He is the king of the spirits, leader of the hosts of good, and enemy of Rangda, the demon queen and mother of all spirit guarder in the mythological traditions of Bali. Dark patinated hard wood carved in an abstract form representing a standing deity with animated facial features and scrolled artwork representing his long flowing hair and a robe. Masterpiece! Jawa Demam represents a deity that is half bird and half human, most likely a Garuda, depicted in a squatting position and holding its sides as if shivering in the cold. Behind the flowery stick, a leg appears with an upturned curl replacing a foot. According to experts, the flowery stick may signify a shield. The figure is covered in stylized vegetation and sits on a tupal motif. He sports a long mustache, curly locks, and a laughing countenance. Medium brown hard wood skillfully carved in an abstract form representing the standing prince with animated facial features and extensive Madura (floral) pattern. Malay Peninsula, Pangulu style 18th -19th Century A Pangulu-style Kris (keris) carved from Tiger Eye wood Form of a bird's head. The word "Penghulu" means "village headman" or "Moslem leader." This kris handle may have its origination in either Malaysia or Sumatra, as the Bugi have had significant artistic and political influence in both areas.
