*HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT* 1854 Type 2 Gold Dollar $1 Graded ms65+ By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 147 (Sale Order: 104 of 618)

*HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT* 1854 Type 2 Gold Dollar $1 Graded ms65+ By SEGS. HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT : To look at this GEM is to fall instantly in love with it. We have had ...morethe pleasure of selling some amazing GEM Type 2 gold dollars in recent times, but this one has to be one of the most fabulous examples! Incredible and HIGH END! We wish this is what all Gems looked like; not just is the eye appeal fantastic, but the technical grade is spot on! Deep orange golden coloration blends with delicate rose-gold patina which is brought to the fore with a vividly brilliant mint luster that blooms boldly all over. Sharply struck, the dies were not heavily clashed when this one was made. The surfaces are wonderfully preserved and the color gives this GEM a great look. The small 12.7 mm diameter of the Type I gold dollar brought about a few complaints of it being easy to lose, like the silver trime. To address this, Longacre enlarged the diameter to 14.3 mm, but he also completely revised the design, replacing it with an Indian design with a crown of feathers resembling his design on the newly introduced three-dollar gold piece. He also moved the inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA to the obverse from the reverse. The reverse laurel wreath was replaced with the cereal wreath Longacre employed on the three-dollar denomination and that was later adopted for the Flying Eagle cent. Even with these design changes, challenges faced Mint personnel when striking the coins. Because the weight of the denomination remained unchanged, the coins were made slightly thinner. The obverse Indian head bust of Liberty was in too high a relief for the thinner planchets, and most examples displayed poor definition in and around the centers. To further complicate matters, the dies often clashed early and frequently during press runs, and many survivors exhibit numerous pronounced clash marks. Bowers estimates 90% of all 1854 Type II dollars bear such clash marks on one or both sides. These striking deficiencies prompted the third and final redesign in 1856, enlarging the bust and flattening its relief profile. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1856-p Three Dollar Gold 3 Graded ms63 By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 148 (Sale Order: 105 of 618)

***Auction Highlight*** 1856-p Three Dollar Gold 3 Graded ms63 By SEGS. Endearing Choice surfaces are fully lustrous in a softly frosted texture. Further adorned with h...moreandsome orange-gold patina, this lovely coin also sports sharp to full striking detail throughout the design. As a Philadelphia Mint issue situated near the beginning of the series, the 1856 is often regarded as one of the more readily obtainable three-dollar gold pieces in today's market. While this is true of circulated examples, the issue is actually quite scarce and underrated in Mint State, especially relative to the 1854 and 1855, and to say nothing of the 1874 or 1878. Definitely a find for the astute gold specialist. I have included another ms63 for your comparison. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1884-s Morgan Dollar $1 Graded BU+ By USCG (fc)

Lot # 149 (Sale Order: 106 of 618)

***Auction Highlight*** 1884-s Morgan Dollar $1 Graded BU+ By USCG. This is an attractive and desirable Uncirculated specimen of an eagerly sought Morgan dollar. V...moreirtually untoned with semi proof like surfaces on the obverse and frosty luster on the reverse. It is boldly to sharply struck throughout, although some weakness at the centers still is present. A very attractive appearance for the assigned grade. The 1884-S is one of the most famous condition rarities in the Morgan dollar series. Though 3.2 million pieces were struck -- a generous total for the type -- the vast majority were spent and spent again in local commerce, and today the typical grade may be EF or AU, with many survivors well below those grades. The scarcity and value of this issue increases exponentially in Mint State, where it becomes a significant challenge for advanced Morgan specialists. Clearly the present offering represents an important opportunity in today's market.

***Auction Highlight*** 1921-p Peace Dollar $1 Graded ms65+ By SEGS. A pleasingly original example of DeFrancisco's beautiful Peace dollar, the only date struck in...more high relief for circulation. Boldly lustrous with silver gray color. The centers are lightly struck, as always, this precipitating a change in the design the following year. Well preserved and with significant eye appeal, this is certainly one of the nicest we’ve sold this year. With this being the 100th Anniversary, many call this the hottest coin of the year.

Proof ***Auction Highlight*** 1876 Twenty Cent Piece 20c Graded GEM+ Proof By USCG (fc)

Lot # 151 (Sale Order: 108 of 618)

***Auction Highlight*** 1876 Twenty Cent Piece 20c Graded GEM+ Proof By USCG. 0 The Centennial year boosted both mintages and sales of proofs to a small extent, alth...moreough the demand for 1876 twenty cent proofs today are more a function of the scarcity of business strikes for the year. Opinions vary on the exact number of proofs struck for the issue: the Guide Book reports 1,150 pieces, while the Brunner and Frost reference claims 1,260 pieces were minted. In PR66 condition, it matters little since the population is scant regardless of mintage. The 1876 was the second year of issue for this short-lived series, and ended up as the final year of issue for circulation strikes. Only proofs were produced in the next two years. Without question, the key attribute of this high-end Gem twenty cent piece is its irrefutable originality. The surfaces are richly toned in blue, lavender, russet, and golden patina, yet the fields remain flashy and the devices still appear frosty in contrast. Fully detailed throughout.

*HIGHLIGHT OF ENTIRE AUCTION* 1865 FINEST KNOWN Three Cent Nickel 3cn Graded ms68 By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 159 (Sale Order: 116 of 618)

***Auction Highlight*** 1865 FINEST KNOWN Three Cent Copper Nickel 3cn Graded ms68 By SEGS. HIGHLIGHT OF THE ENTIRE AUCTION - Up for Auction is the Single Finest K...morenown 1865 3CN, the lone ms68, amongst PCGS, SEGS and NGC. Virtually pristine with outstanding visual appeal, this is a beautiful and highly desirable Superb Gem. Intensely lustrous surfaces exhibit a softly frosted finish, the texture smooth with no grade-limiting blemishes. Light clash marks around the central design elements are as made. Brilliant with a sharply executed strike, this coin would make an impressive addition to even the finest numismatic cabinet. Introduced in 1865, the nickel three-cent piece was intended to replace its silver counterpart which had been hoarded during the Civil War for its precious metal content. Yearly mintages for circulation were generous at first, but by 1871 had fallen below one million coins, and remained low through the series' end in 1889 with the exception of a temporary spike in production in 1881. With 11,382,000 pieces produced, the 1865 boasts the highest mintage in this series and its first year status makes it extremely popular among type collectors. As the absolute finest examples certified, the present Superb Gem is exceptionally well preserved and ranks at the top of the Condition Census for the issue. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1928-p St. Guadens Gold $20 Graded ms66+ By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 162 (Sale Order: 119 of 618)

***Auction Highlight*** 1928-p St. Guadens Gold $20 Graded ms66+ By SEGS. An incredible, conditionally rare example of this perennially popular 20th century U.S. g...moreold type. Sharply struck with full smooth, frosty luster, both sides also display lovely toning in vivid golden-apricot. Struck on the eve of the Great Depression, the 8,816,000 double eagles produced at the Philadelphia Mint in 1928 proved to be by far the largest mintage, and also the last readily available issue for the entire Saint-Gaudens series. A significant portion were shipped abroad in international trade while a smaller quantity were paid out domestically. The massive Treasury melts of the 1930s took their toll on the coins that remained. The coins that sat in European and South American vaults fared better with the vast majority that returned stateside beginning in the 1940s and 1950s are Uncirculated. This issue is readily available up through Gem Mint State. However, at the Superb Gem level, the numbers diminish drastically.

***Auction Highlight*** 1936 Elgin TOP POP Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms68 By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 163 (Sale Order: 120 of 618)

***Auction Highlight*** 1936 Elgin TOP POP Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms68 By SEGS. The Elgin half dollar was struck in 1936, one year after the Illinois ci...morety celebrated its centennial. The issue, however, had a broader theme of honoring the pioneers who settled the state (the year 1673, for instance, refers to the beginning of the Joliet-Marquette expedition on the Mississippi River), and it also has special significance to Americans of Norwegian descent, one of the largest ancestral groups in the upper Midwestern United States. The Elgin half dollar's sculptor and driving force, Trygve Revested, was the child of Norwegian immigrants and so well-attuned to their particular experiences. Of a starting mintage of 25,000 pieces plus assay coins, 20,000 Elgin halves were sold. This MS68 example is among the finest known examples, with jut one lone ms68+ finer. The surfaces are frosty across Overstand's inimitable pioneer portrait and the (typically softly struck) reverse group. Light silver-gray interiors yield to iridescent peripheral color that is strongest with its blues on the reverse and oranges, and yellows on the obverse. Magnificently preserved no marks worthy of individual note. The coin is sure to please even the most stringent connoisseur A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

Lot # 165 (Sale Order: 122 of 618)

*HIGHLIGHT OF ENTIIRE AUCTION** 1926 Sesqui Gold Commem $2 1/2 Graded ms67 By SEGS. HIGHLIGHT OF THE ENTIRE AUCTION – Up for Auction is a TOP POP, Tied for Finest Kno...morewn. The 1926 Sesquicentennial quarter eagle was the final commemorative gold issue prior to the modern era of gold commemoratives that began in 1984. Both the Sesquicentennial half dollars and quarter eagles were designed by John R. Sinnock, Mint chief engraver at the time. Today most certified survivors of this issue average no better than MS63. This Superb Gem is graded ms67, only one coin at PCGS, one at SEGs and 4 at NGC have earned this grade. The devices offer exquisite detail, virtually unheard-of for this often-weak issue. Hints of sparkling frost appear on the uppermost design elements. The surfaces are delightfully lustrous, primarily yellow-gold with occasional hints of peach and straw close to the margins. The preservation is magnificent, and the coin appears virtually flawless, even under close inspection. The discerning gold commemorative enthusiast would do well to consider this amazing Superb Gem. I have included two other ms67 examples. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

This amazing Superb Gem belongs in the finest collection of Carson City Mint coinage or Morgan silver dollars. Fully struck, both sides exhibit razor sharp detail to even the most intricate design elements. The surfaces display lovely mint frost and are remarkably close to pristine for a CC-Mint Morgan of any date or variety. Brilliant apart from the lightest pale silver tinting. Here is a truly remarkable quality example from a mintage of just 495,000 coins. This low mintage, combined with the popularity of Carson City coinage, has made the 1880-CC one of the most eagerly sought issues in this series. This is the sole coin graded ms67+.
