Series 1934A $5 Federal Reserve Note WWII Emergency Currency Hawaii Grades vf, very fine

Lot # 297 (Sale Order: 276 of 730)

Series 1934A $5 Federal Reserve Note WWII Emergency Currency Hawaii Grades vf, very fine. Out of about 65 Million Hawaii Notes Printed in all Denominations Only ab...moreout 7% of them were $5 that makes the $5 Hawaii The lowest Mintaged Hawaii In the series and makes it the key date for the series.1934a $5 Silver Certificate Hawaii, Signatures of Julian & Morgenthau. It was the darkest days of World War II, just after Pearl Harbor. Everybody in Hawaii was sitting on pins and needles. Were the Japanese preparing a massive invasion of the islands? If they did invade, they could use the millions of dollars in currency on the islands to buy war material. To thwart this, these $5 Federal Reserve Notes were sent to the islands. Each has a large HAWAII printed on the reverse. If the Japanese did invade, the currency would be demonetized. After the threat passed, most of these "Hawaii" Notes were destroyed. Today they're hard to find.

***Auction Highlight*** 1902 Indian Cent 1c Graded GEM++ RD By USCG (fc)

Lot # 302 (Sale Order: 281 of 730)

***Auction Highlight*** 1902 Indian Cent 1c Graded GEM++ RD By USCG. Both sides of this incredibly vibrant orange-gold example are ablaze with satiny luster, and t...moreotally void of unsightly blemishes. Although slight weakness is noted at the tips of the Indian's feathers--typical for the issue--this example possesses an above average strike as evinced by the bold shield details and complete dentilation. This is as close to a perfect Indian cent as one is likely to find. Tied for 2nd finest known. A fleeting opportunity to purchase one of the very finest examples of this popular issue. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** Continental Currency May 10, 1775 $2 CC-2 Sig Wm. Webb Grades xf (fc)

Lot # 309 (Sale Order: 288 of 730)

***Auction Highlight*** Continental Currency May 10, 1775 $2 CC-2 Sig Wm. Webb Grades xf. As with the $1 and $3 of this issue, high-grade Two Dollar notes are extr...moreemely rare. The PMG census indicates a total of 47 Continentals graded through and including the Two Dollar denomination. With only 3 in total of all 3 denomiaons gradeing CU. An emission totaling $3,000,000 payable in Spanish milled dollars, or the equivalent in gold or silver, was authorized by the Continental Congress resolution of May 10, 1775 and approved by resolutions of June 23-24 and July 25, 1775 and put into circulation in August. The money, for "The United Colonies", was to be used to pay war expenses and was to be redeemed from taxes collected by the colonies. The paper, made at Ivy Mills in Chester County, Pennsylvania, contained blue fibers and mica flakes and was similar to the type used on Pennsylvania currency. The exception was the unique $20 denomination which was printed on paper made by Benjamin Franklin (thin white paper that had the left side polychromed by marbling). This bill is also a different size from the other denominations. The bills were printed by Hall and Sellers in Philadelphia using border cuts, emblem cuts, nature prints and hand set type. Apparently, thirty six of the borders were designed and cut by David Rittenhouse. The bills were signed with red and brown ink and numbered in dark red ink. Counterfeit detectors were on pink paper except for the $20, which was on blue paper. Denominations printed were the: $1, $2, $3, $4, $5, $6, $7, $8, $20 and $30.

***Auction Highlight*** 1886-o Morgan Dollar $1 Graded Select Unc By USCG (fc)

Lot # 313 (Sale Order: 292 of 730)

***Auction Highlight*** 1886-o Morgan Dollar $1 Graded Select Unc By USCG. Melting under the Pittman Act, and perhaps other unknown factors, make the 1886-O condit...moreionally rare. By New Orleans standards, the mintage was large -- more than 10.7 million pieces were struck, yet no appreciable Mint sewn bags have materialized during the past 60 to 70 years. In Gem or finer conditions, no other Morgan dollar issue is rarer, based on the combined certified populations at PCGS and NGC. This untoned, frosty white Mint State example of this well known condition rarity is sure to please. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away Coin

1922 Large Size $10 Gold Certificate Fr1173 Grades vf+

Lot # 321 (Sale Order: 300 of 730)

1922 Large Size $10 Gold Certificate Fr1173 Grades vf+. It is hard to believe that large size ten dollar gold certificates were only issued in 1907 and 1922. The...more United States first printed gold certificates in the early 1860s. For some reason they never printed the ten dollar denomination until 1907. 1922 was the last year of the large size gold Certificate Currnecy. In 1928 paper money was changed to the size we are accustomed to seeing today. The portrait of Alexander Hamilton was used instead of the virtually unknown Michael Hillegas. Hillegas was the first treasurer of The United States. Perhaps if Hillegas had died in a duel then he would be better remembered today. All 1922 $10 gold certificates were signed by Speelman and White. Interestingly enough, there is a small variety for the series. Some notes have smaller serial numbers than the standard numbers. The small serial number notes do command a slight premium, especially in higher grades.
