Standard blade front sight and rear ladder. Arsenal black enamel finish and lacquered wood stock. Brass plate. Includes attached USGI style green cotton web sling. CONDITION: Metal is good overall, retaining about 60% of its black enamel finish. Wood has light wear. Bore has a clean overall surface, with very good overall rifling. Mechancially fine. The Mann cartridge test device is well discussed in Col, Brophy's book of the 1903 Springfield rifles. This example has the latest dated barrel (1971) we have ever examined. Remington 1903-A3 action with the shortened / arsenal modified stock and the collared .30 caliber barrel. CONDITION, Very good with the stock having typical bruises and impressions. The bore is bright & sharp. The action operates properly and retains most of its greenish parkerized finish. TDW / C&R

SERIAL NUMBER: 197090. BARREL: 28". CALIBER: .45-70. MANUFACTRUED: 1882. Standard markings on the lock and breech block, with "V/P/(eagles head)/P" marked on the barrel. Boxed "SWP/1882" cartouche on the left side of the stock. Standard blade front sight and rear ladder. Original case color and blued finishes. Oiled wood stock has been cut back, and sports an added sling swivel on the butt. CONDITION: Metal is good overall, with about 70% finish remaining. Some light scratches, dings and cleaned surface rust appear on the barrel. Wood has impressions, dents and scrapes. Bore is clean overall with strong rifling. Tight hammer, being mechanically good. No import marks found. Matching serials on the barrel and stock. Stock has an interesting cartouche on the left side of the butt. Standard sights. Military blued finish. Oiled wood stock. CONDITION: Metal retains 80% of its blued finish. Dried grease on the stock line, in addition to grease in the action. Wood has minor handling marks and scratches. RARE US SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1881 FORAGER SHOTGUN

SERIAL NSN. BARREL 26". GAUGE 20. The US Army adopted a 20ga shotgun version of the Trapdoor Springfield in 1881. Built using 1873 actions and condemned .58 caliber barrels that were bored out to 20 gauge, these Model 1881 shotguns used only three new parts, an extractor, a front sight bead, and a screw lug attached to the barrel. Less than 1400 were ever made or issued with the purpose being able to hunt fresh meat for the troop. The block is stamped 1881 and there is a visible but not readable SWP cartouche on left side of walnut half stock and no provision for any rear sight. There is a proof P under wrist. Condition. Metal is a smooth dark patina. Wood is very good with scattered bumps and dings. Action works fine. Bore is not bad but does have some abrasions. There is a small chip of wood missing under hammer.
