***Auction Highlight*** 1860 Herschel Johnson, Stephen A. Douglas Presidential ferrotype campaign Gr

Lot # 876 (Sale Order: 708 of 850)

***Auction Highlight*** 1860 Herschel Johnson, Stephen A. Douglas Presidential ferrotype campaign Graded au55 By SEGS. HIGHLIGHT of THE AUCTION - Up for Auction is...more Campaign ferrotype for the 1860 Northern Democratic party, featuring the ticket of Stephen A. Douglass for President and Herschel V. Johnson for Vice President. Circular ferrotypes of the two are mounted in solid brass, with Douglass appearing on one side and Johnson appearing on the other. holed as made. Both images are in near Pristine condition, very rare!. Additionally the case itself is in near Gem condition, with Luster still present. Far and away the nicest example I have ever seen. The portraits used were photographed by Matthew Brady! Measures 1'' in diameter. The Lincoln/Douglass debates are a cornerstone of American history and modern debate! I wish you great Luck in obtaining this 2nd rarest of the 4 Circular Ferrotypes of 1860. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** PMG 1861 $5 Demand Note FR-1 New York, NY Alexander Hamilton Graded vf20 B

Lot # 879 (Sale Order: 711 of 850)

***Auction Highlight*** PMG 1861 $5 Demand Note FR-1 New York, NY Alexander Hamilton Graded vf20 By PMG. Only about 100 Still In Existance Offered is a worthy example of ...moreone our nation's first "Greenbacks." This 1861 $5 Demand Note was produced by the American Bank Note Company using a patented steel plate process developed over decades of producing bank notes for state chartered banks. The statue pictured at left on the face is Freedom, by Thomas Crawford, which sits atop the United States Capitol. Founding father Alexander Hamilton is portrayed in the bottom right corner on the face. These Demand Notes were the first widely circulated, federally issued notes since the Continental Currency notes of the late 18th century. Each example is hand signed by two Treasury officials for the register of the Treasury and treasurer of the United States. The Act of July 17, 1861, amended on August 5, authorized a new $250 million loan, comprising mostly Interest-Bearing Notes and bonds, but also including $50 million in currency to be known as Demand Notes, a new series. In contrast to Interest-Bearing Notes, Demand Notes were made in lower denominations for widespread popular distribution. As these bore no interest they were in effect a free loan to the government. The $5 (as here), $10, and $20 values gave them wide appeal.Plates were engraved and notes were printed by the American Bank Note Company in New York City under a contract signed on July 25, 1861. The Act of August 5, 1861, added details, including convertibility, if desired by the holder, of the Demand Notes into long-term bonds paying 6% annual interest. The backs of Demand Notes were printed in green ink, quickly giving rise to the term greenback, although this was more widely applied to the later Legal Tender Notes issued in far greater quantities. Today in popular parlance, green is the "color of money." The Demand Notes do not bear the Treasury Seal, as there was no requirement for this in the amended legislation of August 5, 1861.The first Demand Notes were paid out in August 1861 and used to pay government salaries in Washington. Soon thereafter, notes were given to Union soldiers, defense contractors, and others to whom the government was obligated. This form of payment was not welcomed by the recipients, who preferred "hard money" in the form of coins. At the time silver and gold coins were readily available, a situation that would continue until late December when gold coins began to be hoarded and could be purchased only at a premium, followed by the disappearance of silver coins in the late spring of 1862.

***Auction Highlight*** 1925 Fort Vancouver Old Commem Half Dollar Near Top POP! 50c Graded ms67+ By

Lot # 884 (Sale Order: 716 of 850)

***Auction Highlight*** 1925 Fort Vancouver Near Top POP! Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms67+ By SEGS. One of the four different commemorative coins issued during th...moree year was the 1925 Fort Vancouver Centennial Half Dollar. This coin featured designs by Portland, Oregon artist Sidney Bell, which were modeled by Laura Gardin Fraser. The occasion commemorated was the 100th anniversary of the founding Fort Vancouver, Washington. This outpost had served as a trading center for settlers and Native Americans within the territory. The coins were issued as part of a week long local celebration and sold for $1 each.Dr. John McLoughlin is depicted on the obverse of the coin. He had established Fort Vancouver on the Columbia River in 1825 and later went on to found Oregon City. The reverse of the Fort Vancouver Half Dollar portrays a pioneer holding a musket with the Fort and a mountain peak in the background. Authorized production was set at 300,000, which proved far too optimistic. A quantity of 50,000 coins was struck at the San Francisco Mint (although the coins did not carry the “S” mint mark) and after unsold coins were returned for melting, net distribution was a paltry 14,994 coins. These shotgun rolls are all from a new consignee. They are all frrom one Estate. This particular Roll shows a 1909-s on one end and a VDB reverse on the other end

***Auction Highlight*** 1801 Draped Bust $10 Gold Eagle BD-2 Graded ms62 details By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 890 (Sale Order: 721 of 850)

***Auction Highlight*** 1801 BD-2 Draped Bust $10 Gold Eagle Graded ms62 details By SEGS. Up fo auction is a super 1801 $10 Draped Bust Gold Eagle. Later obverse ...moredie state, with "spines" in the cap. The 1801 BD-2 early eagle is a popular variety. The present MS62 details example is reflective and somewhat proof like, showing a few light, insignificant marks that constitute the grade. Some very faint hairlines on the obverse are the only possible reason for the details designation, and I can easily see it in a straight ms62 holder. The strike is quite sharp overall, save for minor weakness on the fletching's and left shield border at the lower reverse. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
