Military Payment Certificate (MPC) Series 461 $5 Grades xf

Lot # 1015 (Sale Order: 830 of 850)

Military Payment Certificate (MPC) Series 461 $5 Grades xf. Series 461 military payment certificates were the first “modern” MPCs issued by The United States. The...morey were first released for circulation in Europe on September 16th, 1946 and in the Pacific on September 30th, 1946. These were redeemed and the next series was issued on March 10th, 1947. As you can see, that is a very short use period. Military payment certificates, or MPC, were a form of currency used to pay U.S. military personnel in certain foreign countries. They were used in one area or another from a few months after the end of World War II until a few months after the end of U.S. participation in the Vietnam War – from 1946 until 1973. MPC utilized layers of line lithography to create colorful banknotes that could be produced cheaply. Fifteen series of MPCs were created. However, only 13 series were issued. The remaining two were largely destroyed, although some examples remain. Among the 13 released series a total of 94 notes are recognized.

1935A $1 Silver Certificate North Africa, Signatures of Julian & Morgenthau Grades f+

Lot # 1031 (Sale Order: 841 of 850)

1935A $1 Silver Certificate North Africa, Signatures of Julian & Morgenthau Grades f+. 1935a $1 Silver Certificate North Africa, Signatures of Julian & Morgenthau....more It was the darkest days of World War II, just after Pearl Harbor. Were the Nazis under Field Marshall Rommel preparing a massive push through North Africa? If they did, and succedded, they could use the millions of dollars in currency the seized to buy war material. To thwart this, these Silver Certificates were sent to North Africa. Each has a yellow seal on the front. If the Nazis did succeed to over run our expeditiary force, the currency would be demonetized. After the threat passed, most of these "North Africa" Notes were destroyed. Today they're hard to find. This special 1935A $1 Silver Certificate was printed for use during Operation Torch, the Allied invasion of North Africa. It bears the usual 1935A Julian-Morgenthau signatures. However, this note bears a yellow Treasury seal instead of blue, to assure instant recognition (and devaluation) in the event of defeats by the enemy, or enemy capture of large quantities of cash. Known as a "yellow seal" Silver Certificate, this historic World War II currency note is highly sought after by collectors.

2007 Proof American Silver Eagle 1 oz coin

Lot # 1050 (Sale Order: 849 of 850)

2007 Proof American Silver Eagle 1 oz coin. The American Silver Eagle is considered by many to be the most beautiful coin in production today. It takes its design...more directly from one of the most popular and iconic coins in U.S. history, Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty half-dollar of 1916-1947. Lady Liberty is depicted striding confidently toward a rising sun, draped in the security of the American flag, and carrying laurel and oak branches that symbolize American civic and military power. The reverse of the coin features a new design created expressly for the American Silver Eagle by John Mercanti, the chief engraver at the U.S. Mint. It depicts a proud heraldic eagle placed directly beneath thirteen stars representing the original thirteen colonies.
