***Auction Highlight*** 1896 $2 Silver Certificate Fr-248 "Educational Series" Samuel Morse & Robert

Lot # 118 (Sale Order: 103 of 611)

***Auction Highlight*** 1896 $2 Silver Certificate Fr-248 "Educational Series" Samuel Morse & Robert Fulton Graded f15 By PMG. In 1896, the U.S. Treasury printed S...moreilver Certificates with beautiful designs depicting educational motifs. Known as the “Educational Series,” each of these notes is a numismatic masterpiece. They’re also incredibly difficult to come by. We’ve managed to Bring to auction a $2 note depicting an allegorical figure of Science presenting Steam and Electricity to Commerce and Manufacture, paired with a reverse featuring Samuel Morse (inventor of the Morse code and telegraph) and steamship pioneer Robert Fulton! Due to their theme, these notes became known as “Two Dollar Eds,” although in some circles they are known as “Fulton” or “Morse” notes in reference to the portraits of the two famous Americans on the back of the bill. Still, it’s the beautifully and intricately-engraved images on the front of the bill that are truly inspiring – making it arguably the most classically beautiful two-dollar bill ever printed! In the center is the allegorical figure of Science presenting two children, Steam and Electricity, to the more mature figures of Commerce on the left and Manufacture on the right. Issued just before the Turn of the Century, the novelty of Steam and Electricity was still new and their portrayals as youths, while Science, Industry, and Commerce are all mature women effectively illustrates where America was at that time regarding these new forms of power. In the book 100 Greatest Currency Notes by Q. David Bowers, the $2 Educational Note is ranked #11.

***Auction Highlight*** 1856-s Small 's' Three Dollar Gold 3 Graded au58 By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 123 (Sale Order: 108 of 611)

***Auction Highlight*** 1856-s Small 's' Three Dollar Gold 3 Graded au58 By SEGS. Up for Auction is the very scarce Small s Variety of the 1856-s $3 Princess Head ...moreGold, an issue rare in all regards. The mintmarks on the 1856-S Three-Dollar gold pieces come in three different sizes: Small, Medium, and Large. According to Q. David Bowers and Doug Winter, 80% are of the Medium Mintmark variety, 2-3% are of the Large Mintmark variety, and approximately 15% are of the Small Mintmark variety. Ample satin luster combines with overall sharp definition to define this as a conditionally rare 1856-S three. Perhaps surprisingly for an issue that is so elusive in the finer circulated and Mint State grades, the mintage of 34,500 pieces is actually the fifth highest for circulation strikes of this denomination. Attrition through circulation was high, as one should expect for an early San Francisco Mint gold issue, and the vast majority of the 500 or so coins believed extant are well worn, if not also impaired. At the threshold of Mint State preservation, this attractive Choice AU is sure to catch the eye of astute gold specialists. With only 20 examples surviving in Mint State this Near Mist State example is Tied for 21st Finest. I have included 2 other au58s for your comparison.

Lot # 125 (Sale Order: 110 of 611)

***Auction Highlight*** Full Morgan/Peace Horseshoe Hotel silver $1 roll $20, 1886 & 1900 end. This roll is held in an old casino wrapper from the Horseshoe Hotel...more and Casino in Las Vegas. 1854 Braided Hair Half Cent 1/2c Grades Choice AU/BU Slider

Lot # 129 (Sale Order: 114 of 611)

1854 Braided Hair Half Cent 1/2c Grades Choice AU/BU Slider. Per Ron Guth of PCGS : The Braided Hair half cents boast some of the lowest mintages of any U.S. coin types ...moreand are among the best values, as well. Every date in this type boasts a low mintage. By way of comparison, the mintage of the any Braided hair Half Cent is almost a fraction of the mintage of the 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent (a far more valuable coin), making this an excellent value.

***Auction Highlight*** 1860 Clark, Gruber & Co.Gold Half Eagle $5 Graded vf35 By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 134 (Sale Order: 119 of 611)

***Auction Highlight*** 1860 Clark, Gruber & Co.Gold Half Eagle $5 Graded vf35 By SEGS. Up for Auction is a Rare Territorial Gold, Namely Colorado Gold. A $5 Clark...more, Gruber & Co. Half Eagle. Clark, Gruber & Co. provided Colorado (Jefferson Territory) reliable banking and private mintage of gold coins in Denver and the surrounding area -- a much-needed improvement over trading in gold dust. Imitating the Federal style for their half eagle coinage, the gold content of the coins was as close to standard as possible and of the proper weight (or perhaps even a bit heavy), earning the firm a reputation for honesty and quality. In order to facilitate the circulation of their $2.50 and $5 gold pieces, Clark, Gruber & Co. mimicked the designs of the federally-issued gold coins of that year. However, instead of LIBERTY on the band of the coronet, the makers placed the name of their firm. On the reverse, PIKES PEAK GOLD replaces UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Bold medium-gold color blankets both sides of this moderately worn vf35 example. There are no individually mentionable abrasions, and significant lack of detail is largely confined to the centers, where the coin is characteristically (for the issue) soft in strike. A splendid representative of the type, always in demand. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
