After Frederic Remington "Coming Through The Rye" 30" Bronze Statue
Lot # 1052 (Sale Order: 51 of 384)
Frederic Remington was an American painter, illustrator, sculptor, and writer that specialized in Western American Art. He played a significant role in capturing the spirit of the American frontier in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Remington's work is often associated with the Cowboy and Native American cultures, as well as the U.S. Cavalry. This incredible artwork was Remington's most ambitious sculpture. "Coming Through The Rye" depicts four cowboys riding their galloping horses whilst shooting their pistols into the air and acting boisterous, suggesting the bravado and energy that characterized the frontier way of life. This famous sculpture was inspired by the artist's own illustrations, one published in "Century Magazine" in October 1888, the other in "Harper's Weekly" in December 1889. This bronze statue and marble base are in excellent condition, only showing light handling and storage marks. The finish is complete with no defects. It measures 30" W x 28" H x 24" L. "Frederic Remington" is marked on the base, there are no other markings. This thought provoking and very large sculpture is a must have for any Western collection.
1850's Ranch Ox Yoke from Inwood California
Lot # 1053 (Sale Order: 52 of 384)
This dual neck yoke (or bow yoke) is a shaped wooden cross piece that binds to the necks of a pair of oxen (or occasionally to horses). It is held on the animals' necks by an oxbow, from which it gets its name, which enables a pair of oxen or other animal to pull together on a load. The yoke is a simple & effective instrument in both design and construction. It has very few moving parts, and unlike a horse harness, which usually has an elaborate system of straps and buckles to fit and adjust, it is simple and quick for even a single person to hitch up a trained team of oxen. This example is marked "W M" in the center. This Yoke was used in the mid 19th century on a Ranch in Inwood California. In 1860, a grizzly bear was killing cattle on this Inwood ranch. A rancher went out to dispatch but never returned, he was killed by the animal. His neighbor went looking for him and was also killed by the bear. enough was enough, several ranchers went together to shoot the bear and they succeeded and took down the dangerous animal. This yoke is being held together by bolts and nails, the metal rings and other components show much oxidation. The rough and dry wood is chipped in a few spots, it shows many cracks and splinters. This yoke is very old but still remains aesthetically pleasing, it is a fascinating piece of Americana and would make nice decor for a farm or homestead.

Civil War Colt Model 1849 Pocket .31 Cal 6" Percussion Revolver, MFD 1862
Lot # 1064 (Sale Order: 63 of 384)
Our Assessment: This rather diminutive revolver, an older, yet smaller brother to the 36 caliber Model 1851 Navy, met with the largest sales unit volume in all of Colt's percussion line. Indeed, no other percussion revolver made in America could match "The 1849" production record. Made from 1850 through 1873, the total MANUFACTURED was in excess of 325,000 in America, plus approximately 11,000 in London. Popular as a defense weapon, many thousands were sold in Western America to pioneer families. Soldiers appreciated the compact little pistols, and photographs of Civil War troops frequently show a sprinkling of the Model 1849 tucked into belts or in holsters. This 1849 was made in 1862, after the outbreak of the Civil War.Despite being a "pocket" model, this example has a 6" barrel and a six-round cylinder which gives it the same capacity as a larger 1851 or 1860 Model, though notably less power. The revolver has had a few parts replaced, but is functioning properly. This perfect for display as a conversation piece or in a collection of early Colt revolvers. It is also interesting to collectors as it was produced during the Civil War and may have been carried on a belt by a Union soldier.
Make: Colt
Model: 1849 Pocket
Serial Number: 220468
Year of Manufacture: 1862
Caliber: .31 Caliber
Action Type: Single Action Percussion Revolver
Barrel Length: 6"
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a brass post at the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a "V"-notch integral to the hammer, visible when cocked.
Grip Configuration & Condition: The grip is one-piece smooth walnut. The grip has scattered nicks, scuffs and scratches. There are no chips or cracks. The grips rate in about Very Good-Fine overall condition as ANTIQUE.
Type of Finish: Blue, Case Color & Silver Plated Brass
Finish Originality: Original to the parts. The wedge and loading lever are not original to the gun.
Bore Condition: The bore is gray and the rifling is well defined. There is scattered erosion and pitting in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 5 or 6 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 5% of its metal finish. Remaining finish is mostly in trace silver plate on the trigger guard. The steel surfaces have mostly gone to a uniform patina. There is wear and erosion around the nipples. There are scattered nicks, scuffs and scratches. There are tool marks around the wedge. There are some scattered spots of erosion. There is more notable erosion in the hammer slot immediately behind the nipple. The screw heads range from sharp to disfigured with usable slots. The markings range from clear to worn, but legible. Overall, this handgun rates in about Good-Very Good condition as ANTIQUE.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a more thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.
Pre-Civil War Colt 1849 Pocket .31 Cal 5" Percussion Revolver, MFD 1853
Lot # 1065 (Sale Order: 64 of 384)
Our Assessment: This 1849 was made in 1853, several years before the outbreak of the Civil War. Despite being a "pocket" model, it was offered with longer barrels and this example has a 5" barrel. The serialized parts on this revolver match apart from the cylinder which has been replaced. The bore is more than decent for its age and the mechanics are strong. It certainly looks like it has a story to tell. Who knows? Maybe it was carried in a belt during the Civil War! It would make for a great display or conversation piece in a collection of early Colt revolvers.

The cylinder is mostly worn to white. There are scattered nicks, scuffs and scratches with tool marks around the wedge. There is some scattered light oxidation. The action shows operational wear. The serialized parts on this revolver match and it is in much better mechanical condition than some examples we have seen. This perfect for display as a conversation piece or in a collection of early Colt revolvers.
It is also interesting to collectors due to the inscription on the backstrap, "possibly from a soldier who carried it during the Civil War"DW BIDLAKE". This is consistent with a Daniel Webster "D.W." Bidlake who served with Company A of the 42nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. This regiment was commanded by Colonel James Garfield who would go on to become the 20th President of the United States.

General Edward Ferrero Inscribed Civil War Colt 1861 Navy Revolver, MFD 1862
Lot # 1068 (Sale Order: 67 of 384)
Our Assessment: The Colt 1861 Navy revolver was an update to the earlier 1851 model, incorporating the round barrel and creeping loading lever of the 1860 Army. In all respects, it is a great percussion revolver, but it saw limited production for a few reasons. Limited numbers were procured by the Government as there were already large purchases of the 1851 and 1860 models. After the Civil War, the civilian market was flooded with surplus weapons, limiting demand for new guns. Colt's factory had a disastrous fire in 1864, and by then cartridge revolvers were starting to hit the market. For these reasons, despite the quality of the design, there were fewer than 40,000 produced between 1861 and 1873 when the model was discontinued. It would, however, have an influence on the Single Action Army, which had a similar grip frame (though steel instead of brass) and would retain the 7 1/2" barrel length for the Model 1873 adopted by the U.S. Army. This Model 1861 revolver is of particular interest for Civil War collectors as it is inscribed "Col. e. Ferrero" on the backstrap. In 1862 there was a Colonel Edward Ferrero commanding the 51st New York Regiment, later in the year being promoted to Brigadier General and Breveted Major General in 1864 for bravery and meritorious service. Outside of his military service, Ferrero ran a successful dancing school business in New York City. The revolver is accompanied by a large quantity of documentation of Ferrero including documents from the National Archives. This a wonderful piece of history which would take a prized place in a Civil War or US military firearms collection.
Make: Colt
Model: 1861 Navy
Serial Number: 8145
Year of Manufacture: 1862
Caliber: .36 Caliber Cap and Ball
Action Type: Single Action Percussion Revolver
Barrel Length: 7 1/2", Round
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a German silver blade fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a "V"-notch in the hammer spur, visible when cocked.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is one-piece smooth walnut. The grip has minor handling wear with a few light marks and some thinning finish. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grip is in excellent condition as ANTIQUE
Type of Finish: Blue, Case Color & Silver-Plated Brass
Finish Originality: Original, serial-matching.
Bore Condition: The bore is gray. The rifling is well defined, sharp where not interrupted by erosion. There is light erosion scattered through the bore with some patches of more moderate-severe erosion and pitting. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 4 or 5 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 20% of its metal finish. There is some silver plate remaining at the top of the backstrap, the butt, and corners of the trigger guard. There is infrequent case color in well protected areas. The cylinder and barrel have infrequent remaining finish, having mostly worn or been cleaned to white. There are some tool marks and erosion around the wedge and loading groove. There are some scattered nicks and scratches. The action shows operational wear including some turn-wear on the cylinder, but the safety studs on the rear of the cylinder are intact. The wedge screw is missing. The remaining screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with useable slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in Good condition as ANTIQUE (see Mechanics).
Mechanics: The cylinder ratchet has a burr that catches the hand in one chamber position, preventing the hammer from being pulled back due to the cylinder stop still being engaged. Otherwise, the action functions correctly. The cylinder locks up with minor play on each chamber. The barrel has minor play to the frame. The trigger is crisp. We have not fired this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes with a Colt Archives letter and a variety of documentation about Edward Ferrero, both photocopies of information from various publications as well as documents requested from the National Archives. The letter indicates that this revolver shipped August 29, 1862 to the United States Navy Department, Commander Davis, in Cairo, Illinois as one of 100 guns of the same type in the shipment.

Colt 1st Gen Single Action Army Dual Caliber .44 Special/Russian Revolver
Lot # 1069 (Sale Order: 68 of 384)
Our Assessment: Colt's Single Action Army is, perhaps more than any other, an iconic American pistol. It was the U.S. issue sidearm for the last two decades of the 19th century, used by pioneers, outlaws and lawmen across the expanding nation, and captivated audiences on the silver screen and television (and still does, today). Produced for nearly a century and a half, they are still being made, today! The 1st Generation Single Action Army was produced from 1873 to 1941, though sales did fall off toward the end of the 1st Generation. While more than 344,000 of the revolvers were made from 1873 to 1922, in the last 18 years of production there were only about 13,000 made. This one of the later 1st Generation, made in 1930 during the Great Depression. It is an exceptional piece not only for its scarce chambering, but also for its factory checkered backstrap. It is what collectors refer to as a "Dual Caliber", chambered for .44 S&W Special and marked for this cartridge and for the .44 Russian cartridge. With approximately 500 such revolvers produced, it is a scarce chambering, and there may not be another with factory checkering on the backstrap. The revolver shows honest wear for its age and comes with a Colt factory letter confirming its configuration. This will take a prized place in even an advanced Single Action Army collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
Make: Colt
Model: Single Action Army, 1st Generation
Serial Number: 354248
Year of Manufacture: 1930
Caliber: .44 Russian and .44 S&W Special
Action Type: Single Action Revolver with Side Loading Gate Cylinder
Barrel Length: 5 1/2"
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a "V"-notch integral to the top strap.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece stag panels. The grips have minor handling wear and some shaping marks around the edges. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Fine-plus condition as not original to the gun.
Type of Finish: Blued & Case Color
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There are some spots of very minor erosion in the bore at the muzzle-end. In this writer's opinion, this bore rates 8 or 9 out of 10.Many military and C&R-eligible weapons have bores that will show erosion. This not only due to age but to the fact that corrosive primers were commonly used in ammunition worldwide.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 70% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at all edges. The grip areas show handling wear. The frame has strong case color in protected areas and around raised features with other areas muted. There is finish wear on the left of the barrel and along the ejector housing. There are some light nicks and scratches. There is some scattered minor oxidation. The action shows operational wear including a turn-line on the cylinder. The head of the cylinder pin is tool marked. The screw heads are tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Lockup produces almost light play on all six chambers. The trigger is crisp. The cylinder has a removable bushing. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a Colt letter which confirms the revolver's configuration, shipped December 19, 1930, sold to Kimball Sporting Goods Company in Tacoma Washington and shipped to Adams-Semler Co., address not available in Colt's records. It was the only gun in the shipment.

1963 Colt 2nd Generation .44 Special Single Action Army Revolver & Box
Lot # 1072 (Sale Order: 71 of 384)
Our Assessment: The Colt Single Action Army is perhaps the quintessential old west handgun, produced for more than a century, serving the U.S. Army as its sidearm from 1873 into the first world war and captivating audiences on the silver screen. The SAA was discontinued by Colt as it tooled up to provide for the WWII war effort, and it was thought by Colt that the design was obsolete, swing-out cylinder revolvers had been around for half a century and autoloaders were gaining in popularity. Then, with the advent of television and western programs such as Hopalong Cassidy, The Lone Ranger, The Cisco Kid, and The Gene Autry Show, American interest in the guns that won the west was reborn. In 1956, Colt reintroduced the Single Action Army, this new production run now referred to as the 2nd Generation SAA's.This one such example from 1963. It is in about excellent condition with a great bore, strong mechanics and light wear given its age of 60 years. The gun is chambered for the .44 Special cartridge, a more mild round than the .44 Magnum, suitable for target shooting and some small game, also desirable among collectors. The chambering is scarce in 2nd Generation production. According to George Garton's book on the post-war Single Action Army revolvers, only 1,131 were produced with a 5 1/2" barrel and blued finish, such as this one. The revolver comes with a period-correct "Stagecoach" box. This would make a great addition to a Colt collection as an early second generation and should prove to be a fun and classy shooter.

Colt Army Model 1892 .38 LC DA/SA Double Revolver 1892 1st Year, ANTIQUE
Lot # 1076 (Sale Order: 75 of 384)
Our Assessment: This U.S. Army Model of 1892 is a first-year of production and saw service with the… U.S. Army! The 1892 was itself a continuation from and refinement of the 1889 Navy revolver. The 1892 would not be the last designation—1894, 1895, 1896, 1901, and 1903 versions would also be produced, each featuring minor upgrades, fixes, or specifications depending on which organization or individual was using it. Teddy Roosevelt carried one at the battle of San Juan Hill; Wells Fargo armed their workers with them; domestic police departments and several South American armies used them. This example is especially noteworthy for still retaining its original grips which feature cartouches, "R.A.C." inspection marks and serial matching on the crane cut, crane, cylinder release and grip frame. Colt collectors love these revolvers and seek them out frequently. This a quality firearm even after this 130+ years old firearm, with most of its original finish intact. We advise anyone that isn't a Colt collector to become one, and no doubt this pistol is a great place to start. Good luck in your bidding!
Make: Colt
Model: 1892 New Army
Serial Number: 6848
Year of Manufacture: 1892 (Colt Serial Lookup)
Caliber: .38 Long Colt
Action Type: Double Action SA/DA Revolver with Swing Out Cylinder
Barrel Length: 6"
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade fixed to the barrel above the muzzle. The rear sight is a U-notch grooved into the top strap.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth wood. The grips show light nicks, compressions and some minor handling and storage marks. Original cartouches are worn but evidently still present. The grips are in Very Good overall condition, as ANTIQUE.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright, the rifling is sharp. There is a bit of persistent fouling but no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion and for the age, this bore rates a 9 or 10 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 85% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows a thin turn line on the cylinder. There are patches of contact and holster wear on leading edges and surfaces. There are light nicks, scuffs and scratches throughout. The screw heads are well-defined. The markings in the metal are clear. The markings in the wood are worn but discernible. Overall, this pistol Very Good condition, as ANTIQUE.
Mechanics: The hammer and trigger appear to function correctly. However, the cylinder does not advance in either single or double action. The cylinder locks with light play when the trigger is pressed. We recommend having this revolver serviced by a qualified gunsmith prior to use. We did not fire this firearm. We have cleaned this firearm and performed a mechanic's check but expect many will want to clean the firearm again depending on their standards.
