1863 US Fractional Currency 50¢ First Issue Fr-1311 Washington Rare perf Edges W/O Monigram Graded au50 By PMG. Fractional or postage currency has a rich history. ...moreAt the beginning of the Civil War people starting hoarding coins for their precious metal content. Coins became difficult to find because of the hoarding. People started to try to use stamps instead of coins as a means of commerce. The government decided to help ease the hoarding issue by issuing “paper coins” also known as postage currency or fractional currency. Fractional currency was first issued on August 21, 1862 and they were last issued on February 15, 1876. Three cents, five cents, ten cents, twenty-five cents, and fifty cents notes were all issued. Fractional currency is physically smaller than other United States money. It also does not have a serial number.

***Auction Highlight*** 1922 No D Lincoln Cent 1c Graded vf30 By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 735 (Sale Order: 609 of 743)

***Auction Highlight*** 1922 No D Lincoln Cent 1c Graded vf30 By SEGS. It exhibits all the die characteristics which define the 1922 Plain. When looking at a 1922 look ...morefor the following to determine if it is the 1922 Plain which is also known as Die Pair #2: Absolutely no trace of a D, Second 2 in date is sharper than the first 2, All letters in TRUST are sharp, WE is only slightly mushy, L in LIBERTY butts up against the rim, Reverse is sharp with nice wheat lines. According to Jaime Hernandez from PCGS, ‘The 1922 No D Lincoln cent is the only circulation strike coin, in the entire Lincoln cent series which lacks its intended mint mark. In 1922, the Denver Mint was the only Mint which produced cents for that year. Consequently, all 1922 cents should bare the D mint mark. However, since the Denver Mint was under extreme pressure to produce cents for that year, there was a lot of sloppiness in the production process. The 1922 No D Lincoln cent has always been recognized as a major variety within the Lincoln cent series. Due to its popularity this coin has always commanded a hefty premium. The 1922 No D Strong Reverse Lincoln cent is very challenging to acquire due to its high value in any grade.
