SERIAL 7222. BARREL 8". CALIBER .44 PERCUSSION. MADE IN 1861. This revolver was made during the first year of the Civil War. It is a standard model that is cut for a shoulder stock and features full round barrel, six shot, single action with complete cylinder naval scene. Back strap is steel while trigger guard is brass. The one piece walnut grips are excellent. Action is tight. Bore is extremely clean. Metal is basically a smooth, very nicely toned patina. All matching numbers including wedge. PROVIDENCE TOOL CO. CONTRACT US MODEL 1861 RIFLE

BARREL 40". BORE .58. The drain of war made the use of private contracts to sustain production number of arms required by the ongoing war essential. The Providence Tool Co was just one of over 20 different firms called upon to build 1861 rifles. Between 1862 and 1865, they produced nearly 70,000 such rifles at the plant in Providence RI. The lock is dated 1864 with company legend as well. All other features were basically the same as those produced by Springfield including three bands, sling swivels, full length one piece walnut stock and folding two leaf rear sight which is missing on this example. The left side of barrel has typical VP Eagle inspection stamp. Metal is now a smooth patina. Stock is excellent with usual dings. Ramrod is missing. A

L. POMEROY CO. CONTRACT US MODEL 1816 MUSKET

Lot # 109 (Sale Order: 108 of 823)      

BARREL 42" BORE -.69 SMOOTHBORE. This example was made at the Pomeroy plant in Pittsfield Mass in 1835 and is so stamped on the lock. Approximately 21000 were made there from 1817-1836. The pan has been filled and rifle converted to the percussion ignition systerm. The vast majority of these conversions were still being used in the Civil War and many of those stored in Southern facilities were readily adopted by the Confederacy. Features three bands, sling swivels, period ramrod and one piece walnut stock. The barrel had no rear sight nor was it rifled. Metal is now a smooth patina. Stock is in excellent condition with usual bruises but handsome. Really clean example. A

Most of these were made in Belgium and sold through mail order firms such as Wards & Sears. Barrel is stamped London Type Twist and the name Saxton is stamped on both locks. The left hammer has a make shift replacment for missing bolt. The one piece walnut stock has worn checkering at wrist and small hairline near triggers. The butt plate is smooth steel and stock has a rear sling swivel. This gun features double triggers. Wood is very good and all metal is patina with no original finish remaining. A period rod is included. A

Left barrel has European proof marks but no maker. Ramrod is missing. Action is loose due to crack under wrist. All metal is dark. SERIAL 27094. BARRELS 31 3/4". BORE 12. LOP 14". Bonehill, a noted gunmaker located in Birmingham patent this shotgun in 1880. It features a box lock, double triggers, double hammers, manual extractor, finely engraved action, round knob checkered walnut stock with splinter fore-end. The butt plate is missing. The action has too much wiggle to seal the gases and should not be fired unless this issue is taken care off. The fit of wood to metal and the quality of engraving was first class English quality all the war. The gun no longer has any original finish and is a soft patina with some age freckling. The stock is excellent with no cracks. Fore-arm has small cut but not cracked. Bores are very clean. A

SERIAL 26812. BARREL 3". CALIBER .32 TEAT FIRE. Moore's patent made in Brooklyn by National Arms. It features a round barrel, 6-shot, single action, spur trigger, engraved brass frame with bird head grips. This example has nickel plated barrel, high polish blue cylinder with brass frame. The cylinder still has at least 75% of the original high polish blue finish. Brass has dulled and no signs of any plating, Barrel has appearance of nickel plating with some age freckling. Fine action and bore. A
