A very high quality gun. Comes with reloading dies. Featured in Winter, 2015 D. G. J. ** WITH RESERVE **

[95] Willi Koenig Over-Under Combination Gun, 16 gauge and 5.6 x 52R (.22 Savage Hi-Power) | SN: 103

Lot # 127287 (Sale Order: 95 of 558)

Over-under combination gun, 16 gauge and 5.6 x 52R (.22 Savage Hi-Power) either made by Wolfgang Muller or Willi Koenig. Whichever one did not make the gun, distributed it. Although certainly a pre-war gun, this gun is in like new condition and bears more proof marks than most three guns would have combined. In addition to the German proofs, there is a whole bunch of English proofs; however, these tell us much more about the gun. For instance, that the shotgun chamber is 2 3/4 inches and it is intended for 1 1/8 ounce of shot. The rifle barrel was intended for a 70 grain bullet and 22.5 grains of some type of nitro cellulose powder. Built on a genuine Anson & Deeley box lock action, the gun has two game scenes deeply engraved on each side of the receiver with relief oak leaves engraved on the fences. The stock fittings are all horn and the stock is a very nice fiddleback walnut with a Bavarian style cheek piece. Automatic selective ejectors are also present. The condition of the gun would make you think it was made yesterday. This is a very high quality gun in amazing original condition. Featured in the September, 2001 issue of The Accurate Rifle and to be featured in an upcoming Double Gun Journal article. ** WITH RESERVE **

[96] Eduard Kettner Bockdrilling, 7 x 65R, .22 Rimfire Magnum and 16 gauge | SN: 40-3947

Lot # 127288 (Sale Order: 96 of 558)

Eduard Kettner Bockdrilling. 7 x 65R, .22 Rimfire Magnum and 16 gauge. This is a more or less typical post-war Ferlach made gun, although the Bockdrilling configuration is seldom seen over here. Although retailed by Kettner, the gun was actually made by Ludwig Borovnik in Ferlach, Austria in 1975. Built on a Blitz-action, the receiver is French greyed with light relief game scene engraving. Barrels are 25 1/2 inches long and a 3-to-9 power Zeiss scope is mounted with claw bases and a rail mount, perhaps Europes best mounting system. The gun is in overall excellent condition inside and out with only a few minor dings in the stock. Although I have shot it often, as far as I know it has never been used for hunting. A very good example of a seldom seen configuration. Featured in Double Gun Journal Autumn, 2015. ** WITH RESERVE **

[97] Victor Sarasquetta Full Sidelock Double, .475 No. 2 Nitro Express | SN: 97212

Lot # 127289 (Sale Order: 97 of 558)

This is an absolutely gorgeous elephant gun equal to any British version of the same. It is a full sidelock with very detailed scroll engraving on the case colored locks, receiver and fences. The barrels are 24 inches and the sighting arrangements are as befitting a dangerous game rifle, single standing rear sight and a brass bead front sight in a short ramp. The pistol grip cap is also engraved and case colored and opens to reveal a trap, probably for a spare firing pin at one time. The gun was made in 1955 and is in superb condition in and out. It certainly lets you know when it goes off but it is very accurate. There is a new Silvers recoil pad to match the original that had disintegrated. The gun weighs 8 lbs. 13 oz. Intercepting sears and selective ejectors are also present. The stock wood is a particularly elegant set of probably Circassian walnut. Featured in Double Gun Journal Spring, 2014. Cased. Includes die set. ** WITH RESERVE **

[99] G. Guntermann Double Rifle, 9.3 x 82R x 9.3 x 82R | SN: 433

Lot # 127291 (Sale Order: 99 of 558)

G. Guntermann 9.3 x 82R Double Rifle. This is one of the more intriguing double rifles I have ever owned. Weighing a scant 5 lbs. 10 oz. and built on a very petite frame, it is chambered for the rather lengthy 82mm case. Having 26 inch barrels, the gun features an elk and cow engraving on the left and on the right are two boars. Floral scroll engraving is also present. There is a gold border around the engraving on the sides and on the bottom a gold border surrounds a circle with a hare engraved therein. Gold scroll work surrounds this. The breech end of the barrels also have two gold bands and a little bit of scroll engraving. The triggers are gold-plated. The trigger guard is made of horn and is oversized in the front to readily accommodate a gloved trigger finger. The name G. Guntermann-Dusseldorf is in gold on the top rib. This is an older gun built on an Anson & Deeley action with a Greener top bolt. It is not Nitro proofed but is in absolutely wonderful condition, retaining virtually all of its original finish. The bores are excellent. Thanks to some Bertram brass, I have been able to fire this gun and have used smokeless powder. In power, it is no stronger than the more typical 9.3 x 72R. A very high quality gun throughout. ** WITH RESERVE **

[100] G. Ulbricht Back-Action Hammer Double Rifle, 11.15 x 60R (.43 Mauser) x 11.15 x 60R (.43

Lot # 127292 (Sale Order: 100 of 558)

G. Ulbricht back-action hammer 11.15 x 60R (.43 Mauser) Double Rifle. A rather ornate double with almost Bullino-type full coverage game scene engraving with a sounder of four boars on the right side and two fighting stags on the left of the receiver, and three Roebuck on the left lock plate and two Roebuck on the right lock plate. The action has a Jones Screw-grip opener. The butt plate is horn, as is the pistol grip. The butt stock would otherwise be a straight grip style. The butt stock is a rather spectacular piece of crotch grain walnut with a rather pronounced cheek piece. We Americans would doubtless have thrown this piece of wood away, but the Europeans appreciate the rare beauty it possesses. The 26 1/2 inch barrels cause the gun to balance perfectly. The gun is chambered for the standard military .43 Mauser cartridge which, of course, has been commercially loaded with smokeless powder, although the gun is not Nitro proofed. The gun is a very good shooter and is in amazingly fine condition throughout, with only slight freckling on the outside of the barrels. Featured in Double Gun Journal Spring, 2011. ** WITH RESERVE **
