Group of 2 United States Mint Proof Sets 1979-1980 12 coins

Lot # 2436 (Sale Order: 34 of 1910)

Group of 2 United States Mint Proof Sets 1979-1980 12 coins. Group of 2 United States Proof Sets 1979-1980 12 coins. Each Set contains 6 coins Lincoln Cent, Jeffer...moreson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, Kennedy Half Dollar, and Susan B. Anthony Dollar. All coins were minted at the San Francisco mint and carried the “S” mint mark. The proof coins are commonly found with attractive black and white deep cameo finishes. The packaging for the Proof Set was changed from the prior year. The primary plastic holder was smaller in size and the coins were no longer sealed in separate compartments. The coins were placed within slots of an internal red plastic piece, which was sealed between two clear plastic pieces. A black plastic sleeve slid over the plastic holder and could serve as a stand. The outer cardboard box was also changed. It had a single opening at the top for the main holder to slide into.

1953 $5 Blue Seal Silver Certificate Grades vf++

Lot # 2455 (Sale Order: 50 of 1910)

1953 $5 Blue Seal Silver Certificate Grades vf++. The year 1953 was the last year that the US printed the five dollar silver certificates. These bills were printed...more in three different years, so there were three different series: 1953, 1953A, and 1953B,. The 1953 $5 silver certificate looks very similar to the earlier 1934 issues except that the “5” on the left hand side of the note is in blue, and the seal on the right hand side is smaller. Once redeemable for silver coin or bullion, these notes and the redemption option were discontinued by Act of Congress in 1963. Silver Certificates, with their distinctive blue Treasury seals and serial numbers, are among the most sought-after U.S. currency notes. This Series 1953A $5 Silver Certificate bears Priest-Anderson signatures.
