1920'S ELECTRIC ZEPPELIN FACTORY SAMPLE

Lot # 179a (Sale Order: 216 of 594)

24" long, constructed of heavy paper over a metal frame with 5 cast metal motors. After WW1 the Germans were prohibited from making airships, thus when the United States wanted to order a Commercial airship which later became the USS Los Angeles, the prohibition had to be waived. The Zeppelin factory produced just a few of these models which were electrified to be as realistic as possible, to demonstrate to the generals an example of a Commercial Airliner. This is one of the few surviving examples. It has general wear, but retains the original US Air Liner decals. The electric motors have not been tested. An extremely rare factory produced model of an Airship. Very Good...more
