Morning Glory Mule Deer by Nancy Glazier

Lot # 76

This signed 18" x 21" print is 121/600

"I began oil painting at eight years of age. My grandmother responded to a child's yearning and took me through the golden doors of that first art supply store. I still remember that wonderful smell. Everything seemed to shine.

Painting is the very breath of my life. I recognize it as a very precious gift from God. While I am painting, I feel complete, joyful powerful and free. While most wildlife artist's complete the entire canvas in great detail

I choose to put all the detail in the faces of the animals I paint, because my emphasis is on portraying the mood and the moment in that particular animal's life. Each animal I paint is unique."

- Nancy Glazier

In the Quiet of the Winter by Robert Lougheed

Lot # 86

This 18" x 29" signed print is # 525/950

was a Canada-born American artist who has specialized in images of the American West.

He was born and raised on a farm in Massey, Ontario, Canada. He became an illustrator for mail-order catalogues and for the Toronto Star, but studied in his spare time at the Ontario College of Art and then at the ...cole des Beaux-Arts de Montr...al. He went to New York City at the age of twenty-five as the pupil of Frank Vincent DuMond and Dean Cornwell at the Art Students League. However he continued to work as an illustrator for over 30 years and his work appeared in magazines such as National Geographic and Reader's Digest. Lougheed's work as a commercial artist included the Mobil Oil logo of the red flying horse.

He explored the American West, particularly the old Bell Ranch in New Mexico, and many of his paintings were inspired by the scenery and animals of the region. Consequently, in 1970, he was commissioned by the United States Post Office Department to design the six-cent buffalo stamp for their Wildlife Conservation Series.

Lougheed illustrated children's books such as the horse novels Mustang and San Domingo by Marguerite Henry and The Bell Ranch As I Knew It by George F. Ellis. He also illustrated books by Martha Downer Ellis, about the Bell Ranch, NM including Bell Ranch Sketches, Bell Ranch People and Places and Bell Ranch Recollections. He won multiple awards at both the National Academy of Western Art and the Cowboy Artists of America. Some of his work is in the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Robert Lougheed's interest in art extended to founding of the National Academy of Art at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame. He continued to serve as an advisor to the academy for many years. He also worked voluntarily as a teacher to many young painters. Outside of art, Lougheed was an avid tournament badminton player who won a number of regional and Connecticut state doubles titles.

Down Wind by Richard Luce

Lot # 87

This 20" x 38" signed print is # 175/975

Born and raised in Yonkers, NY this artist of Italian descent has devoted his life to portraying the history he loves. A professional artist for over 30 years, his subject matter has varied little from his primary interest, the American west. After graduating with a degree in commercial art from Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie, NY where he learned the basics of composition, color and design, he worked for a publishing co. in Manhattan as an assistant art director. During that time he started developing his artistic style while painting in the evenings. After experimenting with different subjects his love of the American West won out. He states ?When I was young the paintings I most admired were those of Frederic Remington and I still get a chill when I stand in front of one?. Painting Western subjects comes naturally to this artist. His interest and fascination with American Indians with their free roaming way of life and strong family structure has enabled him to produce paintings of unequaled excellence. He started selling his paintings in the early 70?s through the Douglas Gallery in Stamford, CT. During that time he developed quite a following which encouraged him to make the big decision to quit his job and to paint full time.
He soon started to travel the west to see it all first hand. Hiking in the back country of California, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, Montana, Alaska and Canada in all weather conditions he was able to observe nature at its best. His paintings reflect his hands on knowledge as he always strives for authenticity in his work. Many collectors have commented that his snow feels cold and his water feels wet and they can sense the different textures he paints whether they are hard stone or a soft feather.
