History of Egypt Plantation
“For the last 105 years, three generations of Thomas Family members have continuously farmed Egypt Plantation and other nearby farms with the assistance of many capable and steadfast employees and consultants. In 1919, Tol Thomas purchased Egypt Plantation along with his first cousin and began farming. After World War II, his son, J. T. Thomas III (Tol III) returned home and farmed with his father. Steele Thomas married Bob Hardeman, and after the Korean War, Bob Hardeman joined his father-in-law and brother-in-law in the farming operation. To enhance productivity of the land they landformed the land and added irrigation wells. They gradually purchased additional farmland in the Cruger, Mississippi area. Over time they landformed most of their land. Later Tol III and Bob separated their farming operations and land. In 1980, Tol III’s son, Bill began farming with him.
