20IX-1 REMINGTON 1890

Lot # 338 (Sale Order: 426 of 1779)

Remington Model 1890 SA revolver in .44-40 caliber, 7 ½” barrel, retaining the majority of its original and scarce blue finish with hard rubber grips, Serial #1812. T...morehere is loss of finish due to flaking with impeccable and crisp metal surfaces. Razor sharp markings and address with most original case colors and the hammer and loading gate. The bright bore with blue still showing on the front of the cylinder and inside of the chambers showing little to almost no use. The grips are very good plus and would have been fine except for a chip from the bottom right and loss of color fading to natural Gutta Percha. The front sight has been slimmed very slightly at the top edge. A strong 8 ½ to 9 on a scale of 1-10 and very difficult to improve on a blued, Frontier Remington revolver. Est.: $9,000-$18,000. 20JM-1 COLT DRAGOON #7

Lot # 340 (Sale Order: 428 of 1779)

Only Known Engraved and Gold-Inlaid Colt London 3rd Model Dragoon in .44 caliber percussion revolver, 7.5" barrel, S/N 7, originally engraved and gold inlaid. This pa...morerticular Colt is the only known gold inlaid London Dragoon and was likely a display model used by Samuel Colt for promotional purposes. The left side of the barrel lug depicts a centaur shooting a Colt Dragoon and a British lion also shooting the same on the right side. The balance of the Colt is engraved in light scroll motif. This pistol shows all matching numbers with a dark patina and some light-to-moderate erosion and minor pitting. The markings are light, but visible. The grips have been lightly refreshed, but fit well and are full dimensions with a lovely burl grain. The edges are still fairly sharp. The aging is consistent with a damp climate and lack of oiling. Any original percussion Colt with gold inlay is rare, but a Dragoon is exceptionally rare and this is the only original gold inlaid Dragoon currently known in private hands. It is illustrated in full
