Lot # 428 (Sale Order: 289 of 618)

***Auction Highlight*** Full Morgan/Peace Casino Las Vegas Sands silver $1 roll $20, 1886 & 1900 end. This roll is held in an old casino wrapper from the Sands Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. This roll contains 20 Morgan and/or Peace Silver Dollars. The coins may range from circulated to uncirculated. Any condition is possible. The Dates may range from 1878 to 1935. Better dates/mint marks & conditions may be found but should not be expected. We have weighed the roll and can assure you that it is both 20 Silver Dollars and that it is not an uncirculated roll as the weight comes in slightly under the 534.60 grams that a fully uncirculated roll would weigh. We recently Acquired a huge Estate Hoard of these Rolls....more

Proof ***Auction Highlight*** 1893 Proof Barber Quarter 25c Graded pr68+ By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 430 (Sale Order: 290 of 618)

***Auction Highlight*** 1893 Proof Barber Quarter 25c Graded pr68+ By SEGS. Even though collector interest had substantially diminished by 1893 to the point that "only"...more 792 proofs were produced, a substantial percentage of that original mintage was set aside by collectors of the day. So many in fact, that certified proofs of this date now represent approximately 75% of the mintage (minus an uncertain number of resubmissions). So, it should come as no surprise that there might be a coin or two of this date that have been preserved in near-perfect condition. This is a truly breathtaking coin. As stated, the surfaces are nearly perfect. Additionally, however, the fields show illimitable depth of mirrored reflectivity that serve to lighten and brighten the rich multicolored toning on each side. Deep rose, gold & Cobalt Iridescence is seen over most of each side. The devices on each side appear to have a significant amount of mint frost, perhaps enough to warrant a Cameo designation, but in fairness to the grading services this is not immediately apparent; in fact, it is not even the second or third item of visual interest when one views this magnificent coin. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1911-d Strong D Gold Indian Quarter Eagle $2 1/2 Graded ms65+ By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 432 (Sale Order: 291 of 618)

***Auction Highlight*** 1911-d Strong D Gold Indian Quarter Eagle $2 1/2 Graded ms65+ By SEGS. The story behind the popularity of Bela Lyon Pratt's sunken relief Indi...morean Head quarter eagle series is twofold. When they were first struck in 1908, this innovative coin was met with criticism because of the recessed design and "questionable" artistic appeal. Along with the five dollar coins of the same design, the Indian head quarter eagles were the first, and to date only, coins to have this sunken relief feature. A staunch and vocal critic, Philadelphia numismatist S.H. Chapman argued that the new quarter eagles would be easily counterfeited and had a hygiene problem: germs and disease-bearing dirt would become trapped within the sunken areas. Roger W. Burdette further explains that in 1908 superintendent of the Denver Mint Frank Downer telegraphed Director of the U.S. Mint Franklin A. Leach's office with concerns about the 'stackability' of the Indian Head designs. Finally, due to the stable nature of gold prices in the early 20th century, collectors did not see the potential future value in the Indian Head series as they did in other issues. At the time, the value of quarter eagles was tied to the price of bullion, whereas copper coins, for example, could be purchased and resold for profit depending on varieties. Over time these qualms have dissipated: the hygiene problem proved inaccurate, counterfeiting proved challenging, and stackability became a non-issue. Today the popularity of the Indian Head quarter eagle series has changed dramatically. Given their small size and availability and with only 15 coins to complete the set, this issue presents an opportunity for collectors to acquire the key to this popular and otherwise completable series. With a mere 55,680 coins minted - by far the lowest in the series - the 1911-D is the crown jewel of the series. This impressive Gem features a bold strike, including, unlike many others, a sharp and complete mintmark. Both sides are highly lustrous, displaying bright yellow-gold surfaces. Without question, any collector would be proud to own this 20th century rarity. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

1918 $2 "Battleship Note" National Currency Federal Reserve Bank of New York, NY FR-751 Grades g, go

Lot # 436 (Sale Order: 295 of 618)

1918 $2 "Battleship Note" National Currency Federal Reserve Bank of New York, NY FR-751 Grades g, good. Somewhat similar to the language seen on National Bank Note...mores, the notes themselves were actually backed by bonds deposited with the United States Treasury by the individual Federal Reserve bank. Forever confusing new collectors, the top of these notes read “NATIONAL CURRENCY” but they are not what is referred to as National Bank Notes. Starting off with the main attraction to these interesting banknotes is the design on the back, with its imposing visage of the 27,000-ton USS New York dreadnought battleship. The vignette was never labeled on the note itself and was intended to be generic, but in comparing it to an image of New York it is clear the two are the same. The face of the note has a vignette of third United States President Thomas Jefferson; his first appearance on the Federal $2 bill was on the Series of 1869 Legal Tender, and he can be found there on modern $2 notes to this day.
