1864 $5 Confederate Note, T-69 Grades vg, very good

Lot # 751 (Sale Order: 612 of 850)

1864 $5 Confederate Note, T-69 Grades vg, very good. From the seventh and last issue of Confederate currency, these bills were authorized in February 1864. When th...moreese $5 notes were issued over 150 years ago, each one was individually signed and numbered. This $5 Confederate note has a pink overprint and a picture of the Virginia State Capitol in the center. In the lower right corner of the note is a picture of C.G. Memminger. This note was printed on plain paper with pink and black ink on the front and blue ink on the back. After the Civil War broke out in 1861, the newly established Confederate government began to issue it's own money as legal tender to the citizens of the South. The gamble was that if the South won the war, the money would be redeemable. The 1st note from the Government of the Confederate States of America was issued in April of 1861. From then on, notes were issued on through 1864. Almost every Confederate note was painstakingly hand signed and numbered. It is not uncommon for these notes to have uneven, or rough borders since scissors or shears were used to hastily cut the sheets of notes apart.

2006 Proof American Silver Eagle 1 oz coin

Lot # 754 (Sale Order: 614 of 850)

2006 Proof American Silver Eagle 1 oz coin. The American Silver Eagle is considered by many to be the most beautiful coin in production today. It takes its design...more directly from one of the most popular and iconic coins in U.S. history, Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty half-dollar of 1916-1947. Lady Liberty is depicted striding confidently toward a rising sun, draped in the security of the American flag, and carrying laurel and oak branches that symbolize American civic and military power. The reverse of the coin features a new design created expressly for the American Silver Eagle by John Mercanti, the chief engraver at the U.S. Mint. It depicts a proud heraldic eagle placed directly beneath thirteen stars representing the original thirteen colonies.

Military Payment Certificate (MPC) Series 481 10c Grades vf+

Lot # 767 (Sale Order: 624 of 850)

Military Payment Certificate (MPC) Series 481 10c Grades vf+. Military payment certificates, or MPC, were a form of currency used to pay U.S. military personnel in...more certain foreign countries. They were used in one area or another from a few months after the end of World War II until a few months after the end of U.S. participation in the Vietnam War – from 1946 until 1973. MPC utilized layers of line lithography to create colorful banknotes that could be produced cheaply. Fifteen series of MPCs were created. However, only 13 series were issued. The remaining two were largely destroyed, although some examples remain. Among the 13 released series a total of 94 notes are recognized.
