Sharp Pre-1931 Savage Model 1920 .300 Savage 24" Bolt Action Rifle

Lot # 144 (Sale Order: 144 of 391)

Sharp Pre-1931 Savage Model 1920 .300 Savage 24" Bolt Action Rifle

Our Assessment: The Savage 1920 is the first bolt action sporting rifle offered by a major arms company anywhere in the world. Designed on the heels of World War I, Savage believed that returning soldiers would create a market for bolt-action rifles, as they had been the primary rifle type through the conflict. The firearms market at the time was dominated by lever action and pump action rifles. Bolt action rifles that were in use at the time were modified or ‘sporterized' military rifles, with the work often performed by their owners or a gunsmith. Savage offered something that was ready for the hunt square out of the box, and it proved to be popular. It's broadly accepted that around 13,000 were produced, but sadly, records were destroyed in a fire and it is impossible to nail down precisely when this rifle was manufactured. Given its age, this example is in great condition, and will doubtlessly be a nice addition to any collection. In overall Very Good condition, all visible wear is consistent with normal use and it is obvious that this rifle has seen its share of honest work and care. Mechanically, things are in good working order, and the bore is solid. Do not miss a chance to own a fine piece of American firearm history! Please see our photos and good luck!

H&R Reising Model 65 Commercial .22 LR 23" Semi Automatic Rifle & Sling

Lot # 145 (Sale Order: 145 of 391)

H&R Reising Model 65 Commercial .22LR 23" Semi Automatic Rifle & Sling

Our Assessment: This Harrington & Richardson Model 65 Reising is a semi-automatic .22 caliber training rifle which was MANUFACTURED at the end of WWII. The genesis of this gun originates with the need for a .22 caliber training rifle for the US Marine Corps as they were late recipients of the M1 Garand service rifles. In 1944, Harrington and Richardson introduced the Reising Model 65 as a training rifle for the Marine Corps, but it was only produced from 1944-45 and a limited quantity were eventually produced for commercial sales. This rifle was a commercial rifle and lacks any military markings. Aside from some light handling wear, this particular specimen is well preserved and remains mechanically sound. The rifle can be used for plinking, but more importantly, it is a WWII-era historical relic. Alpine M1 Carbine USGI Parts .30 Caliber Semi Automatic Rifle, MFD 1962-1965

The M1 Carbine was widely issued to U.S. Military Forces which numbered over 16 million during WWII. The M1 Carbine contributed greatly to U.S. efforts during WWII. After the Korean War a number of commercial companies developed their own M1 Carbines for sales to the civilian market. Initially, surplus USGI parts were used as much as possible. As those supplies dried up companies produced their own parts. Alpine Industries was one of the companies that produced Post WWII M1 Carbines. Alpine Industries was incorporated in California in March 1959. On May 5, 1960 Alpine Sales and National Ordnance were incorporated. National Ordnance produced M1 Carbines and sold a percentage of their M1 Carbines to Alpine Sales who resold them at a profit. Operationally, Alpine was the sales division of National Ordnance. This M1 Carbine was produced with an Alpine receiver, barrel, and stock. Most of the remaining parts are USGI parts including the 2 magazines.
