Winchester 1873 20" .44-40 WCF Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine

Lot # 1025 (Sale Order: 26 of 384)

Winchester 1873 20" .44-40 WCF Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine

Our Assessment: One of the most successful, and certainly one of the most famous Winchester rifles was the Winchester Model 1873, known as "The Gun that Won the West" for its predominant role in the hands of Western settlers. The Model 1873 had an iron and later a steel frame that was much stronger than the brass framed Model 1866, allowing Winchester to develop a family of powerful new cartridges, with Colt usually producing Single Action Army revolvers in the same calibers shortly after they were developed. The .44-40 Win. cartridge, also known as the .44 WCF, was introduced by Winchester in 1873 as Winchester's first metallic centerfire cartridge with a number of WCF cartridges to follow. Colt produced single action revolvers chambered for the Winchester cartridges as well, allowing users to have a rifle and handgun which shared the same ammunition. This example looks like it has had a long and useful life. The rifle shows wear consistent with its age, and having a fairly decent bore. It deserves a spot in a collection of lever action rifles and frontier Americana. Please see our photos and good luck!

Make: Winchester

Model: 1873 Rifle Second Model Carbine

Serial Number: 375298

Year of Manufacture: 1891

Caliber: .44-40 Winchester (.44 Winchester Center Fire)

Action Type: Lever Action with Tubular Magazine

Barrel Length: 20"The front sight is a metal blade atop a small base. The rear sight is an after-market small blade "U" notch.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two piece walnut with barrel band, straight wrist, straight comb, side mounted saddle ring and metal butt plate. The stocks have scattered nicks, dings, scuffs and scratches. The toe and heel are shy of the butt plate. The forend has a crack at the left front, and two chips missing from the right forend. A small crack is present on the left front of the butt stock. The LOP measures 14" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The butt plate screws show very proud of the plate. The plate has gone to a light patina with scattered wear and minor surface erosion. Overall, the stocks are in Good condition as an ANTIQUE.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is dark gray with shallow rifling. There is erosion and pitting in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 4 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains none of its metal finish. Most other surfaces have worn to white or gone to patina. The metal shows scratches, scrapes, discoloration to patina and small speckled erosion. There are tool marks at most screw heads as well as at the hammer-slot on the receiver. The action shows operational wear. The markings range from clear to worn, but legible. Overall, this rifle is in Good condition as ANTIQUE.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The hammer has a half-cock safety position. The dust cover slides on a rail which is screwed to the receiver. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Serial Number 7 Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle & Letter

Lot # 1026 (Sale Order: 27 of 384)

Serial Number 7 Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle & Letter

Our Assessment: One of the most successful, and certainly one of the most famous Winchester rifles was the Winchester Model 1873, known as "The Gun that Won the West" for its predominant role in the hands of Western settlers. The Model 1873 had a steel frame that was much stronger than the brass framed Model 1866, allowing Winchester to develop a family of powerful new cartridges, with Colt usually producing Single Action Army revolvers in the same calibers shortly after they were developed. The .44-40 Win. cartridge, also known as the .44 WCF, was introduced by Winchester in 1873 as Winchester's first metallic centerfire cartridge. This about as early as you're going to find an 1873, serial number 7. All of the early features are present from the raised "thumbprint" dust cover to the blank upper tang with the model designation engraved on the bottom tang. The bottom tang has flanges which fit into corresponding grooves inside the receiver. The rear sight dovetail is 1" from the receiver. While there were certainly six rifles made before this one, it is possible that this the earliest known example still available to private collectors. For the dedicated Winchester collector, it doesn't get much better than this. Please see our photos and good luck!

Make: Winchester

Model: 1873 Rifle, 1st Model

Serial Number: 7

Year of Manufacture: 1873

Caliber: .44-40 WCF

Action Type: Lever Action, Single Set-Trigger

Markings: The top of the barrel is marked "WINCHESTER'S- REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT. / KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29.1866. OCTOBER 16.1860.". The lower tang is marked "Model 1873 / 7". The left of the bottom tang, the upper tang inlet of the wrist, and the inside of the buttplate at the toe each have "23" assembly number.

Barrel Length: 24", Octagonal

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a globe-style sight with a beaded post, dovetailed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a "Musket"-style folding ladder dovetailed to the rear of the barrel. The rear sight presents a "V"-notch when down, having a "V"-notched slider on the ladder and another "V"-notch at the top edge of the ladder. The rear sight is missing its detent spring, the ladder is bent slightly and the slider is stuck at the bottom of the ladder. The rear sight dovetail is 1" in front of the receiver, consistent with very early production 1873s. The top tang is drilled, tapped and filled for a tang sight (none present).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with capped forend, straight grip, straight comb and steel crescent buttplate with a sliding door over a storage compartment. There is dark discoloration around the edges where the wood meets the metal and the wood appears to have been cleaned. There is notably more finish in the forend than the buttstock. There are some light nicks and scratches. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 12 3/4" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has gone to a moderate patina with edges worn to white and some light nicks and scratches. Overall, the stocks are in Fine condition as ANTIQUE.

Type of Finish: Blue

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright with sharp rifling. There is some scattered light erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 7 or 8 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 40% of its metal finish. Most remaining finish is in the barrel with infrequent finish on the receiver and magazine tube. The worn areas have mostly gone to a light patina. The edges are worn to white. There is some scattered minor surface oxidation with some more notable oxidation around the sight dovetails. There are some light nicks and scratches, most notable on the dust cover near the front. The magazine bracket is a little bit loose in its dovetail. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Very Good-Fine condition as ANTIQUE.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger can be set by pressing forward until it clicks. The top of the receiver is mortised for a 1st Model raised "thumbprint" dust cover. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: A four-piece cleaning rod is included, stored in the buttstock. Also included is a Winchester factory records letter confirming that this rifle shipped December 9, 1873 with a 24" octagon barrel, single set trigger and blue finish.

Winchester Model 1873 1 of 1,000 1873 Rare & Very early Lever Action Rifle

Lot # 1027 (Sale Order: 28 of 384)

Rare & Very early Winchester Model 1873 1 of 1,000 1873 Lever Action Rifle

Our Assessment: Early in 1873 production, Winchester distributed a pamphlet extolling the virtues of their new model of rifle and all of the ways it was an improvement over their previous Model 1866. In this pamphlet they also layed out a plan which would lead to some of the most desired Winchester rifles ever produced:"every Sporting Rifle we make will be proved and shot at a target, and the target will be numbered to correspond with the barrel attached to it. When one hundred barrels are thus proved, the one making the best target will be selected and set aside, and another hundred proved in the same way, and so on until one thousand have been tested and ten targets selected with the barrels with which they were made. They will then be made up into Guns, in which each part is selected with the utmost care and finished in the finest manner. They will then be again subjected to trials for accuracy, and the best of the ten selected and marked 'One of a thousand,' the price of which will be from $80.00 to $100.00."While certainly an interesting marketing idea, one can plainly see that the process is complicated and without sufficient orders, the best of the rifles would remain at the factory waiting to be sold. It also was not ideal to indicate that every other Winchester was an inherently inferior rifle. Winchester obviously did not follow through with the plan as there were 700,000+ Models 1873 produced with only 132 "One of a Thousand" rifles made. The option was dropped from the Winchester catalog in 1875 and nearly all of the 1 of 1,000 rifles were produced before 1880. Interest in these Rare Winchesters was revived in 1950 with the release of Winchester '73 starring James Stewart, in which a 1 of 1,000 played a prominent role. The rifles have since become perhaps the most sought after of all Winchesters among collectors. This example is particularly interesting due to its documentation and inspection by none other than George Madis. The rifle is photographed in "The Winchester Book" and Madis notes "The serial number of this rifle is 778; of over thirty One of One Thousand models 73 this writer has observed, this the lowest number." The rifle is also noted in James D. Gordon's "Winchester's New Model of 1873 A Tribute" as an example of a 1 of 1000 marked rifle which is not recorded in Winchester's warehouse ledgers as such.As a rifle not only inspected by George Madis, but also pictured in his book, this an especially Rare opportunity. The inherent rarity of a 1 of 1000, the rifle's high condition, its extra-length barrel all make for one of the finest Winchester's to add to a collection.

Custom Winchester 1885 Low Wall Schuetzen Falling Block Rifle

Lot # 1028 (Sale Order: 29 of 384)

Beautiful Custom Winchester 1885 Low Wall Schuetzen Rifle .25 WCF 28" Falling Block

Our Assessment: When they were first manufactured, the John Browning designed Winchester Model 1885 rifles were deemed stronger than the prior Sharps rifles, and the different sight and trigger options available made them an instant hit with hunters and target shooters alike. The Model 1885 rifles were targeted at competitors in "Match Shooting", a sport which was extremely popular from about 1871 to 1917. The Winchester rifles challenged the Sharps, Remington, Maynard and Ballard rifles, and quickly became known for their reliability and accuracy. Major Ned Roberts, inventor of the .257 Roberts cartridge, described the Model 1885 as "the most reliable, strongest and altogether best single shot rifle ever produced". Alternately translated as "shooter" and "marksman", Schuetzen also refers to a German shooting sport from the turn of the 20th century. As with many types of firearms, gunmakers took the design and manufacture of Schuetzen rifles to the extreme, with elaborately carved stocks, engraved receivers, and capable of astounding precision. This Winchester 1885 Low Wall has been transformed into a work of art and is simply beautiful. It is now a Schuetzen rifle with double set triggers and has been rechambered and rebored for .25 WCF. The lever has been customized to represent Winchester's final style of Schuetzen lever. The metal has been restored to a vibrant case color and soft blue. It has been set in beautiful checkered walnut stocks and is topped with nice iron sights and a Lyman 5A scope. Not only does it look gorgeous, but it should shoot well too! The bore is bright with sharp rifling and is free of erosion. This will be a nice addition to any collection! Please see our photos and good luck!

Make: Winchester

The rear of the barrel is installed with a spirit bubble level in its dovetail cut. The top tang is installed with a folding Lyman aperture peep sight. The top of the barrel is installed with target bases and a pair of rings holding a Lyman No. 5 scope. The scope has some minor marks and finish wear to the surfaces. The scope has a crosshair and the glass is clear. The scope rates in Fine condition. The top and sides of the barrel have been matted for glare reduction.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The custom stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with fleur de lis accents. The stocks have an "S'' bottom pistol grip, straight comb, cheekpiece, perch belly, Schuetzen palm rest, and metal Schuetzen buttplate. The fitment is shy in areas and proud in others. There are a few light handling marks and minor compressions. The checkering is strong. The LOP measures 12 3/8" and 11 1/2" from the fronts of the triggers to the back of the buttplate. Factory Winchester 1890 Prototype Magazine Lever Action Rifle, Circa 1906

Lot # 1032 (Sale Order: 33 of 384)

Factory Winchester 1890 Prototype Magazine Lever Action Rifle, .22 WRF & Drawings, Circa 1906

Our Assessment: ever since 1890, when Winchester brought out a slide-action rifle with that year's model number, the Model 1890 pretty much ruled the roost for rimfire repeaters, also known as gallery guns in a specific configuration. This tubular-magazine rimfire was wildly popular not only in the plethora of shooting galleries that were across the U.S. but in the hands of young boys and men who loved to shoot and hunt small game. The Model 1890 was a John Browning design and the first successful repeating rimfire rifle. Sixteen years later an almost identical rifle was introduced as the Model 1906.While the 1906 was quite successful and sold nearly three quarters of a million units, one has to wonder why Winchester would introduce a "different" model which was almost exactly the same. Was there maybe some other plan in 1906 that was abandoned? Maybe Winchester wanted to get back to their roots and, as they attempted with repeating shotguns in 1887, wanted to put the 1890 into the familiar form-factor of the lever action that made Winchester famous? This rifle, and its sister which resides in the Cody Firearms Museum, would certainly indicate this was the case. The included Winchester factory drawing, coincidentally dated March 1906, is also pretty persuasive. This rifle has almost the same bolt, lifter and general operating system as the 1890, but the mechanism is driven by a finger-lever rather than a slide handle. The receiver takes down in the same way as the 1890, the magazine assembly is the same. By all appearances, this was Winchester's attempt to convert the 1890 to a lever action..that never went into full production. The rifle itself is in Fine condition and doesn't appear to have seen much use. If there were more than two of these made, you'll have to find the others. This a fantastically Rare opportunity for the Winchester collector to own a piece of Winchester history that never came to pass. Please see our pictures and good luck!

WWI Winchester 1895 Musket Russian Contract 7.62x54R Lever Action Rifle 1915

Our Assessment: Today, the Russian Winchester 95 remains one of the most romantic and unusual arms of the Great War. They are sought-after collector's items, and at the same time, sad reminders of a once-proud regime's unpreparedness for war."This example is in Good condition, likely faring better than most of the 1895s that made their way to Russia just in time for a Revolution and Civil War, not to mention the purges and violent repression which would follow. It will make a great addition to a collection of WWI military rifles, Russian rifles, or Winchesters. Please see our photos and good luck!

Complete Winchester Ammunition 1897 Double-W Cartridge Display Board

Lot # 1034 (Sale Order: 35 of 384)

Incredible & Complete Winchester Ammunition 1897 Double-W Cartridge Display Board

The Winchester Repeating Arms Company was founded by Oliver Winchester, previously a clothing manufacturer, who would acquire the rights to the Volcanic Repeating Arms Co. from Smith & Wesson, producing some of the earliest, and certainly most famous, repeating cartridge rifles. The company would go on to be dominant in rifle and shotgun manufacture and innovation and quite competitive in the ammunition industry. Winchester was quite skilled at marketing both their firearms and ammunition.Part of the marketing effort for their ammunition were immensely impressive Cartridge Display Boards such as this one, showing the wide variety of ammunition available from their factories. This example is an 1897 pattern "Double-W" Cartridge Display Board, presenting quite the array of cartridges from classic black powder rounds and cutting-edge smokeless cartridges, but still having tins of percussion caps decorating the points of the "W".This example shows honest wear for its age, fairly well preserved and ready to display. In Very Good condition as ANTIQUE, some separation between board and frame at corners, some cartridges removed and glued back in place, normal discoloration and wear for age. Per the consignor, it was originally hung in their grandfather's hardware store, then stored in the attic of their family home. As a child, the consignor would sneak into the attic to pull cartridges off the board, keeping them in his own little collection. Upon inheriting the board, the consignor replaced the cartridges that had been plucked off, though not all of them were replaced with period Winchester cartridges. The Winchester Cartridge Boards are highly desirable among collectors, not only for their connection to Winchester and the firearms/ammunition industry, but also as an interesting example of late 19th Century/early 20th Century industrial marketing. It will make a wonderful display in any collection....more

ANTIQUE Colt Model 1883 Hammerless 26" 12 Ga Side by Side Shotgun

Lot # 1035 (Sale Order: 36 of 384)

Very Fine ANTIQUE Colt Model 1883 Hammerless 26" 12 Ga Side by Side Shotgun

Our Assessment: From R.L. Wilson's The Book of Colt Firearms, page 488 "Colt's Model 1883 shotgun was one of the finest products MANUFACTURED in the firm's long history. While production was comparatively limited (total only 8366), every gun made was of the excellence promised in the promotional literature." This shotgun was made in 1893, with 26" damascus barrels chambered for 12 gauge shells. The stocks have been refinished, so they look great for their age. This model was not sold commercially in large orders, generally only as a custom ordered piece. It was one of the highest priced models at the time and you can see the quality of craftsmanship in the gun, still in good shape after more than a century. This one has 26" barrels and the choke indicates it was intended for upland game. With a total production for all chamberings of only about 8,500 guns, all of the 1883 models are desirable. This will make a nice addition to any Colt or American shotgun collection. Please see our photos and good luck!

The checkering is well defined. The LOP measures 13 3/4" and 12 3/4" from the fronts of the triggers to the back of the buttplate. The plate has scattered wear, more notable at the heel with a small loss at the toe. Drop at comb is approximately 1 3/4, drop at heel 3 1/4". Winchester "Class A" British Hammer 10 Ga Side by Side Shotgun

Lot # 1036 (Sale Order: 37 of 384)

extremely Rare Winchester "Class A" British Hammer 10 Ga 30" Side by Side Shotgun

Our Assessment: Winchester collectors will all be familiar with their repeating shotguns. The lever action Model 1887 and pump action Models 1893, 1897 and Model 12. When it comes to double barrel shotguns, most will be familiar with the Models 21 and 24. Less common are the first Winchester shotguns which were not produced by Winchester at all. In 1878, P.G. Sanford was tasked with traveling to England to purchase double guns to be sold by Winchester in America. Selling European shotguns under an American brand was not that uncommon at the time, but most lower quality guns were procured from Belgium and Winchester purchased from firms as prestigious as W. C. Scott & Sons. While the guns were sources from multiple firms, they were made to five quality grade with "D" as the lowest grade, increasing in quality to "A" and finally to the "Match Gun".This a Class A Winchester double gun which is in quite good shape given its age. The metal retains much of its original finish while the stocks have been replaced, so the gun looks great. The bores are in good shape and the gun still locks up tight. There were some 10,000 double guns procured by Winchester in total, and given the spread in the grades, there can't be that many Class A's left in this sort of condition. For the discerning Winchester collector, this will make a great addition. Please see our pictures and good luck!

Make: Winchester, these shotguns were produced by W. C. McAntree & Company, Richard Rodman, C. G. Bonehill and W. C. Scott & sons, but were not marked to indicate which maker produced any specific gun.

The stocks have only a few scattered minor marks. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 14" and 13 1/8" from the fronts of the triggers to the back of the buttplate. Drop at comb is approximately 1 3/4", drop at heel 2 7/8". The buttplate has wear and erosion at the heel and toe with good case color in the middle. Overall, the stocks are in Fine-plus condition as not original to the gun.

ANTIQUE Winchester Model 1887 12 Gauge 32" Lever Action Shotgun

Lot # 1037 (Sale Order: 38 of 384)

ANTIQUE Winchester Model 1887 12 Gauge 32" Lever Action Shotgun

Our Assessment: The Model 1887 was one of the first successful repeating shotguns. Its lever-action design was chosen at the behest of the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, best known at the time as manufacturers of lever-action rifles such as the Winchester Model 1873. Designer John Browning suggested that a pump-action would be much more appropriate for a repeating shotgun, but Winchester management's position was that, at the time, the company was known as a "lever-action firearm company", and felt that their new shotgun must also be a lever-action for reasons of brand recognition. Browning responded by designing a breech-loading, rolling block lever-action. The action on this shotgun is exceptional and the markings are all still clearly visible. You'll want to replace the front bead, but this otherwise a neat old Winchester.

Make: Winchester

Model: 1887

Serial Number: 12239

Year of Manufacture: 1888

Caliber: 12 GA

Action Type: Lever Action Tubular Magazine Fed

Barrel Length: 32"

Choke: Full

Sights / Optics: The front bead is missing, there is white residue around the hole for the bead. There is an after-market metal mid-bead installed. There is a groove in the chamber ring which serves as a rear sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are three-piece smooth walnut with two forend panels, semi-pistol grip, straight comb and checkered steel buttplate. The stocks have scattered nicks, scuffs and scratches. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 12 3/4" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has scattered wear and oxidation. The stocks rate in about Very Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue & Case Color

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is gray. There is scattered erosion and pitting in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 5 or 6 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 10% of its metal finish. There are scratches, scrapes, finish loss and some other marks that have taken on a patina. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with usable slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Very Good condition as ANTIQUE.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a more thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Very Rare Winchester Model 1893 Pump Action Riot Gun With Cody Letter

Lot # 1039 (Sale Order: 40 of 384)

Very Rare & Sharp Winchester Model 1893 20" Pump Action Riot Gun With Cody Letter, ANTIQUE

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1893 was a groundbreaking pump-action shotgun that was designed by the legendary gunsmith John Moses Browning. Unlike Browning's Model 1887 which had a lever-actuated action, this was a true pump-action shotgun. Although an extremely well designed firearm, the Model 1893 could not sustain the pressure from smokeless powder shells which forced Browning to improve the 1893. His efforts yielded the Winchester Model 1897, an improved version of the m/1893 that was made to fire smokeless powder shells. Winchester retrieved as many 1893's as they could and replaced them with 1897's, making the model seldom-seen. Although it had a short lived production run (ca 1893-1897), the m/1893 would serve as the basis for some of the most successful shotguns ever to be made (the Model 1897 and later Model 1912).This particular specimen was made mid-production, in 1894. We have seen less than half a dozen correct Winchester Model 1893 Riot Guns and this one of the best.

Make: Winchester

Model: 1893 Riot

Serial Number: 11229

Year of Manufacture: 1894, ANTIQUE

Gauge: 12 Gauge Black Powder

Choke: Cylinder choke, Fixed

Action Type: Pump-Action Shotgun fed by a Tubular Magazine

Markings: The top of the barrel is marked "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. / NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. MODEL 1893 PAT. NOV. 25. 1890." and "12" (the gauge designation). The action slide bar is marked "WINCHESTER / MODEL 1893". The bottom of the receiver is marked "11229".

Barrel Length: 20"

Sights / Optics: There is a brass bead fixed by the muzzle.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece wood featuring a corn cob style forend, a rounded pistol grip, a straight comb and a smooth steel butt-plate. Both pieces show the majority of their original finish and great wood to metal fit. There are dings and marks, but no cracks or chips. The LOP is 1 7/8" from the trigger to the rear of the butt-plate. The butt-plate is generally blue with scattered freckling. Overall, the stock is in Very Fine condition for an ANTIQUE.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with no erosion. exceptional for the age.

Overall Condition: The shotgun retains about 85% of its metal finish. There is flaking and some finish loss on the left side of the frame and some erosion of the left side of the barrel. The edges show light losses and there are mild scratches throughout. With that said, this one of the best 1893 Riot Guns we have ever examined. The markings are clear. The screwheads are only lightly tooled and remain serviceable. Overall, the shotgun is in Very Fine condition for an ANTIQUE.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. This shotgun can be slam-fired which is done by holding the trigger and pumping forend to fire the gun, this how the gun was designed. We have not fired this shotgun. Scarce Winchester Model 1893 30" Pump Action shotgun, ANTIQUE

Lot # 1040 (Sale Order: 41 of 384)

Scarce and Attractive Winchester Model 1893 30" Pump Action shotgun, MFD 1897 ANTIQUE

Although it had a short lived production run (ca 1893-1897), the m/1893 would serve as the basis for some of the most successful shotguns ever to be made (the Model 1897 and later Model 1912).This particular specimen was made near the end of the gun's production run in early 1897. This can be ascertained by the "B" marking above the serial number; guns marked this way are dated between January and June of 1897. These guns (the Model 1893 shotguns that is) could not safely fire smokeless powder rounds, and can only safely fire black powder shells which are now obsolete. The gun has wear typical of an ANTIQUE firearm, but it remains mechanically sound. This a great option for historical firearms collectors.

Make: Winchester

Model: 1893

Serial Number: 28148

Year of Manufacture: Circa 1897, ANTIQUE

Gauge: 12 Gauge Black Powder

Choke: Full choke, Fixed

Action Type: Pump-Action Shotgun fed by a Tubular Magazine

The action slide bar is marked "WINCHESTER / MODEL 1893". The bottom of the barrel is marked "30". The bottom of the receiver is marked "B / 28148".

Barrel Length: 30"

Sights / Optics: There is a brass bead fixed by the muzzle.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is two-piece wood featuring a corn cob style forend, a rounded pistol grip, a straight comb and a smooth steel butt-plate. The forearm appears to have received a new coat of varnish at some point in time but is sound and free of cracks. The stock shows a little imperfect wood to metal fit and some cracks at the wrist. The fit may be shrinkage as the finish looks old and possibly original. There are many dings and bruises in the wood. The LOP is 13 7/8" from the trigger to the rear of the butt-plate. The butt-plate is generally brown with erosion. Overall, the stock is in Very Good condition for an ANTIQUE.
