Trade Flintlock Pistol By Ketland & Co

Lot # 501 (Sale Order: 1 of 587)      

.50 bore diameter, 8" brass barrel, NSN. Marked "London" on the top of the barrel, Also British proof marks.  Flat style lockplate marked "W. Ketland & Co". Walnut stock with brass furniture, brass escutcheon behind the tang. Correct "S" shaped flat brass sideplate. Decorated with period brass tacks.

**One side lock screw is missing. Top jaw and screw missing. The lock plate appears to be a replacement, the correct style and markings. The barrel has a nice patina. Stock has a nice untouched patina, and around all the tacks are an untouched patina.**

20 bore, 12" barrel, NSN. Bright finish with full varnished walnut stock. Brass fittings with serpentine sideplate showing screw for missing belt hook. Faceted lockplate with flat faceted and reinforced cock. Integral iron pan without fence. Lockplate marked rear of cock "TOWER". Barrel shows remnant of British proof. Conforms to Pattern Model 1800 Sea Service Pistols.

**Fair condition. Barrel and lockplate appear to have been cleaned with some tarnishing of brass. Some repairs to stock including sections of replaced wood. Action is functional. Lack of British crown marking implies this is a copy of a Pattern 1800 Sea Service Pistol likely made of real parts in the farther reaches of the empire, if not a replaced lock.**

Waters Contract US Model 1836 Conversion Pistol

.54 caliber, 8.5" barrel, NSN. Bright finish with single barrel band and walnut stock. Brass front sight. Iron fittings with captive ramrod. Cone-in-barrel ("Belgian") conversion with filed lockplate and pan. Lockplate marked in four lines forward of hammer "U.S./R. JOHNSON/MIDDN CONN/1840".

**Relic to fair condition. Barrel and metal parts have an even, dark patination with cone showing damage and a burn-though on the barrel. Stock shows some handling marks and blemishes with some faint outlines of old cartouches. Action is functional.**

.54 caliber, 8.5" barrel, NSN. Rebrowned finish with walnut stock. Brass blade front sight. Faceted and rounded lockplate with reinforced cock. Rounded brass pan with fence and bridal. Lock internals with matching "T" markings. Barrel shows "U.S./JCS/P". Counterpane with two cartouches, one "MPL" in script of Mann Lomax, and a faint "JH" of Joseph Hannis. Lockplate marked in three lines "A. WATERS/MILBURY.MS./1838" with eagle proof.

**Good condition as-is. Hammer has been replaced. Some thinning to reblued finish with some scattered needlepoint pitting. Some handling marks and blemishes to stock with a minor split on sideplate screw. Action is tight and functional. Bore with a light rust frosting.**

Lockplate marked forward of hammer "U.S./H.ASTON" with "MIDDTN/CONN.1848" to the rear. Additional inspection marks throughout. Counterpane shows "JH" and "WAT" cartouches.

**Fair condition. Barrel has a pewter patination with some old pitting and wear. May have been cleaned in the past. Other metal parts have a dull tarnished coloration. Stock shows some handling marks and blemishes with the original varnish. Half-cock safety lever is broken. Action is functional.**

14 bore, 10" barrel, NSN. Steel finish with full stock and rounded butt. German silver front sight. Iron mounts with pineapple triggerguard and German silver thumb piece. Flat faceted lockplate with swan-neck cock. Integral ovoid iron pan with bridle and roller. Lockplate marked "S. HOMER". Wood ramrod with horn tip. The Homer family is referenced in on page 34 in the "Historic pistols: The American martial flintlock, 1760-1845 Stating that Homer was born in 1731 and died in 1776 as a member of the sons of liberty in Boston Massachusetts. Homer was a political activist in his time, our consignor believes that S. Homer has direct ties to the Homer family. 

**Good condition overall. Barrel has a pewter patination with some scattered oxidation. Ramrod tip split. Stock with some handling marks and blemishes, along with some residue from old label on right side. Action functions normally. Bore has some old oxidation frosting.**

**Good condition overall. Some darkening to barrel with inlay in good condition. Some tarnishing of German silver on barrel from age with some missing inlays on stock. Half of crescent moon missing. Some handling marks and blemishes to stock with a stiff but functional action.**

15 bore, 13.5" octagonal barrel, NSN. Bright finish with walnut stock in an early form. Flat faceted lockplate with swan-neck cock and integral iron pan with fence. Stock inlaid throughout with silver wire and mother of pearl inserts. Ramrod pipes, entry pipes, thumb piece, triggerguard, buttcap, and sideplate all of German silver cast in panoplies and trophies of arms, floral motifs, and classical designs.

**Fair condition overall. Barrel has some scattered oxidation with some old pitting and wear. Some handling marks and blemishes to stock with some missing wire and pearl inserts. Stock shows some sections of replaced wood. Some darkening and old oil staining on lock. Action is stiff but functional. Bore is oxidized.**

22 bore (.60 caliber), 8" barrel, NSN. Likely English. Walnut stock secured with pins. Brass fittings including ramrod pipe, entry pies, side plates, triggerguard, and buttcap. Faceted lockplate with faceted swan-neck cock. Diminutive pan with fence; frizzen fitted with roller. Lockplate engraved "R.S. CLARK/EXTRA", along with floral themes. Barrel marked "1833". Ramrod is likely a replacement.

**Good condition overall.  Barrel has been lightly cleaned with some salt and pepper oxidation. Some additional oxidation and light pitting to lockplate. Some dulling to fittings with stock showing some scattered handling marks and blemishes. Action is functional.**

Rare Davidson & Company Percussion Pistol

.36 caliber, 9" brass barrel, 1" across the flats, barrel is rifled with five lands and grooves.  Engraved forward action percussion lock marked "T.Davidson & Co, Cincinnati". Iron breech and tang with notched rear sight and blade front sight. Brass backstrap and triggerguard.  Finely stripped curly maple stock.  Missing ramrod. 

**All brass has a nice dark untouched patina. Lock and hammer with nice even matched brown patina with sharp and crisp edges. The stock has a nice untouched dark patina. Some nicks and dings.  This pistol is completely all original and untouched. A true piece of folk art.**

.540 smoothbore, 10.5" Octagonal to round barrel, Engraved forward percussion lock marked Lemberg on one pistol and the other marked S.Pilger.  Serpent hammers, Checkered empire butt walnut stocks.  Iron engraved furniture.  Engraved Monkeys in a panel in the triggerguard. 

**The metal has been lightly cleaned with sharp and crisp engraving. Stocks with some nicks and dings. Still retains a nice dark patina.**

**Fair condition. Barrel has a mixed pewter patination with scattered salt and pepper oxidation. Barrel markings have worn away, as have stock cartouches. Sight leaves missing. Replaced barrel bands. Stock shows some handling marks and blemishes including a section of replaced wood near muzzle.**

.45-70 caliber, 22" barrel, S/N 18326. Blued barrel with case hardened action and breechblock. Refinished stock. Blade front sight with Model 1873 rear sight. Breechblock marked "MODEL/1873/[eagle over arrows]/US".  In "Custer Range" of serial numbers for 1873 carbines.

**Fair condition as-is. Barrel has a mixed dark gunmetal and blue coloration with moderate scattered oxidation frosting. Breechblock and action have a dark gunmetal patina.with scattered old pitting. Refinished stock has some minor handling marks and blemishes. Action is functional with bore being mostly bright with some old pitting and grime along with visible rifling; could clean to better. A good opportunity to restore a proper "Custer Range" carbine.**

US Model 1884 Springfield Trapdoor Rifle

.45-70 caliber, 32.75" barrel, S/N 139883. Blued finish with case hardened breechblock. Blade front sight with Buffington-type rear sight. Barrel marked with "V/P/[eagle]/P" proofmarks. Breechblock marked "US/MODEL/1884". Stock shows nice "SWP/1891" cartouche on counterpane with script "P" proof on wrist. Fitted with brass collection number disk.

**Fine condition. Nearly all of the blued finish remains with some minor thinning on muzzle and edges. Gray gunmetal coloration to breechblock. Some handling marks and blemishes to stock. Bore is bright with good rifling.**

Nepalese Gahendra Rifle

Lot # 522 (Sale Order: 22 of 587)      

.450/.577 caliber, 33.25" barrel, NSN. Blued finish with military stock retained by two barrel bands. Blade front sight with elevator rear sight. Top of receiver marked with Nepalese markings and date.

These rifles were domestically made under the direction of General Gahendra Rana. While it resembles the venerable British Martini-Henry, the internal mechanisms are quite different, and are more closely based on a Westley Richards design.

**Very good condition overall. Barrel retains its original blued finish with some thinning on edges and working parts. Stock shows some handling marks and blemishes from age and use. Action is functional with a mostly bright barrel showing visible rifling.

**Good condition overall.  Some scratching and thinning to bluing with stock showing some scattered handling blemishes and imperfections from age and use.  Action in functional with a mostly bright bore showing some old fouling.  A good example overall.**

Belgium Model 1882 Comblain Rifle

11MM caliber, 24" barrel, S/N 536, five land and groove rifling, barrel fitted for saber bayonet.  Walnut stock and forearm with brass bands and nosecap. Belgium proofs on the left flat of the barrel.  Barrel and frame with nice light brown patina.  Markings are sharp, crisp.  Bore is excellent, bright and shiny.  Stock and forearm with some light nicks and dings.  Overall, a very good example of this rare European short rifle.

No serial number on barrel, though it does appear to have a Russian proof mark. Bolt and magazine floorplate have been replaced, Izevsk arrow forward of magazine,

**Good condition overall. Some scattered oxidation and light rust frosting present with some thinning of finish on high areas. Stock has been slightly shortened and is missing the buttplate. Bore is somewhat dark with some old fouling.**
