WWII Arisaka Type 99 Last Ditch Matching 7.7 Japanese Bolt Action Rifle 1943-45
Lot # 154 (Sale Order: 154 of 391)
Our Assessment: The Type 99 Arisaka rifle was used by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. It was named after its designer, Colonel Nariakira Arisaka. The Type 99 was a reliable and durable weapon, but it was heavy and difficult to operate in confined spaces. It was used extensively in the Pacific Theater and some were also used by the Imperial Japanese Navy. This "Last Ditch" Type 99 Arisaka was made at the Nagoya Arsenal sometime between 1943 and 1945. The rifle was made with cost & time saving shortcuts that include a lack of "Type 99" markings, simple sights, short handguard, wooden buttplate, and rough metal work. The bolt is also a "last ditch" bolt made with a simplified safety (no decorative metal work) and a straight bolt handle. These are indicative of the cost cutting and accelerated production measures used to turn out rifles as the end of the war approached. This "Last Ditch" Type 99 is in pretty Good shape, showing a decent bore and has a well preserved stock. The chrysanthemum has been removed. The bolt assembly is marked with the last 3 digits of the serial number on the handle, extractor, firing pin, and safety. This last ditch Type 99 Arisaka will go well in any military or Japanese collection. Please see our photos, good luck and happy bidding!
Make: Japanese, Nagoya Arsenal
Model: Type 99 Arisaka, Last Ditch
Serial Number: 12746
Year of Manufacture: 1935-1945
Caliber: 7.7x58 Arisaka (7.7 Jap)
Action Type: Bolt Action Rifle, Fixed Internal Magazine
Barrel Length: 26"
Sights / Optics: The front sight is an inverted V post dovetailed to a raised base. The rear sight is a fixed aperture set atop a barrel mounted base.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The 2 piece wooden stock has a pistol grip, metal nose cap with bayonet lug, barrel band, 2 sling loops, a through bolt and a wooden buttplate secured by 3 nails. The stock hardware shows a brown patina, the wood shows some scratches, scuffs and scrapes. The forearm is secure but is duffel cut under the barrel band so there is a small amount of back-and-forth play. The seam in the buttstock is opening a little on each side. The LOP measures 12 1/4" from the front of the trigger to the back of the wood. The stocks rate in about Good overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is semi bright and the rifling is deep. The muzzle and grooves show erosion. In this writer's opinion and for the age, the bore rates a 7 out of 10. Many military and C&R eligible weapons have bores that will show erosion. This not only due to age but to the fact that corrosive primers were commonly used in ammunition worldwide. For example, the U.S. used corrosive ammunition throughout WWII. The U.S. military did not begin to phase out corrosive-primed ammunition until the 1950's.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 0% of its metal finish. The metal shows a brown patina and light surface erosion, there are some scuffs and scratches. The screw heads are sharp. Most markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fair to Good condition.
Mechanics: The safety turns but does not stay in the SAFE position. The action functions otherwise. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a more thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment:This Swiss Vetterli is a Rare Model 1871 Stutzer that was made at Waffenfabrik Bern between 1871 and 1875 and chambered in 10.4mm Vetterli. It was made with double set triggers as the rifle was made for accuracy. These rifles were carried by light infantry sharpshooters. This rifle has been rebuilt. It has matching numbers on the receiver, barrel shank, bottom of the shell carrier, and bolt handle. Given its scarcity, this will make a wonderful addition to a Vetterli collection.

Type of Finish:This rifle has lost its finish.
Bore Condition:The bore has deep rifling; shallow at the muzzle. The muzzle and grooves are gray due to erosion. In some cases, the NRA standards disregarded the bore's condition for collectors' firearms.
Overall Condition:The rifle has lost its metal finish. It shows scrapes, scuffs, light surface erosion, and a brown patina. The rear of the bolt assembly is dented. Sharp 1949 Remington Model 31 12 GA 28" Pump Action Shotgun
Lot # 165 (Sale Order: 165 of 391)
Our Assessment: While the earlier bottom-ejecting Model 17 had good sales, Remington knew a side-ejecting shotgun was needed to compete with the Winchester Model 12. The Model 31 was made from 1931 to 1949 and was Remington's first-ever side-ejecting shotgun. Many consider it a far superior action to the Winchester, with a "ball bearing action". This one of the best we've seen, as field guns were usually rode hard.

1957 Colt 2nd Generation 12" .45 Single Action Army Buntline Revolver
Lot # 175 (Sale Order: 175 of 391)
Our Assessment: everyone should have a Colt Single Action Army, and this would be a nice one to add to any collection. MANUFACTURED in 1957, this revolver is a Buntline Special chambered in the classic .45 Colt cartridge, the original chambering for the SAA and with a 12" barrel. It is in Fine condition, with some scratching on the cylinder and a few scattered light marks. The bore is great and the mechanics are strong. Serial numbers are matching and the Buntline Barrel number on the bottom of the barrel matching this early Buntline Special. The Buntline designation originally referred to any SAA with a barrel longer than the longest standard length of 7 1/2". They were originally only available by special order with the pre-war guns being quite Rare. When the Buntline Special was reintroduced as a standard configuration in 1957, starting in the 12400SA range, the barrels were marked with a "Buntline Barrel" number starting with BB 100 to prevent nefarious characters from pulling the barrels and installing them on 1st generation guns to pass them off as pre-war buntlines. Though Colt also sold BB marked barrels separately, we have confirmed that this number is correct and will accept a return with full refund including shipping and any fees if you find that it is not correct. This going to be popular with collectors, a 2nd Generation Buntline Special in this high condition and with matching numbers doesn't come around every day. Please see our photos and good luck!
