sale of historical artifacts and collectibles, many of which have been featured in numerous historical exhibitions and institutions. Headlining the sale are selections from the General Samuel Houston Collection, victor of the Battle of San Jacinto and first President of the Republic of Texas. These lots include not only artifacts from his early military career including a militia officers chapeau (Lot 72), his field desk (Lot 79), and saddle pad (Lot 77), but also the sword belt (Lot 75), silver spurs (Lot 78) and presentation saber (Lot 74) worn by Houston at San Jacinto. Another artifact from the Battle of San Jacinto, a Mexican General Officer’s Coat attributed to Santa Anna (Lot 91) comes from the collection of James Sylvester, the only color-bearer at the battle as well as the soldier credited with Santa Anna’s capture. US McKeever Cartridge Box leather shows more wear and cracking but the stitching is tight and everything is intact and hinge functions properly. Embossed "US" has faded a bit but is still legible. In fair to good condition.**

**Excellent Condition. Stirrup leather is in great shape showing some slight cracking on the back lower side but is still pliable. One of the leather straps have detached on the backside of the pole holder. Wood is solid and rivets are all present. Overall in very good to excellent condition**

M1885 US Cavalry Butler Varney Indian War Horse Hobble & Early Set of Horse Hobbles

One original set of Indian War Era US Cavalry M1885 Butler Varney Sidelines. Unlike hobbles which are made to tie up the two front legs of a horse, the sideline were designed to tie up one front leg and one back leg. This restricted the mobility of the horse while grazing. The Butler Varney sidelines had an unusual buckle fastening hook set up to make it more difficult for a horse thief to undo the sidelines. There are some individual markings cut into the leather. All the rivets, buckles, and the chain including the swivel are present and original.
One early set of Horse Hobbles with Buckles for the front legs. These are probably civilian and not military issue.
**Leather on the 1885 US Cavalry Set is very good with little to no cracking and is pliable. Early civilian set has some chipping and flaking to the leather with a few cuts or cracks around the edges, but still pliable and shows well. Overall both are in very good condition.**

Experimental 1890's US Army Blue Agate Enameled Cup and US Army Brown Enameled Canteen

1-Experimental 1890's US Army Brown enameled circular US Army canteen with black enamel US in center of canteen, complete with strap. Strap & hooks are present and strap is marked "R.I.A." and dated 1905. It has the full cork, cork ring, and chain intact and undamaged, which is usually either bent, broken, or missing some part in this area. Very colorful and would display well with a 1890's officer display
1-Experimental 1890's US Army blue agate enamel plated metal canteen with the embossed US in Center of Cup. Displays well.
**Canteen has a large dent and missing enamel on the backside and two chips on the left side of the canteen with minor chipping around the edges which is typical. Otherwise is excellent with a full cork and chain, the full strap & hooks, and the U.S. on the front is very nice. This item is excellent with Exception of the dent.**
**Canteen cup has minor chipping all around the top of the edge lip and the bottom edge which is typical of these enameled pieces. The enamel otherwise nice with plenty of coating left for display. Overall in excellent condition.**

**Canvas bag has some soiling and wear but stitching is tight and strap is intact. Leather edging has cracking and chipping but all the string hooks to tie it up are present and intact. Canister and utensils have some patina and cork is broken but present along with hook and chain. Overall a nice rare piece in very good condition for the age.**

Lot of Three M1880's/1890's Soldier's Kit Items

Stamping says Company I, 22nd Infantry Regiment, Soldier's Equipment No. 68. The army marked equipment so if it was all thrown in a pile it could be sorted out fast if serving with other regiments or companies of soldiers. Sorted by Regiment and Company, once all the items were located in a Company pile, then it could be quickly sorted as soldier with Equipment no. 68 would then pick out any and all items with No. 68 out of the Company I pile of equipment. While this model 1880 blanket bag, this is a late period 1890's which has the US stenciling which has a thinner profile to the stenciling on the flap. The early 1880's blanket bag has a stenciling where the letters of the US its fat and even size all through the letters.
**Set shows wear with some fading, soiling, and light cracking to some of the leather straps. Leather is still pliable and straps are all still present and unbroken, and the markings on both bags are still legible, one more than the other. Overall the set is in excellent condition**

M1892 US Embossed .38 Caliber 3rd Type Holster

The semi-Circular, curved stitch located on the leading edge of the body was added in many holsters beginning 1907. This feature permitted a closer, more secure fit around the trigger guard area of the revolver from resting on the bottom plug and forcing it out a very common problem as you can imagine. There were 17,000 third type .38 caliber revolver holsters manufactured at the Rock Island Arsenal.
**Holster leather has some very light cracking but leather is supple and still pliable. Rock Island Arsenal and US Marking is faded but still legible. Stitching is tight. Overall in very good condition.**
