Lot # 107055 (Sale Order: 103 of 599)

The bore is excellent, however there are four extra holes in the left side of the receiver for a scope mount and a Williams receiver sight has been added. Sako L-579 Custom Sporter .308 Win SN: 90075

Lot # 106016 (Sale Order: 111 of 599)

Here is an absolutely beautiful rifle and one I hate to sell. A Sako L-579 custom sporter made by Flaig's Lodge, formerly of Millvale, PA and chambered for the .308 Winchester. It has a 19" half-octagonal Bohler barrel with an integral full rib and ramp front sight. The stock is a spectacular fiddle-crotch full-length American Walnut. Elaborate ribbon and fleur-de-lis checkering and Niedner-type checkered butt plate and pistol grip cap are present. The entire rifle, including the bore, is in excellent to new condition with high gloss bluing and glossy oil stock finish. Could not be better. Scope not included. This gun featured in The Accurate Rifle, November, 2004, and Precision Shooting, October, 2005.

Model 98 Mauser Varmint Rifle. 26" Walther medium heavy match barrel chambered for the 6 x 62 Freres cartridge, a European standard very similar to the 6mm/06 and easily made from .25/06. It wears a Fajen Varmint stock which, while very serviceable, will never be confused with an Al Biesen original. There is a Timney trigger and a Unertl 15X 2" Varmint scope. All metal is finished in a matte blue. Excellent condition and a good shooter. This gun featured in The Accurate Rifle, January, 2002. Receiver ring is marked Sauer & Sohn.

Mauser 98 Custom Sporter 7x61 Sharpe and Hart SN: 1107

Lot # 106001 (Sale Order: 114 of 599)

A very unusual and beautiful custom sporter built on a Mauser 98 action which has all the custom metal work of a 1950s vintage gun, but the best part of the rifle is the stock. To begin with, it is a fairly fancy piece of what used to be called Icelandic Walnut with contracting forend tip and pistol grip cap. It is completely carved with a game scene and oak leaves. Caliber is 7 x 61 Sharpe & Hart and is in a 25" barrel. All metal is high polished and blued and is 98%+. The bore is excellent and the stock has a few small signs of use. A thin rubber recoil paid has been added. The gun wears a 3.5-10X Millett scope in a one piece Redfield mount. The rifle is very accurate. This gun featured in Precision Shooting, April, 2006 and The Accurate Rifle, November, 2004.

Yugo M-48 Custom Rifle .375/350 Mag SN: TA419

Lot # 106027 (Sale Order: 119 of 599)

A very interesting and handy custom M-48 Yugoslavian Mauser in .375/350 Mag. 20" barrel. The Bastogne Walnut stock is very well done but suffers from some filled in worm holes. (Nonetheless, the gun is quite solid; I have put some 400 rounds through it). Ballistically it closely approaches the .375 H & H, despite the short barrel. All metal work was performed by Carl Chiocca and stock work by Randy Seitzinger. (No, he did not fill in the worm holes; that was my doing.) Leupold 3 power scope with custom dot reticle in Quick Detachable mounts and a Lyman receiver sight. With scope, the gun weighs approximately 7.5 pounds, yet is very comfortable to shoot. Bears in the alders are no match for this gun. Excellent throughout.

Yugo M-48 Custom Rifle .416 Waters Express SN: 255483

Lot # 106028 (Sale Order: 120 of 599)

A truly fantastic custom rifle on an M-24 Yugoslavian receiver in Ken Waters' .416 Express caliber (.416x350 Mag). The man who made this gun retired from gun work at an early age and we are much the worse for it. He made the entire gun except the action - from an English Walnut stock to the 21" octagonal barrel and to the scope bases designed to mount on the barrel and receiver breech so as not to cover the handsome Yugoslavian crest on the action ring. The scope mounts, although Quick Detachable, also permit a complete Lyman receiver sight assembly to be mounted at all times - even with the scope in place. The ramp and bead front sight is also present. Multi-pointed checkering adorns both butt stock and the wrist area. A commercial trigger and tang safety are present to further permit the sight systems to remain in place. A Weaver V 4.5 scope is present in the Q D rings. All metal work is satin blued and it, as well as the stock and the bore, are all like new. This is a very nice, handy and powerful rifle, ready for just about any big game. This gun featured in The Accurate Rifle, November, 2001.

F. L. Neuber Austrian Sporting Rifle 7x57 SN: 754

Lot # 106031 (Sale Order: 121 of 599)

An unbelievable older Austrian sporting rifle, built on a much modified Model 1893 Mannlicher receiver by F. L. Neuber, it has totally handmade bottom metal and a Mauser-type magazine box. The receiver is stippled and engraved and the bottom metal is fully engraved, as is the cartridge trap lid in the butt. A flat bolt handle and double-set triggers complement the action, as well as a recessed folding tang sight. The barrel is 19" long and is round with an integral rear sight base. The stock is full length with an antler burl forend tip and is checkered on both butt stock and forend. A brass cleaning rod is mounted in thimbles under the barrel. A medallion with the initials and the crest of a German or Austrian Count is inletted into the comb of the stock. On the right side of the stock is a strip of metal inlaid into the stock and on which are engraved symbols for the different types of game animals hunted with the rifle. Pin holes attest to the number of each animal shot by the former owner. (He must have been one hell of a hunter.) At one time a side-mounted scope was apparently fitted to the receiver, but the recesses for the bases have been expertly filled in. (I'm guessing this was done to comply with the rules of the hunting club to which the former owner belonged.) Perhaps the best part is that the gun is chambered for the 7 x 57 and is in excellent shape throughout. A rare example of an era in which nobility hunted what and where it wished. This gun featured in Precision Shooting, April, 2012 and The Accurate Rifle, November, 2004.

Christoph Funk Mauser 98 Sporter 5.6x61 VomHofe Super Exp SN: 33133

Lot # 106033 (Sale Order: 122 of 599)

Christoph Funk, Suhl, Germany M 98 Mauser sporter, chambered in the amazing 5.6 x 61 VomHofe Super Express cartridge. 25 1/2" round barrel with a Kahles Helia 862 scope with two dots in custom see-through claw mount rings as well as the original German scope of approximately three power, also using see-through claw mounts. The checkered original stock has a cheek piece and horn fittings and uses a Greener-type safety. There is also a wing safety on the bolt shroud. Double-set triggers are present. The receiver and bottom metal have a slight amount of line engraving. Although the gun has been used, it sure wasn't abused and is in very good to excellent condition throughout. This gun featured in The Accurate Rifle, March, 2001 and Rifle Magazine No. 13.

O. Geyger Mauser Model 1895 Custom 8x60 SN: 160

Lot # 106034 (Sale Order: 123 of 599)

A very unusual between-the-wars German sporting rifle chambered for the 8 x 60 cartridge made on a DWM-made Model 1895 Mauser receiver by Otto Geyger at a time when Model 98 receivers apparently were not available in Germany, probably right after World War I. The gun has a 23 1/2" round barrel, double-set triggers and a flat bolt handle. There are four (!) claw scope mount bases present, including one on the barrel and one of which is in a short quarter rib along with a rear sight. A 4X Redfield scope has been mounted in the rear two bases with a nice pair of see-through rings. Although the gun is all original, other than the scope mounts and is in overall very good condition, the stock, while solid, has seen better days. German sporters of this era not based on the Model 1898 Mausers are very scarce. This gun featured in Precision Shooting, November, 2005.

Mexican Mauser Model 1936 Custom Sporter 7x57 SN: 54194P

Lot # 106036 (Sale Order: 124 of 599)

A very interesting full-stock sporter based on an intermediate-length small ring Model 1936 Mexican Mauser action. The barrel is 18 1/2" long and sports a quarter rib with one standing and one folding rear sight. There is a ramp front sight with a brass bead. The gun is chambered for the time-honored 7 x 57. The stock is a pleasing piece of straight-grained walnut with a fair amount of fiddleback and an ebony Schnabel forend tip and an ebony pistol grip cap. The butt plate is curved steel. Very well executed wrap-around checkering is also present as is a commercial trigger. All metal is high-polished and blued. I don't know who made this rifle but he was/is good. Overall almost as new in and out. Scope not included. This gun featured in The Accurate Rifle, November, 2004.

Mauser Custom Sporter 8x57S SN: 5418

Lot # 106037 (Sale Order: 125 of 599)

This is most likely a post-World War II German-made Mauser sporter chambered in 8 x 57S. The barrel is 18 1/2" long and is round with a ramp front sight and a rather unusual metal forend tip terminates the full-length stock. The butt plate and pistol grip cap are horn, there is a flat bolt handle and a Buehler safety has been added, along with a commercial trigger. Not an original Oberndorf sporter, but still very well done and in truly excellent condition in and out. Scope not included. This gun featured in The Accurate Rifle, November, 2004, and Precision Shooting, July, 2005. Includes Burris mounts.
