19IX-1 WILLIAM EVANS DBL RIFLE #16328

Lot # 344 (Sale Order: 351 of 1574)      

Williams Evans side by side double rifle, .375 Flanged Magnum caliber, Serial #16328. The rifle is in very good overall condition with 26” barrels with a filed quarte...morer rib with two folding and one standing express sights. The front sight is marked, “THE TURNOVER SIGHT”. The sight flips from a standard blade to an ivory night sight. The chopper lump barrels retain nearly all of their blue finish with light handling marks. The receiver has gone to silver toned case hardening with 70%-80% coverage scroll engraving, bushed strikers, doll’s head fastener and double triggers. The finely checkered wood stock is in very good condition with beautiful figure in the butt stock, pistol grip and a beaded cheek piece. The butt stock ends with a leather covered recoil pad providing a 15 ½” LOP to the front trigger. The bores are good and the action is tight on face. The barrel address reads, “WILLIAM EVANS 63 PALL MALL. ST. JAMES. LONDON.” This is a first rate pre-war English double in the desirable rimmed .375 H&H by a famous London gun maker.

Desirable Colt First Model Dragoon percussion revolver with scarce “U.S. Dragoons” cylinder scene, .44 caliber, 7.5” barrel, even dark patina to metal surfaces, consi...morederable areas of silver wash to trigger guard and back strap, wood grips, S/N 7962 (all matching except barrel wedge which is un-numbered); overall good to very good condition with majority of cylinder scene remaining, crisp action, sharp markings, grips are good with wear from carry, some minor old mars which is to be expected and a small old loss to the bottom front toe of the left side of the grip. Accompanying this First Model Dragoon is a typewritten letter covering information on it and noting it was previously in the Romaine Fielding Collection and purchased from legendary arms collector and dealer, Theodore Dexter, on October 4, 1963 by consignor’s father-in-law, Dr. Robert Dalrymple. Winchester Model 1885 Low Wall rifle with ownership documented to “May Lillie” wife of Pawnee Bill and famous Wild West show performer and trick shot in the tradition ...moreof Annie Oakley who she competed with and preformed with in Buffalo Bill and Pawnee Bill shows. 24” octagon barrel in .32 rimfire caliber, S/N 18657. A period engraved silver plaque is affixed to center left of buttstock inscribed “Pawnee Bill, Historic Wild West, To Miss, May Lillie, My Straight Shooter, G.W.L.” (Gordon W. Lillie). A letter dated June 16, 1946 and signed Dr. Christian Meyers accompanies the lot and explains the gifting of this rifle to his father who had attended to May Lillie after a 1936 car wreck. Also a Swords Bros. (Photographers York, PA) carte of Lillie and Pawnee Bill is included with a studded and personalized vintage traveling box and an 1896 show banner, ladies gloves, signed playing card, key with stamped I.D. tag reading “May Lillie, B.B.W.W.S.”. This rifle is in good condition overall. A museum quality display devoted to the #2 lady shooter and performer

Winchester Model 1873 Semi-Deluxe Special order rifle in .32-20 caliber with a 24” octagon barrel, full mag, case hardened frame, and select stocks, S/N 103488A made i...moren 1883. The barrel and magazine tube retain 90%-95% plus bright original blue with minor scratches and slight loses at edge. Sharp and crisp barrel address. The frame shows 50%-70% case colors with some very colorful rainbow hues. Minor erosion and aging on the front left side of the frame and edge of the side plate. The dust cover shows 90% plus bright original blue. The hammer, lever and bolt show generous amounts of case color. The loading gate shows 95% plus bright fire blue. The action is tight and the bore is excellent. The select stock shows a slight (Probably 1X) grain and are near excellent with just minor imperfections and a few bumps. The stocks fit metal impeccably. A very nice case colored 1873 which is desirable to collectors. (Antique) Est.: $5,000-$10,000

Hi art European Musket in German style circa Mid-18th century probably made for a royal cabinet of arms or nobility. The gun measures 49 ¼” overall and 35” barrel of ....more60 caliber smoothbore. The gun shows fine high relief chiseling on the barrel, lock and mounts. The backgrounds are hammered gold inlaid. The chiseling shows stags, scrolls, florals and dogs in hunting motifs. The lock is scalloped around the edges. The stock is relief carved and the wrist is checkered with wonderful border molding checkered with wonderful border molding of best quality. The lock is original flintlock with correct small parts. The arm is in excellent as museum quality cleaned to bright condition with sharp metal surfaces and pristine chiseling with sharp edges. The rear of the barrel shows 9 ½” of great chiseling from tang forward. A master’s work fit for royalty. (Antique) Est.: $12,500-$25,000

SUMLS-277 SHIELD

Finely and fully engraved parade shield in Italian style of 16th-17th century. 6 very well and detailed center panels of knights and ancient warriors wearing armor wit...moreh swords and weapons. 3 beasts around edge one with tongue sticking out in contempt. Deep cut floral engraving bordering rim. Shows lamination and forging by armourer with proper rivets and forging. The center spike is missing and some flaws to metal from age or use. A few 19th century masters could make this quality armour at a very high price. Several experts disagree as to the age of this piece but all agree it would cost tens of thousands to replicate and is over 100 years old. Measures 23 ¼” across center and weighs approximately 7 lbs. Brought to America in approximately 1900 by the family of Dr. Leon A Dale and obtained from his estate. Note: Signature or date at the top of one panel which we cannot decipher. This revolver retains ...more 90%-95% original bright blue with most case colors on hammer and lever only slightly muted. The cylinder pin and small parts show bright original colors. The box is very good plus to almost fine showing some slight wear at contact points. Excellent flask, mold, root tool with brilliant blue and rod and cap tin. Accompanied by two factory letters, one dated Nov. 26, 1976, the other dated March 17, 1988, both signed by Dr. R.L. Moore, confirming the above-noted features and indication the weight of the gun was 11 lbs. 14 oz. with a list price of $42 having been invoiced on December 28, 1876, to Sharps General Agent, E.S. 19IS-1 WJ JEFFREY DOUBLE RIFLE #3834

Lot # 368 (Sale Order: 375 of 1574)      

W. J. Jeffery box lock double rifle, .450 #2 Nitro caliber, Serial #16248. The rifle is in very good overall condition with 26” chopper lump barrels with a full-lengt...moreh filed rib and one standing, four folding leaf express sights. The barrels have been re-blacked during the period of use with light pin prick pitting and a faint, but legible desirable barrel of address of 13 King Street, London. The barrels are marked Krupp Steel, 80 grains of Cordite, 480 grain bullet and are serialized to the action. The rifle includes a 2nd set of modern, Krupp steel barrels which were re-chambered from .458 Winchester Magnum. The 2nd set are also 26” in length, feature a filed quarter rib with a single standing sight and are in very good condition. Both sets of barrels have good bores and are tight on face. The scalloped receiver, features bushed strikers and has gone to grey toned case hardening with ornate scroll engraving with ribbons providing 90% coverage. The finely checkered wood stock is in very good condition with an Anson and Deeley fore end
