FN Browning Model 1910 Belgian Military Semi Automatic Pistol

Lot # 103 (Sale Order: 103 of 391)

FN Browning Model 1910 Belgian Military Semi Automatic Pistol

Our Assessment: This WWI Belgian military marked pistol is in about Fine overall condition. It was made just before WWI (as determined by the slide markings) and has a great bore. The John Browning-designed FN Model 1910 pistol was produced from 1912 to 1975 in both .32 and .380 A.C.P. calibers. Browning couldn't get Colt to produce it, so he patented it in Europe and had it produced by FN. A Model 1910, serial number 19074, chambered in .380 A.C.P. was the handgun used by Gavrilo Princip to assassinate Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, an act that arguably precipitated the First World War. This nice looking example was produced for the Belgian military and bears the military acceptance stamps. It is in fantastic condition for having survived WWI. If it escapes the collectors, it will make someone a nice little carry gun.

U.S. Property Marked 1940 Hi-Standard Model B .22 LR Semi Auto Training Pistol

Lot # 106 (Sale Order: 106 of 391)

U.S. Property Marked 1940 Hi-Standard Model B .22LR Semi Auto Training Pistol

Our Assessment: When Hi Standard first started producing semi-auto pistols the first model they came out with was the Model B. The basic design was derived from an earlier Browning design, as was the Colt Woodsman. In fact, the Woodsman and the Model B look almost identical, although they are not. Although it was originally marketed as a plinker, the Model B turned out to be reliable, well made, and accurate. This one was made in 1940, and is a U.S. property marked. This Model B is in Nice condition, showing a great bore, strong mechanics and well preserved checkered grips. At the beginning of WWII, there was a demand for .22 caliber pistols to train new recruits in marksmanship. This one of those training pistols bearing the U.S. property marking and crossed cannon cartouche. This pistol is seldom found in this Nice condition and deserves to take its rightful place in a Hi-Standard collection. Please see our photos, good luck and happy bidding! Robert

Smith & Wesson Model 1913 .35 S&W 3.5" Semi Automatic Pistol

Lot # 115 (Sale Order: 115 of 391)

Smith & Wesson Model 1913 .35 S&W 3.5" Semi Automatic Pistol

Our Assessment: This a Smith & Wesson Model 1913 .35 Semi-Auto Pistol from the early 1900s. There were eight different versions of this pistol based on small changes in the design between 1913 and 1921. The original design was based on Charles Philibert Clement's Model 1903 pistol chambered in 5mm Clement, and features the recoil spring located above the barrel to minimize muzzle flip. This pistol has two unique features: a grip safety on the front strap and a button on the slide used to reduce the effort required to pull the slide back. The pistol was designed to compete with Colts Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless pistol, but by the time it was released, the Colt was too popular and the availability of its .32 ACP cartridge made potential buyers skeptical of a non-standard cartridge. The pistol ceased production in 1921 after about 8350 pistols had been manufactured. This pistol is in nice shape and comes with one magazine to get you started, with only 8350 made, it is somewhat Rare and likely to end up in a S&W collection or collection of early American automatics. This a historic Smith & Wesson and was their only foray into the semi-automatic pistol market until over two decades later when they rekindled their interest and geared up to make the model 39. The cartridges for this pistol are obsolete, but cases may be made from cut-down .30 M1 Carbine cases. Please see our photos and good luck!

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp where not interrupted by erosion. There is pitting and erosion at the muzzle. In this writer's opinion and for the age, the bore rates a 7 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its new metal finish. There are a few scattered spots of frost. There are some scattered little marks and spots of erosion under the new finish. There are some light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp to lightly worn. The markings are legible. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine condition.

Savage Arms Co. 1899 C Standard .38-55 WCF 26" Half Octagonal Lever Action Rifle

Lot # 116 (Sale Order: 116 of 391)

Savage Arms Co. 1899 C Standard .38-55 WCF 26" Half Octagonal Lever Action Rifle

Our Assessment: The Savage 1899/99 model rifles have quite a history. They were preceded by the Model 1895, which was the first hammerless lever-action rifle produced. A hammerless action was useful as it reduces the lock time, allows the rifle to be fired more accurately and is less likely to jam in brush or snag in clothing. The 1895 and 1899/99 models used a rotary magazine to hold the cartridges, using a spring-loaded spool with grooves. The 1899/99 models added a counter to the spool to indicate how many rounds are loaded. This design allowed the use of spitzer bullets, which could not be used in many of the competing lever action rifles of the times because the pointed tips in the tubular magazines could cause an accidental discharge. This gave Savage a lead in producing rifles that could handle high-velocity smokeless powder cartridges with bullets offering flatter trajectories than other lever-action designs. This rifle has a 26" half round half octagonal barrel and comes with iron sights. This a nice vintage rifle that will be a welcome addition to a C&R or lever-action rifle collection! Please see our photos and good luck!

Make: Savage Arms Co.

There are a couple tiny cracks at the rear edge of the buttplate where it meets the metal. There are hairline cracks at the front of the forend. There is thinning and finish loss throughout. There are some scattered nicks, dings, scuffs, scratches and scrapes. The LOP is 13" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has finish loss, scratches, areas of oxidation, and areas of light erosion. The stocks rate in about Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blued with Case Color Lever

Bore Condition: The bore is dark and the rifling is worn and shallow. There is pitting and erosion throughout the bore. In this writer's opinion, this bore rates 2 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 40% of its metal finish. The receiver has lost its finish and now has patina and scabbing. There is finish wear on the edges. There are some scattered nicks, scuffs, scratches, spots of oxidation, and areas of discoloration from previous oxidation. The blued finish has areas of patina. Winchester Model 55 Takedown 24" .30-30 WCF Lever Action Rifle, 1927

Lot # 120 (Sale Order: 120 of 391)

Winchester Model 55 Takedown 24" .30-30 WCF Lever Action Rifle, 1927

Our Assessment: By the early 1920's, Winchester's Model 94 rifle was losing sales, and in 1924 Winchester introduced an updated version of the Model 94 rifle dubbed the Model 55. The Winchester Model 55 was a rifle with a 24-inch barrel, a half-magazine that held three cartridges and was a takedown rifle which was convenient for storage and transport. It was initially chambered only in .30-30 Win., but .25-35 Win. and .32 Win. Spl. were added in 1926. For the first few years, the Model 55 carried its own set of serial numbers. eventually, Winchester started producing Models 55 with a solid frame, using Model 94 receivers and serialized in the established Model 94 range. In 1932, with approximately 20,500 guns made, the Model 55 was discontinued to make way for the Winchester Model 64. This rifle was made in 1927, with a takedown action and serialized in the Model 94 serial range. The rifle has honest wear consistent with its age, but it still retains a strong bore and mechanics. This rifle could be heading back out in the field to drop some deer but would also help round out a collection missing the Model 55. Please see our photos and good luck!

Make: Winchester

Model: Model 55

Serial Number: 8984

Year of Manufacture: 1927

Caliber: .30-30 WCF

Bore Condition: The bore is semi bright and the rifling is well defined. There is light erosion in the grooves and by the muzzle. In this writer's opinion and for the age, the bore rates a 9 out of 10. This rifle still has a very shootable bore, and if the collectors don't show enough interest, it will make someone a nice deer rifle.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 35% of its metal finish. It shows scratches, thinning, discoloration from oxidation, and areas of light surface erosion. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. This rifle was made in 1925, in the earlier years with a takedown action and serialized in the Model 55 serial range. The rifle certainly looks like it has seen its share of use, but it still retains a good bore and strong mechanics.
