20JA-8 U.S. MUSKET BY SPRINGFIELD

Lot # 140 (Sale Order: 176 of 1164)      

U.S. Musket by Springfield dated 1836 with an arsenal conversion showing the nipple screwed directly into the barrel and replaced percussion hammer. The musket is .69...more caliber, 58” in total length and has a 42” barrel. The metal is good with some brown showing in mottled patina on the barrel and minor pitting with erosion. Good lock markings, the stock shows an oval cartouche. There is scattered fresh rod rust and light erosion that will mostly clean. Correct ram rod with good action, the stock is good plus with some deep scratches and mars but a full cartouche. The butt is very rusty with color rust. The type of musket used by both sides at the outset of the war. Est.: $500-$1,000. (Antique).

20JA-2 CUP HILT RAPIER CIRCA 1590-1670

Lot # 141 (Sale Order: 177 of 1164)      

Cup Hilt Rapier circa 1590-1670 with a nicely pierced cup and large quillion measuring 12” across. The original copper wire wrapped grip with undisturbed Turks head i...morendicates homogenous and matching to the period elements. The blade shows light traces of engraving but no name or maker’s mark and is most likely Italian or Southern European in origin. The piece is approximately 47” in overall length with a 40” blade showing the tip was reduced or blunted so as not to kill. The condition is good overall with light to moderate pitting on the blade, the hilt is very good with light natural aging. This is an authentic rapier that all originated together. The smooth wood stock has crisp cartouches and Department of Defense markings with the eagle inspection mark on the left side at the wrist, “8925” on the right side of the butt stock and a Circle P behind the trigger guard. The lot includes a correct period canvas sling. The butt stock ends with a checkered steel butt plate with trap containing a correct cleaning rod and stuck case remover. Colt 1851 Navy percussion revolver, .36 caliber, Serial #127927. The pistol is in good to very good overall condition with a 7 ½” octagon barrel. The four-screw, cut...more for stock pistol has gone to an even brown patina with traces of toning blue finish under the rammer. The edges are sharp and all visible serial numbers are matching, including the wedge. The barrel address and patent dates are sharp while the cylinder shows 10-20% of a lightly rolled cylinder scene. There are traces of smoky case hardening on the rammer and frame. The action works well, the nipples are intact and the stops are all hammered down. The right side of the action has the capping groove and the left side has the recoil shield cut-out. The smooth wood grips are in very good condition with small mars and compressions but an otherwise good fit and appearance. The back strap is iron and the trigger guard is brass, both have been lightly cleaned. According to Jordan, there were approximately 700 pistols produced in this configuration. Springfield U.S. Model 1873 Trapdoor saddle ring carbine, .45-70 caliber, Serial #182485*. The carbine is in fine overall condition with a 22” barrel with ramped blad...moree front and ladder style rear sights. The barrel shows traces of blue finish with the remainder going to a dark patina with areas of pinprick pitting, “V” and “P” proofs at the breech. The receiver is silver, toned case hardening with the saddle ring retained and crisp markings, including serial number with star suffix indicating arsenal re-finish and reissue during the period of the Indian Wars circa 1881-1882 using some early parts. The side plate and breech block are both marked 1873. The smooth wood stock is in very good condition with pressure bruising and mars. The butt stock ends with a crescent steel butt plate with trap and an original segmented cleaning rod and shell extractor. 20HW-17 KRAG 'PARKHURST'

U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen bolt action rifle with the Parkhurst loading device, .30-40 Krag caliber, Serial #289162. The rifle is in very good...more to nearly fine overall condition with a 30” barrel with light pinprick pitting at the muzzle having gone to an even brown patina. The rifle incorporates the experimental Parkhurst loading device and is one of approximately 100 rifles and carbines tested by the Ordnance Department with the device. The devices were tested between 1899 and 1902 with firearms within the 288,000-290,000 serial number range. Edward G. Parkhurst developed the device in 1898 in order to allow for faster reloading, competing with the charger loading 1893 Mauser rifle. Initial trials by the Army found testers could easily fire more than 20 aimed rounds in 60 seconds. The project was cancelled in 1903 with the pending adoption of the new, 1903 Springfield rifle. The bore is fair, the action functions and the markings are sharp on this rare, one of a hundred Krag. Est.: $1,400-$2,800. (C+R).

Colt SAA 2nd Generation Revolver in .45 Colt caliber with a 7 ½” barrel, blue and case colored, and screw less oversized 1 piece wood grips purchased in Hollywood late...more 1950s and movie and television used by tradition, S/N 13615SA. 80%-90% original blue and case colors with loss of finish from holstering and handling. Sound action and excellent bore. The grips are like the ones on this Colt have been on several television series guns of the 50s and 60s whereas the studios were creating the old western look. Arvo Ojalla and Stembridge Gun Arsenal were known to install this type grip on 2nd generations for “Gunsmoke” and other classics. Estate consigned. A few scratches from fumbling fast draw. E.A. Prescott brass frame, .31 caliber percussion revolver with a 4 ¼” octagon barrel. The pistol is one of only 109 estimated to have been produced circa 1860-1861,...more refer Flayderman’s 7A-082 where the pistol is described as “very rare” and seldom seen. The pistol is in NRA fair condition with only patina finish showing light to moderate pitting and erosion. The action is not working, the grips are worn with marks from tack hammering horseshoe nails at bottom. The pistol shows good, untouched patina in “As Found” condition with no cleaning and only a replacement grip screw added. Est.: $350-$700 (Antique).
