1929 $20 National Currency 'The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Missouri' Grades vf++

Lot # 79 (Sale Order: 78 of 763)

1929 $20 National Currency 'The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Missouri' Grades vf++. Series of 1929 national bank notes come in two varieties. Collectors c...moreall these type 1 and type 2 varieties. Type 1 1929 $20 national bank notes have a serial number that ends with the letter A. Type 2 1929 $20 national bank notes have a serial number that ends with a number. The charter number is also printed in brown ink twice on type 2 1929 $20 bills. Backed by bonds deposited with the Federal Government, this kind of money says “National Currency” at the top center of the note. These notes were issued by banks who received a Charter from the United States government allowing them to issue money. The Government Printing Office printed these notes with the same design except for the name of the banks, signatures of the bank officers and the Charter number. National Currency notes were made from 1863 to 1929. These notes were a way of creating confidence in an always shaky banking system. Member banks were required to deposit bonds with the government. The bank could then issue currency equal to 90% of the amount of the bonds. The financial panic of 1929 destroyed many of the National Banks and put an end to this system. There were more than 14,000 banks that issued National Currency and there are large numbers of avid collectors. The 1929 issue was the only “small size” issue, that is to distinguish from the “horse blanket” size notes of years previous to 1929.

***Auction Highlight*** Continental Currency Febuary 26th, 1777 $7 Fr-CC60 Baltamore Issue Sig. R. S

Lot # 85 (Sale Order: 84 of 763)

***Auction Highlight*** Continental Currency Febuary 26th, 1777 $7 Fr-CC60 Baltamore Issue Sig. R. Smith Grades AU, Almost Unc. The printing and wide margins make ...morethis a perfect type note to represent the "at Baltimore" resolution. The emblem and nature print details are exemplary. A contemporary penned name is discreetly placed on the back. An emission of $5,000,000 payable in Spanish milled dollars, or the equivalent in gold or silver, was authorized by the Continental Congress then meeting in Baltimore because Philadelphia was occupied by British troops. The location of the printers, Hall and Sellers, which had been mentioned on previous issues was left off of this and all subsequent Continental Congress issues. Although this emission is known as the Baltimore issue Newman suspects the bills could have been partly or entirely printed in Philadelphia. This was the last issue to use the phrase "The United Colonies." The paper, made at Ivy Mills in Chester County, Pennsylvania, contained blue fibers and mica flakes. Detector bills were printed on blue paper. Denominations printed were: $2, $3, $4, $5, $6, $7, $8, $30.

***Auction Highlight*** 1879-o Morgan Dollar $1 Graded Choice Unc DMPL By USCG (fc)

Lot # 98 (Sale Order: 97 of 763)

***Auction Highlight*** 1879-o Morgan Dollar $1 Graded Choice Unc DMPL By USCG. The 1879-O is a well-known strike and condition rarity among early Morgans. Its sca...morercity is not as widely known as a Deep Mirror Proof like. Relatively few are known, especially in such a high grade as MS64. This fully struck example has remarkably deep mirrors in the fields and thick mint frost over the devices. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** Continental Currency May 9th, 1776 $8 Fr-CC38 Sig. Adm. Hubley & Jon. Evans

Lot # 99 (Sale Order: 98 of 763)

***Auction Highlight*** Continental Currency May 9th, 1776 $8 Fr-CC38 Sig. Adm. Hubley & Jon. Evans Grades Select CU. A beautiful May 9, 1776 Resolution $8 note. T...morehe emblem shows a harp with 13 strings of different sizes to represent the colonies; the motto is MAJORA MINORIBUS CONSONANT (The large colonies and the small colonies are in harmony). The face margins are wide and even, the corners are razor sharp, and the printing is strong. The back is visually stunning, with an impressively detailed nature printing and border frame. Although shifted slightly to the left, there is a considerable margin seen all around. An emission totaling $5,000,000 payable in Spanish milled dollars, or the equivalent in gold or silver, was authorized by the Continental Congress resolutions of May 9th and 27th, 1776. The issue is similar to that of the November 29, 1775 issue except for the bottom border of the front of the $4 reads from left to right toward the bottom of the note, whereas in all other issues it looks upside down and reads toward the center of the bill. Printed by Hall and Sellers in Philadelphia. The paper, made at Ivy Mills in Chester County, Pennsylvania, contained blue fibers and mica flakes. Detector bills were printed on blue paper. Denominations include the: $1, $2, $3, $4, $5, $6, $7 and $8.

Lot # 100 (Sale Order: 99 of 763)

***Auction Highlight*** 1803 Sm Date, Lg Frac S-260 Draped Bust Large Cent 1c Graded Select AU By USCG. This is a lovely near-Mint representative of the type and v...moreariety that is worthy of a premium bid. Nicely toned in dominant golden-brown, swirls of bolder deep copper patina are scattered about, especially around the reverse periphery. Uniformly well defined from a nicely executed strike. The surfaces are satiny in texture and overall smooth. Faint traces of faded pinkish-red luster can be seen on both sides, adding to the eye appeal. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin
