[101] Emil R. Martin Back-Action Hammer Double Rifle, 11.15 x 65R x 11.15 x 65R | SN: 2894

Lot # 127293 (Sale Order: 101 of 558)

Emil R. Martin 11.15 x 65R back-action hammer Double Rifle. This gun is made on a modified Le Faucheaux action. This is an older gun, probably made in the 1890s. The barrels are 26 1/4 inch and are not twist steel. The trigger guard is steel with a horn filigreed pistol grip behind it. The under-lever is horn and the butt plate is checkered steel. There is a cartridge trap in the toe of the stock which holds five cartridge. Claw scope bases are present but no scope is with the gun. The gun is very plain with only some modest scroll engraving, but is in remarkable condition considering its age. Even the checkering is largely undisturbed. The butt stock is fairly fancy walnut with a large cheek piece. Although not Nitro proofed, the breeches of the rifle are so thick that I have not hesitated using smokeless powder. The cases can easily be made from 9.3 x 74R and in power it is close to a .45-70. The bores are excellent. Featured in The Accurate Rifle September, 2004. ** WITH RESERVE **

[102] J. P. Sauer Model 98 Double Rifle, .450 x 3 1/4 inch Black Powder Express x .450 x 3 1/4 inch

Lot # 127294 (Sale Order: 102 of 558)

Very rare J. P. Sauer Model 98 Double Rifle .450 x 3 1/4 inch Black Powder Express back-action hammer gun with reinforced breeches and Scott top-spindle lever. I am not certain what the original chambering of this gun was for two reasons. First, there is a crown over R rework proof mark present on the gun. Secondly, the recesses for the three-hole cartridge trap will not accommodate a loaded 3 1/4 inch case. Whatever it was originally, it regulates very well using a Nitro-for-black equivalent load. The gun only weighs 7 lbs. 10 oz. and would be sufficient for anything up to elk in the dark timber. The butt plate is horn and there is a carved horn pistol grip behind the horn trigger guard. There is light but well done game scene engraving on both locks and the receiver. That on the locks is particularly detailed and very tasteful. There is a tang sight present, in addition to claw scope bases (but no scope). Bores are excellent. The gun is in beautiful condition in and out. Featured in Winter, 2011 Double Gun Journal. Cased, and with custom-made reloading dies. ** WITH RESERVE **

[103] Emil Hoerning Double Rifle, .450 x 3 1/4 inch Black Powder Express x .450 x 3 1/4 inch Black

Lot # 127295 (Sale Order: 103 of 558)

Emil Hoerning .450 x 3 1/4 inch Black Powder Express Double Rifle made on an Anson & Deeley box lock action with a dolls head extension. This is a very interesting gun for several reason, one of which is that the bores taper from .458 inch in front of the chambers to .452 inch at the muzzles. It is also very small and petite, being built on a very small action for the caliber size. Further, the barrels are fully octagonal. Then, too, there is the original low-power scope mounted over the end of the fore end with a very simple quick detachable release system (and you thought the Scout scope concept was new!). Light engraving can be found on the receiver and much of the original case coloring is still present. There is carving and checkering behind the receiver and the fore end is almost completely covered with checkering, except for the ivory inlay in the tip. There is a carved horn butt plate and a steel trigger guard. It resides in a leather case marked John Blanch & Son, London gun maker and it has been fitted to the gun. I have no idea what this all means, except that it is a high quality gun. Oh, yes, the tang safety is also automatic. Featured in the Winter, 2011 Double Gun Journal. Cased, and with custom-made reloading dies. ** WITH RESERVE **

[104] Gustav Genchow (GECO) Over-Under Double Rifle, 9.3 x 74R x 9.3 x 74R | SN: 2959

Lot # 127296 (Sale Order: 104 of 558)

Gustav Genchow (GECO) full sidelock over-under Double Rifle 9.3 x 74R with 60% scroll engraving on the action and lock plates. There is practically full coverage on the bottom of the receiver and the steel pistol grip cap is also engraved. Barrels are 23 inches in length and three claw scope bases are present. Two of them have been fitted with a very well made set of rings and a four-power Unertl Hawk is mounted. Made in 1928, the gun is fully Nitro proofed and regulated for a 286 grain steel jacketed bullet. It regulates well with bullets of this weight, as well as with bullets weighing 232 grains. The butt plate is horn, as is the trigger guard. Overall, the gun is in excellent condition with very good to excellent bores. Featured in Spring, 2012 Double Gun Journal and January, 2007 Precision Shooting. ** WITH RESERVE **

[105] G. Grundig Over-Under Double Rifle, 8 x 57R/.360 x 8 x 57R/.360 | SN: 13395

Lot # 127297 (Sale Order: 105 of 558)

G. Grundig over-under Blitz-actioned 8 x 57R/.360 Double Rifle built on a round snap-actioned receiver. The gun has several high grade and well done embellishments, including game scene engraving on both sides of the receiver, as well as the top and top tang and the bottom, bottom tang and underlever. Extensive stock carving surrounds the generous checkering on the butt stock and especially on the right side, but perhaps the most impressive feature of the gun are the barrels, they are octagonal. The butt stock is English-style and the butt plate is cross-hatched steel. Another interesting feature are the cocking indicators. They are located in the top tang and protrude when fired, rather than when the gun is cocked. The gun is Nitro proofed, but I have fired it often with smokeless powder and soft jacketed bullets and it regulates quite well. This is a rare example of a gun maker located in Dresden, Germany. Featured in Double Gun Journal, October 2013 and Precision Shooting, July 2005. ** WITH RESERVE **

[106] Franz Sodia Bergstutzen Double Rifle, .222 Remington over 7 x 65R | SN: 17039

Lot # 127298 (Sale Order: 106 of 558)

Franz Sodia Bergstutzen made in Ferlach, Austria and built on a standard Blitz action. .222 Remington over 7 x 65R. 23 3/4 inch barrels are present. The receiver is engraved with game scene and floral scroll engraving with a roaring stag on the left and a running Roebuck on the right. The upper barrel is slab-sided to reduce weight and the fore end commensurately stepped down. The fore end is three piece but the gun does not have ejectors. It was made in 1970 and the barrels are Bohler Rasant steel. A 6 x 42 Zeiss scope is present which has a rail and which is mounted in claw bases. The cheek piece is Bavarian-style with two flutes. There are several minor dings and dents in the stock but, other than these, the condition is extremely good throughout. A light and handy gun. Featured years ago in Double Gun Journal in an article by the previous owner. ** WITH RESERVE **

[107] Eduard Kettner Double Rifle, 8 x 72R x 8 x 72R | SN: 12183

Lot # 127299 (Sale Order: 107 of 558)

Eduard Kettner 8 x 72R Double Rifle, built on an Anson and Deeley box lock action with a Greener top bolt and side clips . The barrels are 22 in length .There is a horn butt plate and a horn fore end tip, although the trigger guard and pistol grip cap are steel. The gun is fully Nitro proofed. This is a very petite-actioned gun weighing only 6 pounds, six ounces. The receiver is blued and has very minimal border engraving, although the fences have more extensive work The stock is a very interesting and colorful piece of European walnut. Claw-type scope bases are present, but there is no scope. Overall condition, both inside and outside is excellent, as are the bores. [108] Franz Kettner Over-Under Double Rifle, 7 x 57R x 7 x 57R | SN: 378

Lot # 127300 (Sale Order: 108 of 558)

Franz Kettner 7 x 57R over-under Double Rifle built on a side-plated Anson & Deeley box lock action. A Kersten top bolt attaches through two barrel extensions giving the gun a very solid lockup. About 50% floral and scroll engraving is present on the receiver and side plates, as well as the bottom of the receiver, the gold-plated pistol grip cap as well as the gold-plated fore end metal and safety push lever. The trigger guard and butt plate ar horn. A one inch thick piece of horn has been fitted between the butt plate and the very fancy grained butt stock. The safety is automatic and is engaged when the barrels are dropped instead of when the top lever is moved. Homemade scope mounts have been fitted to the claw bases and a Leupold 1.5-5 power scope is included. The gun appears to have been proofed in February of 1931 and is Nitro proofed. The checkering pattern is a bit fancier than normal and very well done. The gun regulates well and is in beautiful condition throughout. ** WITH RESERVE **

[109] Gebruder Merkel Bergstutzen, 7 x 65R over 5.6 x 50R | SN: 104922

Lot # 127301 (Sale Order: 109 of 558)

Gebruder Merkel Bergstutzen 7 x 65R and 5.6 x 50R. This is an East German gun which appears to be proof-dated July of 1982. It has one totally unusual feature and that is that the larger rifle barrel is on top. I have never heard of this configuration before in a German gun, and as one correspondent in Germany states, the gun was almost certainly specially ordered. It is built on a Blitz-actioned box lock which is fully engraved with game scenes and floral scroll. On the left of the receiver is a stag pursuing his lady friend. On the right side are two boars being pursued by a dog. The engraving is a cut above the average, also lending credence to the special order theory. Selective automatic ejectors are present, as is a six-power Zeiss scope with a rail in claw mounts. The regulating wedge protrudes an eighth of an inch past the muzzles and the barrels appear to have been made of a stainless steel, then copper plated and finally blued. They are marked ESW Spezial Weichlot. The gun is in excellent shape, except for some minor scratches, and the bores are perfect. A very interesting and possibly unique firearm. Featured in Double Gun Journal, Autumn 2001 issue. ** WITH RESERVE **
