Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.

Our Assessment: This is a Browning Model 71 lever action rifle with a 20” barrel chambered in .348 Winchester. The original Model 71 was an improvement on the Model 1886, the designation Winchester gave when they simplified the options offered and consolidated the caliber offerings to just .348 Winchester. The .348 was a new cartridge developed to be a one-shot-does-all, replacing all of the chamberings of the 1886 from .33 to .405. It was most popular with hunters in Canada and Alaska, as it could be used to take down elk and moose as well as dealing with any brown bears which wanted to contest the hunter’s claim to their kill.

The rifle is a faithful reproduction of the Winchester Model 71, chambered in the original cartridge and made in 1987 as part of a limited edition run with only 4,000 made in Grade I. This rifle is in about Excellent condition with 98% of its metal finish remaining, a good bore, and minor marks in the wood. It comes equipped with factory iron sights and a Williams peep aperture attached to the receiver. This rifle would still make a great hunting gun today, and, in its high condition, it would also make a great addition to a Browning or lever-action collection. Please see our photos and good luck!

Caliber: 8x58mmR Danish

Action Type: Single shot rolling block rifle with extractor.

Markings: The right side of the receiver is marked with a crown over “C” and, “1871. The left side of the receiver is marked, “712”. The top of the barrel is marked with a crown over “C” and, “J.B G.M.”. All serialized parts are matching.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The sporterized stock is a two piece wood set with a barrel mounted sling loop, finger grooves, through bolt, straight wrist, straight comb, sling loop, and semi-crescent buttplate. The stock disk has been removed and the cutout filled in. There are scratches and pressure dents throughout. There is a crack at the rear sling loop. There are small chips throughput. The LOP measures 13 3/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Good overall condition as an antique. This stock set is refinished.

Type of Finish: Case Color, Blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling well sharp. There is little to no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10 for an antique.

Most antique firearms have bores that will show erosion. This is not only due to age but also to the use of black powder. When fired, black powder reacts corrosively. NRA Antique Firearm Conditions Standards are quite lenient for bores. In some cases, the NRA standards disregarded the bore’s condition for collector’s firearms.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 70% of its metal finish. The barrel has only light wear marks and thinning throughout. The receiver retains about 20% of its case color. The action has light wear with thick grease throughout. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition for an Antique.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.

Our Assessment: This Swedish Carl Gustafs M1867/89, chambered in 8x58mmR Danish, is a remarkable example of 19th-century Scandinavian military firearm evolution, blending robust design, precision manufacturing, and extended service life. Originally manufactured in 1871 at the Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori, this rifle began life as a Model 1867 rolling block, a design inspired by Remington and adopted widely across Europe for its simple, strong, and reliable action. In 1895, the rifle was arsenal reworked to the M1867/89 pattern, rebarreled and rechambered for the smokeless 8x58mmR Danish cartridge, significantly increasing its performance and prolonging its military relevance well into the early 20th century. This particular example, though sporterized, retains matching serial numbers throughout. This rifle’s 33-inch barrel provides excellent ballistic performance, especially in conjunction with the powerful 8x58mmR cartridge. While the stock has been sporterized and refinished—evident in the removal and fill-in of the stock disk and a crack near the rear sling loop—it remains structurally sound and features classic characteristics like finger grooves, a through bolt, and semi-crescent steel buttplate. The metal finish retains about 70% of its bluing, and the receiver still shows traces of case coloring, a rare find on a rifle of this age. Most impressively, the bore is exceptionally well-preserved, bright with sharp rifling and little to no erosion, which is uncommon for a black powder-era antique. The mechanics are sound, and the action remains crisp and functional, aided by the simplicity and durability of the rolling block design.

For collectors, black powder cartridge enthusiasts, or fans of Scandinavian military arms, this Carl Gustafs M1867/89 represents a superb piece of transitional firearms history. It showcases the period when militaries sought to modernize existing platforms to smokeless powder standards, rather than adopt entirely new systems. The fact that this rifle remains in such strong mechanical and cosmetic condition, with a near-pristine bore and matching serialized parts, makes it a valuable and highly shootable antique. Whether for display, historical study, or careful range use, this is an excellent example of Swedish craftsmanship and military ingenuity from the black powder era into the smokeless age.

The engraved magazine plate and trigger guard remain crisp and well-defined. The checkering on the stock has softened, but remains intact. The front sight hood is missing. The screw heads are sharp, and the markings are clear and well-defined. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good to Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The bolt operates smoothly, the trigger is crisp, and the safety functions as intended. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: The Browning Safari was one of the highest-quality sporting rifles produced by Browning, built using FN Mauser actions before 1969. These rifles were hand-fitted, beautifully finished, and are still highly sought after by collectors and hunters alike.

This particular 1964 Safari is chambered in .264 Winchester Magnum, a high-velocity, flat-shooting cartridge known for its long-range performance and excellent ballistic characteristics. The rifle has undergone some modifications, including a fiber optic front sight, refinished stock, and an added Redfield "TV" 2x-7x scope. The checkering has softened, but the stock remains structurally sound. The engraved magazine plate and trigger guard add an elegant touch to an already premium rifle.

With a 22” barrel, strong bore, and smooth Mauser action, this rifle is an excellent option for hunting or long-range shooting. Whether you're looking for a vintage FN Browning to add to your collection or a well-built hunting rifle with a touch of history, this Browning Safari is a fantastic choice.

Imperial Japanese WW2 Rising Sun "Meatball" Silk Flag

Lot # 187 (Sale Order: 187 of 354)

This is an original World War II-era Imperial Japanese "meatball" flag, featuring the iconic red sun disc (hinomaru) on a white silk field. Measuring approximately 29” X 24”, the flag is made of lightweight silk with cloth corner reinforcements and intact ties. It remains unsigned—less common than the typical yosegaki good-luck flags—which may suggest it was used for ceremonial purposes or as a standard-issue field flag. The silk shows expected age toning and minor fraying but retains strong color and remains well-preserved overall. These flags were a prominent symbol of Japanese nationalism and were often taken as battlefield souvenirs by Allied troops in the Pacific Theater. Unsigned examples like this are particularly desirable for collectors seeking a clean, display-worthy piece that represents the powerful wartime imagery of Imperial Japan. Late War WWII Japanese Chuo Kogyo Kokubunji Type 94 8mm Nambu Military Semi-Auto Pistol, 1944 C&R

Lot # 190 (Sale Order: 190 of 354)

Make: Chuo Kogyo Co. At Kokubunji Operating Under the Supervision of the Nagoya Arsenal.

Model: Type 94 Nambu

Serial Number: 48314

Year of Manufacture: February, 1944

Caliber: 8mm Nambu

Action Type: Single Action Semi-Auto Pistol with Removable Magazine

Barrel Length: 96mm (approximately 3.78”)

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a short post style blade fixed to the top of the slide. The rear sight is a square notch integral to the top-rear of the frame.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered black synthetic panels. The grips have light handling wear with some scattered light marks. There is slightly rough shaping around the edges. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original, the serialized parts are matching.

Bore Condition: The bore is light gray with well defined rifling. There is scattered light erosion and minor pitting in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 6+ out of 10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 75% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at all edges. The grip areas show handling wear. There are some light nicks, scuffs and small scratches. There is infrequent minor surface oxidation. The action shows light operational wear. The screws are tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Good condition (see Mechanics).

Mechanics: The sear engagement is poor, the hammer tends to follow when the slide is dropped from slide lock. Otherwise, the action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The pistol comes with a single serial-matching magazine and a brown leather flap-holster.

Our Assessment: The Type 94 Nambu is an odd-looking pistol but was popular with the Japanese troops because it was smaller and lighter than the Type 14. It was issued to tankers, pilots and others who had to work in cramped quarters. It was originally designed as a military sidearm, and never intended for civilian sales. Like other Nambu pistols, it is chambered for 8mm Nambu. This pistol was made by the Chuo Kogyo company under the supervision of the Nagoya Arsenal in March, 1944. The pistol comes with something we don’t see very often – a magazine serialized to the pistol.

This pistol is in Good condition with about 75% of its original finish remaining and strong mechanics apart from the hammer sear engagement which should be addressed. The overall appearance is consistent with the time this pistol was manufactured. By February 1944, the Japanese were being steadily pushed back in the Pacific. Allied forces were hopping through the Marianas islands and before too long, Japanese forces would be retreating in Burma. The rough machining and polishing is a result of Japan's efforts to cut corners, speed production, and do everything possible to continue the fight despite the outcome being all but certain, and not in their favor. This pistol should be a big hit with the collectors of Japanese weaponry and of military weapons used in WWII. Please see our photos and good luck!

Japanese Tokyo Artillery Arsenal Type 26 9mm DAO Military Revolver & Holster, 1895-1923 C&R

Lot # 191 (Sale Order: 191 of 354)

Make: Tokyo Artillery Arsenal (Also referred to as the Koishikawa Arsenal because it was located in the Koishikawa district of Tokyo)

Model: Type 26

Serial Number: 30277

Year of Manufacture: 1895-1923

Caliber: 9mm Japanese (NOT 9mm Luger)

Action Type: Double Action Only Revolver with Spur-less Hammer and Six Shot Cylinder

Barrel Length: 4 3/4"

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a half-round blade pinned into a slotted base atop the barrel. The rear sight is a “U” groove at the back of the top strap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered wood with smooth borders. The left panel is not original to the gun and has improper fit. We have not removed the right panel to inspect it for a serial marking. The grips have moderate handling wear and some discoloration from age and oil. There are a scattered nicks, scuffs and scratches with a few more notable dings. The checkering is generally well defined. Overall, the grips are in Good-Very Good condition as, at least partially, not original to the gun.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Refinished, likely Arsenal Refurbished. Most numbered parts are matching, the cylinder and ejector do not match the frame or each other.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright with well defined rifling. There is some scattered light erosion in the bore with infrequent minor pitting. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates about 7 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 65% of its current metal finish. The mainspring has broken and been repaired by wrapping with wire. The finish is thinning at all edges. There is handling wear in the grip areas and there is finish wear on the barrel consistent with holster-use. There are some light nicks and small scratches. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads are tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in Good-plus condition as refinished and repaired.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in a leather clamshell holster. The holster has provision for 18 cartridges in an ammo pouch and a cleaning rod, three rounds of ammunition and a cleaning rod are present.

Our Assessment: The first service revolver used by the Japanese was the Smith & Wesson in .44 Russian. They started designing their own revolver in 1890 and the Type 26 was finished in 1893 and adopted by the military in 1894. It was a double action only revolver with a six-shot cylinder firing a 9mm Japanese cartridge similar to the .38 S&W. The Type 26 revolvers stopped production in 1923 but were still used as secondary weapons even after the Type 14 Nambu was introduced in 1926. Because of their use in the Russo-Japanese War and in WWI, many of the early Type 26 revolvers were arsenal refurbished, with the original bright blue finish replaced by a dull blue and the checkered grips replaced by those with horizontal serrations. This is an example from Standard Production and appears to have been through an arsenal refurbishment. The wire-wrapped repair to the mainspring was likely done outside of an arsenal, possibly even a field-expedient repair. This revolver should make a nice addition to any collection of Japanese martial arms, especially with the included holster. Please see our photos and good luck!

WWII Japan Toriimatsu Nagoya Type 14 8mm Nambu Military Semi-Automatic Pistol, August 1943 C&R

Lot # 192 (Sale Order: 192 of 354)

Make: Toriimatsu Branch of Nagoya Arsenal, Japan

Model: Nambu Type 14 1st Series (after "Original Series")

Serial Number: 88245

Year of Manufacture: August, 1943

Caliber: 8mm Nambu

Action Type: Striker-Fired Semi-Auto Pistol fed by Removable Magazine

Barrel Length: 4 1/2”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed into a slightly raised base on the barrel. The rear sight is a square groove milled into a raised boss on the back of the frame.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two piece wood with 24 horizontal serrations on each panel. The inside of each panel is marked with the last four digits of the serial number. The grips show light handling wear with scattered nicks, scuffs and scratches. There are compressions on each panel above the screws. There are no chips or cracks. The serrations are well defined. The grips rate in Very Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original. Most numbered parts are matching. The striker is non-matching.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. The firing pin is broken off the striker. The finish is generally strong with the balance mostly in normal operational wear. There are some scattered small marks. The screw heads are tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in Good condition and would rate Very Good-Fine but for the broken striker.

Mechanics: The firing pin is broken off the striker. Otherwise, the action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a single serial-matching magazine and a brown leather clamshell holster with shoulder-strap. The flap has come free from the body of the holster.

Our Assessment: This is a Nambu Type 14 pistol made by the Toriimatsu branch of the Nagoya arsenal in August, 1943 (1st Series). The Type 14 was built between 1925 and 1945 for the armed forces, and almost all of the Japanese pistols and revolvers used unique cartridges. The 8mm Nambu is a bottleneck cartridge that pushes a 102 gr. bullet at a little over 900 fps. and has approximately the same power as a .380 ACP cartridge. This is a neat find for the collector of WWII or Japanese weapons. It was produced mid-war, just starting to show the rougher finish seen on Japanese guns of the period. When this pistol was produced, the Allies had essentially won the Solomon Islands campaign, though skirmishing would continue for three weeks into September, Admiral Yamomoto had been killed, and things were not looking good for Japan.

This pistol is in quite nice condition given its age and service. It retains the great majority of its original finish, a great bore and, apart from a broken firing pin (common for this model), strong mechanics. It has matching serialized parts apart from the broken striker and even comes with one matching magazine. Not that many Japanese pistols survived the war, and those that did were often in poor condition or have been refinished, so this will make a great addition to a collection. Please see our photos and good luck!

Matching Japanese Tokyo Artillery Arsenal Type B "Baby" 7mm Nambu Semi-Automatic Pistol, C&R

Lot # 193 (Sale Order: 193 of 354)

Make: Tokyo Artillery Arsenal in Koishikawa

Model: The official Japanese model for this pistol was Automatic Pistol Nambu Type B, but it has typically been referred to as the "Baby Nambu" by Western collectors.

Serial Number: 1125

Year of Manufacture: 1909-1923

Caliber: 7x20mm Nambu

Action Type: Striker-Fired, Short-Recoil, Semi-Automatic with 7-Round Removable Magazine

Barrel Length: 3 1/4”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed into a base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a “V” groove in the top of the frame at the rear.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered wood with smooth borders. The interior of each panel is marked with the serial number. The grips have light handling wear with a few light nicks and compressed checkers. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Very Good-plus condition.

Type of Finish: Blue & Strawed

Finish Originality: Original, numbered parts match.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright with well defined rifling. There is scattered minor erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 7+ out of 10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 90% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at most edges. There is scattered minor surface oxidation, primarily in the grip areas. There is light handling wear in the grip areas. The strawed parts show some muting. There are a few scattered minor marks. The action shows light operational wear. The screw heads are tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a single 7-round serial-matching magazine, a leather flap holster with cleaning rod and three cartridges.

Our Assessment: The Nambu Type B pistol, generally referred to in the West as the "Baby Nambu", was a three-quarter sized scaled-down version of the Model 1902 ("Grandpa Nambu"). Very limited production started in 1903 with full-scale production beginning in 1909. Production continued through 1921 to 1923 (records from this period are incomplete), with all production moving to the Tokyo Gas Electric Company to free up production capacity for the modified 1902 "Papa" Nambu. The "Baby" Nambu were never adopted by any branch of the armed forces but were sold to officers through officer stores. Sales, and thus production, were limited due to the pistol's high cost when compared to comparable import pistols which tended to not only be less expensive, but also of higher quality.

This example is in quite good condition given its age and the period of Japanese history it survived. It retains much of its original finish, a decent bore and all-matching serialized parts, including its magazine! With approximately 6,500 pistols made between the Tokyo Artillery Arsenal and TGE, this pistol is perfect for a collector of Japanese firearms. It would look great along-side its “Grandpa”, “Papa”, Type 14 and Type 94 cousins. Please see our photos and good luck!

WWII Era Kokura Arsenal Arisaka Type 99 7.7x58mm 26" Japanese Bolt Action Rifle MFD 1940 - 1945 C&R

Lot # 194 (Sale Order: 194 of 354)

Make: Kokura Arsenal

Model: Arisaka Type 99

Serial Number: 81397

Year of Manufacture: Circa 1940–1945, C&R

Caliber: 7.7x58mm Japanese

Action Type: Bolt Action, Internal Magazine

Barrel Length: 26”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a protected inverted V-blade. The rear sight is fixed peep sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a two-piece wood configuration with a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, smooth forend, and wood buttplate. The buttstock has been sanded, softening some edges and the arsenal markings. There are scattered light scratches and compression marks throughout the wood. There are no cracks. The stock rates in about Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright, the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows general operational wear with thinning on the bolt handle, edges of the receiver, and contact points on the barrel. The screw heads are lightly tooled with serviceable slots. The pins are unmarred. The markings are partially worn but still legible. Overall, this rifle rates in about Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: The Arisaka Type 99 rifle, developed by the Japanese Empire during World War II, was a rugged and reliable bolt-action service rifle designed to replace the earlier Type 38. Chambered in the more powerful 7.7x58mm cartridge, it featured updates such as a chrome-lined bore and anti-aircraft rear sights, though late-war "last-ditch" examples often lacked such refinements. This example was produced by the Kokura Arsenal, one of Japan’s major military arms factories. Collectors of WWII militaria and Japanese firearms will appreciate this rifle’s originality and solid condition. With its complete configuration, excellent bore, and correct arsenal marks, it’s a worthy addition to any historical collection or a good shooter-grade option for enthusiasts of military surplus rifles.

There are scattered areas of patina, edge wear, and small surface scuffs. The screw heads are lightly tooled with serviceable slots. The pins are clean. The markings are mostly sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: The Arisaka Type 99 is one of the most iconic military bolt-action rifles of World War II, issued widely to Japanese Imperial forces. Produced at the Nagoya Arsenal between the late 1930s and 1945, these rifles were known for their ruggedness and strength, particularly in the later war years when material shortages led to reduced refinement.

This example bears many of the hallmarks of a typical battlefield-return rifle. The duffel-cut stock, removed monopod, and absent AA wings on the rear sight all suggest a rifle brought home by a GI. The finish remains strong with approximately 80% retained, and the matching wood stock retains its character despite service wear.

While the bore is currently obstructed, the mechanics are sound, and the historical and collector value of this Nagoya Arsenal Type 99 remains significant. It’s a solid piece for collectors of WWII militaria or Japanese arms looking for a representative example of Japan’s wartime service rifles.

Our Assessment: This Arisaka Type 99 Training Rifle is a striking piece of World War II-era Japanese military history. These rifles were never intended for combat and were instead used for instructional drills and basic firearms handling, often by cadets or reserve forces. As such, they were made to resemble service rifles in size and operation but were chambered for blanks and lacked rifled bores.

Despite its non-combat purpose, this training rifle captures the essence of Japan's militarization efforts in the early to mid-20th century. The craftsmanship and attention to detail in replicating the look and feel of the standard Type 99 battle rifle show a deep commitment to soldier readiness. This piece, with its high condition rating and low serial number “45,” is a compelling example.

Collectors of Japanese militaria, WWII trainers, or martial rifles will appreciate this rifle for its historical authenticity and preservation. It's not just a placeholder or replica — it's a tangible relic from Japan's military training infrastructure.

Our Assessment: The Arisaka Type 99 was Japan’s primary battle rifle during the latter part of World War II. Chambered in the powerful 7.7x58mm cartridge, it was built for durability and battlefield reliability. This example, made by the Nagoya Arsenal between 1939 and 1945, features several design traits unique to Japanese wartime production, such as the two-piece stock and anti-aircraft rear sight.

This rifle retains much of its original blued finish and exhibits only minor handling wear, indicative of careful postwar preservation or light service. The bore is in exceptional shape, a rarity among Type 99 rifles, which are often found with dark or worn bores due to corrosive ammunition use.

With solid mechanics, a sharp bore, and honest originality, it’s a well-preserved piece of Pacific War history.

Known for its exceptional strength and reliability, the Type 38 design was praised even by American ordnance experts, particularly for its safety features and robust action.

This example was manufactured at Kokura Arsenal and retains the remnants of the Imperial Chrysanthemum crest, signifying direct imperial property—though defaced, as was typical when surrendered post-war. Its shortened 19” barrel indicates it may have been modified from a full-length infantry rifle, possibly by occupation forces or for later reissue.

For collectors of WWII militaria or those fascinated by the engineering of Japanese small arms, this Type 38 represents both historical intrigue and rugged craftsmanship. It’s a solid candidate for restoration or display and would make an excellent addition to any C&R collection.
