WWII NAZI SOCIAL WELFARE LEADERS DAGGER HANGERS

Lot # 246 (Sale Order: 251 of 874)

This set of Social Welfare Leaders Dagger Hangers is a great example of a hard accessory to find. They are completely intact, with no damage to the blue and aluminum woven facings, or to the brown velvet backing; there are only light traces of wear and use. The metal fittings are made out of aluminum, and retain most of the original finish, with some visible wear to the two clips that would connect to the dagger scabbard. All three of the spring clips on these hangers are intact and functional, as are the two textbook square buckles, which feature crisp pebbling. The eyelets that the buckle prongs pass through show some light, minor oxidation. These Social Welfare Leaders Dagger Hangers would be perfect for completing a dagger, and are in excellent condition overall.

WWII NAZI GERMAN HITLER YOUTH OVERSEAS CAP WW2

Lot # 247 (Sale Order: 252 of 874)

Hitler youth overseas cap. Comes with an orange oil cloth RZM tag and is sized 54. The Hitler youth eagle is hand sewn to the front of the cap. The red piping is machine sewn. Excellent As a result of the rapid expansion of the HJ there was a lack of trained personnel to fill the required leadership positions. To counter this problem Deputy HJ Leader Hartmann Lauterbacher instituted the "Leo Schlageter Schule" in Fletchtorf in 1932. In 1933 the school was re-designated Reichsführerschule, (National Leadership School), and was relocated in Potsdam. The schools mandate was to train future HJ Leaders with an eight week course divided into eight specific categories including; field exercises, small arms shooting, service training and political indoctrination. Following the establishment of the Reichsführerschule additional Gebeitsführerschulen, (District Leadership Schools), were instituted which provide a shortened version of the Reichsführerschule training courses to three weeks duration. By 1934 there were twenty-two such Gebeitsführerschulen, and by the end of the war there were forty. During the war the courses at the Gebeitsführerschulen were shortened to two weeks duration and were geared even more to basic military training to replenish the losses of the Armed forces. Students wore a variety of DJ/HJ uniforms and headgear.

WWII ITALIAN M1928 PITH HELMET LOT OF 2 WW2

Lot # 250a (Sale Order: 256 of 874)

Set of two Italian model 1928 tropical sun helmets (first version pre-WW2). Overall a hard to find display set of helmets that were used during the North African campaign by an Italian officer who most probably came under the command of Rommel's Africa Korps. These examples offered are in excellent condition with the correct wire vents and complete liner systems. One is missing the leather chinstrap. There is an ink stamp on the green fabric inner lining indicating size 55 and 54 respectfully. On 8 December 1940, the British launched Operation Compass. Planned as an extended raid, it resulted in a force of British, Indian, and Australian troops cutting off the Italian troops. Pressing the British advantage home, General Richard O'Connor succeeded in reaching El Agheila, deep in Libya (an advance of 500 mi/800 km), and taking some 130,000 prisoners. The Allies nearly destroyed the 10th army, and seemed on the point of sweeping the Italians out of Libya altogether. Winston Churchill, however, directed the advance be stopped, initially because of supply problems and because of a new determined effort that had gained ground in Albania, and ordered troops dispatched to defend Greece. Weeks later the first troops of the German Afrika Korps started to arrive in North Africa (February 1941), along with six Italian divisions including the motorized Trento and armored Ariete. German General Erwin Rommel now became the principal Axis field commander in North Africa, although the bulk of his forces consisted of Italian troops. Though subordinate to the Italians, under Rommel's direction the Axis troops pushed the British and Commonwealth troops back into Egypt but were unable to complete the task because of the exhaustion and their extended supply lines which were under threat from the Allied enclave at Tobruk, which they failed to capture. After reorganising and re-grouping the Allies launched Operation Crusader in November 1941 which resulted in the Axis front line being pushed back once more to El Agheila by the end of the year. In January 1942 the Axis struck back again, advancing to Gazala where the front lines stabilised while both sides raced to build up their strength. At the end of May, Rommel launched the Battle of Gazala where the British armoured divisions were soundly defeated. The Axis seemed on the verge of sweeping the British out of Egypt, but at the First Battle of El Alamein (July 1942) General Claude Auchinleck halted Rommel's advance only 90 mi (140 km) from Alexandria. Rommel made a final attempt to break through during the Battle of Alam el Halfa but Eighth Army, by this time commanded by Lieutenant-General Bernard Montgomery, held firm. After a period of reinforcement and training the Allies assumed the offensive at the Second Battle of Alamein (October/November 1942) where they scored a decisive victory and the remains of Rommel's German-Italian Panzer Army were forced to engage in a fighting retreat for 1,600 mi (2,600 km) to the Libyan border with Tunisia. After the Operation Torch landings in the Vichy French territories of Morocco and Algeria (November 1942) British, American and French forces advanced east to engage the German-Italian forces in the Tunisia Campaign. By February, the Axis forces in Tunisia were joined by Rommel's forces, after their long withdrawal from El Alamein, which were re-designated the Italian First Army (under Giovanni Messe) when Rommel left to command the Axis forces to the north at the Battle of the Kasserine Pass. Despite the Axis success at Kasserine, the Allies were able to reorganise (with all forces under the unified direction of 18th Army Group commanded by General Sir Harold Alexander) and regain the initiative in April. The Allies completed the defeat of the Axis armies in North Africa in May 1943.

Hermann Wilhelm Göring 12 January 1893 – 15 October 1946 was a German political and military leader and a convicted war criminal. Göring was one of the most powerful figures in the Nazi Party, which ruled Germany from 1933 to 1945. A veteran World War I fighter pilot ace, he was a recipient of the Pour le Mérite ("The Blue Max"). He was the last commander of Jagdgeschwader 1 (Jasta 1), the fighter wing once led by Manfred von Richthofen. An early member of the Nazi Party, Göring was among those wounded in Adolf Hitler's failed Beer Hall Putsch in 1923. While receiving treatment for his injuries, he developed an addiction to morphine which persisted until the last year of his life. After Hitler became Chancellor of Germany in 1933, Göring was named as minister without portfolio in the new government. One of his first acts as a cabinet minister was to oversee the creation of the Gestapo, which he ceded to Heinrich Himmler in 1934. Following the establishment of the Nazi state, Göring amassed power and political capital to become the second most powerful man in Germany. He was appointed commander-in-chief of the Luftwaffe (air force), a position he held until the final days of the regime. Upon being named Plenipotentiary of the Four Year Plan in 1936, Göring was entrusted with the task of mobilizing all sectors of the economy for war, an assignment which brought numerous government agencies under his control and helped him become one of the wealthiest men in the country. In September 1939 Hitler designated him as his successor and deputy in all his offices. After the Fall of France in 1940, he was bestowed the specially created rank of Reichsmarschall, which gave him seniority over all officers in Germany's armed forces. By 1941, Göring was at the peak of his power and influence. As the Second World War progressed, Göring's standing with Hitler and with the German public declined after the Luftwaffe proved incapable of preventing the Allied bombing of Germany's cities and resupplying surrounded Axis forces in Stalingrad. Around that time, Göring increasingly withdrew from military and political affairs to devote his attention to collecting property and artwork, much of which was stolen from Jewish victims of the Holocaust. Informed on 22 April 1945 that Hitler intended to commit suicide, Göring sent a telegram to Hitler requesting his permission to assume leadership of the Reich. Considering his request an act of treason, Hitler removed Göring from all his positions, expelled him from the party, and ordered his arrest. After the war, Göring was convicted of conspiracy, crimes against peace, war crimes and crimes against humanity at the Nuremberg trials in 1946. He was sentenced to death by hanging, but committed suicide by ingesting cyanide hours before the sentence was to be carried out.

WWII NAZI GERMAN WAFFEN M34 DOUBLE DECAL HELMET

Lot # 256 (Sale Order: 262 of 874)

Early, light weight, M34 civic "duck bill" style, sheet steel construction parade helmet retains about 95% of its original smooth parade green paint. The right side of the helmet has a first pattern SS runic decal, as introduced on August 12TH 1935, with sharply angled black runes on a silver shield shaped base with narrow black outer border edging. The runic decal is retained about 95%. The left side of the helmet has the NSDAP party shield decal with a black canted swastika on a white circular field with a red shield shaped base with narrow black outer border edging. The party shield decal is also retained about 96%. The helmet has an embossed ventilation opening to each side of crown. All three flat head liner retaining rivets are intact. The interior of the helmet has a M31 civic style, tan leather liner with eight fingers, a pressed cardboard retaining band is intact. All four of the natural cork spacers between the liner and the shell are intact. The helmet comes complete with a leather chinstrap with a pronged magnetic metal length adjustment buckle/clip and retaining studs. The first "modern" steel helmets were introduced by the French army in early 1915 and were shortly followed by the British army later that year. With plans on the drawing board, experimental helmets in the field, ("Gaede" helmet), and some captured French and British helmets the German army began tests for their own steel helmet at the Kummersdorf Proving Grounds in November, and in the field in December 1915. An acceptable pattern was developed and approved and production began at Eisen-und Hüttenwerke, AG Thale/Harz, in the spring of 1916. These first modern M16 helmets evolved into the M18 helmets by the end of WWI. The M16 and M18 helmets remained in usage through-out the Weimar Reichswehr era and on into the early years of the Third Reich. Further helmet developments resulted in the introduction of the short lived M33 vulcanfiber helmet and assorted, light weight, M34 civic style helmets. In June 1935 the M35 combat helmet was introduced for all armed forces personnel. In an effort to reduced construction time and labor costs minor modifications were introduced to the M35 helmet in March 1940 resulting in the M40 pattern helmet. Further construction modifications were undertaken in August 1942 resulting in the M42 helmet.

The award is in the form of a Pattée style cross with a central, vertically oval, centerpiece. The award comes complete with a piece of original, horizontally ribbed, cornflower blue, moire rayon ribbon with smaller separate police service ribbon. Allegedly another class of the award was introduced in August 1944 to recognize forty years loyal service and consisted of a golden metal cypher with "40" encompassed by an oak-leaf wreath to be affixed to the ribbon of the twenty-five year service award.

Roughly 100mm tall by 55mm wide, machine woven, vertical diamond with red top and bottom and white side quarters and a central white square with a canted black swastika. A 65mm x 80mm black rayon base to a machine woven black shield, upon which is woven an inverted white spade head, with "321" and "3", both in red, woven to it. The use of a black, rather than an earth-brown, shield indicates that the insignia was worn between August of 1933 and April of 1941. The white, rather than silver, coloration of the spade head indicates that it was worn by a non-commissioned rank. The larger red number indicates the "Gruppe" (Group) that the wearer was attached to, while the smaller number underneath indicate his "Abteilung" (Section) within it. This arm shield would have been worn on the left upper arm of the uniform.
