***Auction Highlight***1850-p Gold Liberty Quarter Eagle Near TOP POP! $2 1/2 Graded ms64+ By SEGS

Lot # 338 (Sale Order: 258 of 850)

***Auction Highlight***1850-p Near TOP POP! Gold Liberty Quarter Eagle $2 1/2 Graded ms64+ By SEGS. The astonishingly bright surfaces display a semi-proof like app...moreewarance across both sides. Generally well struck, with typical softness over the centers. The canary-yellow surfaces show pale green accents in the fields. A nicely preserved piece that seems high-end for the grade. This issue is very elusive in Mint State, and the current example ranks very high on the roster of finest-known survivors. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight***1794 Liberty Cap Flowing Hair large cent S-22 'Bent Lock' 1c Graded au55 By S

Lot # 339 (Sale Order: 259 of 850)

***Auction Highlight***1794 Liberty Cap S-22 'Bent Lock' Flowing Hair large cent 1c Graded au55 By SEGS. The pleasing patina of terracotta and chocolate brown shad...morees offers golden undertones beneath a light source. Ideally centered on both sides with nearly full denticles at the obverse rim. Struck from an intermediate state equivalent to Noyes Die State B/C, with a crack at the 4 in the date and well-developed mounds through the reverse wreath. Even so, impressive definition is retained throughout Liberty's hair. Sheldon-22 is the Bent Hair Lock, Mounded Reverse variety of the 1794 Liberty Cap cent. These names are derived from the downward bend of the sixth hair lock of Liberty's portrait and die swell on the reverse wreath, though the swelling is not always present in early die state states. As one of the nicest 1794 S-22 cents that we have handled in recent memory, we anticipate strong bidder competition for this premium quality example. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away Coin

***Auction Highlight*** Continental Currency February 17, 1776 $1/6 Fr-CC19 Plate A. Sig. Sam Seller

Lot # 343 (Sale Order: 263 of 850)

***Auction Highlight*** Continental Currency February 17, 1776 $1/6 Fr-CC19 Plate A. Sig. Sam Sellers FUGIO Grades xf+. The February 17, 1776 small denomination no...moretes are fascinating, with Benjamin Franklin designed motifs on both sides. The face has the Fugio design used on the Continental Dollars, and later the 1787 Fugio coppers, with sundial and MIND YOUR BUSINESS. The backs correspond to the coin designs with WE ARE ONE in the center encircled by AMERICAN CONGRESS, with a glory of rays around. These elements are all encircled by linked chains, bearing the names of the original thirteen colonies, joined together. The Fugio notes should be considered Fractional Continental Dollars. The smaller vertical format with this design has an excellent layout. The $1/6 is the lowest denomination of four, printed on double-pane sheets of twelve, using three letter positions per denomination. An emission totaling $4,000,000 payable in Spanish milled dollars, or the equivalent in gold or silver, was authorized by the Continental Congress resolution of February 10, 1776. Of this $1,000,000 was reserved for the first national fractional currency. The front design on the fractional notes includes the first use of the "FUGIO" (I fly) legend and sundial as well as the "Mind your Business" legend. The back shows the thirteen linked rings representing the colonies and the legends "We are one" and "American Congress". Eric Newman has discovered these designs were created by Benjamin Franklin (see his indispensable The Early Paper Money of America p. 53). Note that on the fractional bills the dots in the corners of the front design reflect the denomination, with one dot designating a sixth of a dollar, two dots for a third, three dots for $1/2 and four dots for $2/3. Also, fractional denominations come in plates A, B and C. Again it was Newman who discovered the devices and border designs for the fractional bills were cut by Elisha Gallaudet, who also designed the Continental Currency coin. There is one signer, in red ink, on the fractional bills and two signers, using red and brown ink, on the dollar denominations. Counterfeit detectors for the dollar denominations were made on blue paper. The Franklin designs were adopted for the Continental Currency coin made a few months later and for the 1787 Fugio cents. The paper, made at Ivy Mills in Chester County, Pennsylvania, contained blue fibers and mica flakes. Printed by Hall and Sellers in Philadelphia. Denominations printed were the: $1/6, $1/3, $1/2, $2/3, $1, $2, $3, $4, $5, $6, $7 and $8.

Rare September 2nd, 1861 $5 T-36 Confederate States of America CSA Richmond with Confederate Sailor

Lot # 351 (Sale Order: 271 of 850)

Rare September 2nd, 1861 $5 T-36 Confederate States of America CSA Richmond with Confederate Sailor Graded f12 By PMG. This $5 Confederate note shows a seated woma...moren (Commerce) in flowing robes in the center and a sailor in the lower left corner. This note was printed with black ink on either plain or watermarked paper. There is no design on the back. After the Civil War broke out in 1861, the newly established Confederate government began to issue it's own money as legal tender to the citizens of the South. The gamble was that if the South won the war, the money would be redeemable. The 1st note from the Government of the Confederate States of America was issued in April of 1861. From then on, notes were issued on through 1864. Almost every Confederate note was painstakingly hand signed and numbered. It is not uncommon for these notes to have uneven, or rough borders since scissors or shears were used to hastily cut the sheets of notes apart.
