Sharps Model 1874 Sporting rifle, .40 caliber 2-5/8” case, double set triggers (working at time of description), period Davenport 30” heavy octagon barrel (approximate...morely 16 pounds in weight), brown patina, wood stocks, S/N C54001, formerly from the famous Bill Gary Collection (sold by Little John’s in 2014) with factory letter indicating this gun was invoiced to Captain John Mix of the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Laramie, WY on May 6, 1875. Additionally, there is a second 1993-dated letter from Dr. Moore to the late Mr. Gary indicating that Davenport barrels were used by the likes of Walter Cooper and other dealers when a barrel needed changing. Dr. Moore’s letter confirms the identity and placement of the markings. Additionally in the letter from Dr. Moore concerning the Sharps records, it is mentioned that Captain Mix was an Army Officer stationed in several places throughout the West and Northwest and received a dealers discount on many Sporting Rifles that he ordered during the 1870’s. He was apparently selling these to fellow officers or to Western stores not having a

R. Davis & Co., Cattle Breeders of Cheyenne, Wyoming Territory; the letter further states that “the Davis firm was acting as a straw buyer for the Freud brothers and/or F.A. Damman, gun dealers in Cheyenne, who at the time were experiencing financial problems, either individually or jointly, and had exhausted their credit with the Sharps Rifle Company. Several of the guns in this order are known today to be Freund-type conversions or bear the barrel stamp of the Freund brothers” (this gun does show such markings on the base of the front blade sight: “Freund’s Patent/April 17, 1877” and has a modified un-marked rear sight); overall good to very good condition with plum brown patina to barrel and traces of original case colors with some spots of silver tone on receiver; crisp action, good markings and overall good

The pistol measures 11 ¾” overall with a 5 5/8”...more heavy brass barrel showing large rings at the center and muzzle flaring to 1 ½” across mouth to outside edges of very thick barrel. Plain brass mounts. Style of 1780-1810 era. Would clean with a few small losses. Very good plus condition and lock works well. Original flintlock with correct small parts. Winchester Model 101 Diamond Grade Over/Under skeet shotgun, 20 gauge, Serial #DO279287E. The shotgun is in fine overall condition with 27 ½” ported barrels with a fu...morell-length ventilated rib and ivory bead sights. The barrels are marked for 2 ¾” shells and made in Japan. The barrels retain nearly all of their blue finish and are choked Skeet and Skeet. The receiver is coin finished in the white with 60%-70% engraving and a diamond in the middle. The finely checkered wood stock is in very good condition with a high gloss finish showing little use. The butt stock ends with a solid rubber pad providing a 14 ½” LOP to a single gold trigger. The lot includes a Diamond Grade marked Winchester luggage case. Est.: $1,400-$2,800. (Modern).

Metropolitan Navy Revolver in .36 caliber percussion revolver script inscribed “Lt. J.F. Cheney, Co. C 3rd Reg’t, Gov. Vol Inf”, S/N 2849. This revolver was found in a...more family collection in Northern California along with the August Machine Works Confederate Navy sold at lot 210 Little John’s Auction June 2nd, 2019. The consignor had not wanted to part with this pistol at the time of last sale date but is now forced to sell due to medical emergency in the family. The pistol shows a dark uncleaned patina with some pitting, erosion and honest hard battle use. The grips are silver “spangle” inlaid during the period. The straps show a dark patina and the engraving is old and of the period in our opinion. Note: consignor will supply successful buyer an affidavit that this pistol accompanied the August Machine Works confederate navy when he purchased the two pistols. (Antique) Est.: $4000-$8000

Farnsworth; .40 caliber, 2-5/8” case, 30” oct...moreagon barrel, double set triggers (in need of adjustment at time of description), weathered wood stocks, S/N 160751; overall good condition with an even dark brown patina of barrel and receiver with receiver showing some traces of original case colors under the hammer and scattered silver toning; crisp action, good markings and very good bore; butt stock shows classic weathering from carry and exposure to elements; wear to forend and an old pin repair to a crack approximately 4” from the rear right side of the forend. Accompanied by a factory letter noting this rifle was invoiced at the Bridgeport factory on October 23, 1877, to A. W. Gray of Great Bend, Kansas; features are confirmed and weight of gun placed at 11 pounds, 6 ounces. The letter further states that Gray was a dealer in hardware, stoves and agricultural equipment. Historic Winchester Model 1894 lever action SRC, S/N 907683, belonging to noted Western soldier and lawman Thomas Rynning with copy of a March 3, 1965 Affidavit from h...moreis grandson indicating this carbine, by serial number, was purchased, owned and used by his grandfather, Thomas Rynning. This gun was previously in the famous Charlie Schreiner/Y.O. Ranch collection and was previously sold under the auspices of Little John’s many years ago to our consignor. The Affidavit also provides information on Rynning that includes “Thomas Rynning was a Captain in the Arizona Rangers. He carried this carbine as a ‘saddle gun’ while a member of the Arizona Rangers”. The document also notes that as a youth, Tom worked on cattle drives in the area of Dodge City and when old enough, joined the U.S. Cavalry, being involved in active combat against the Apache Indians in addition to joining and serving in the Spanish-American War with Teddy Roosevelt and the “Rough Riders” including his participation in the battle for San Juan Hill, Cuba. 19KP-5 1851 NAVY 1ST MODEL

Ultra-rare Colt 1851 1st Model U.S. marked Navy with wedge over screw variation, S/N 572. Only a handful of U.S. marked 1st model navies exist and are second in rarity...more only to a “W.A.T.” marked Texas Paterson in the percussion era. These navies may have been intended for the use by the revenue service abroad revenue cutters. We have only seen 3 in nearly 50 years and Colt experts theorize about 10-20 or less known, and possibly as few as 50 made. The 1st model Navy is rarely encountered but the martial marked specimens are exceedingly rare. This revolver remains in good condition showing some cleaning, minor restorations, light recoloring and enlargement of the cylinder stops during the period of use. The barrel address and frame markings are well defined and clear with sharp U.S. The front sight is period change to a blade and post type. The grips are good with some wear, minor imperfections and staining at the left bottom of grip.
