RAF MARKED WEBLEY MARK VI DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER

Lot # 103 (Sale Order: 113 of 777)

SERIAL 372875. BARREL 6". CALIBER .45 ACP .Cylinder has been modified to .45 ACP. ALL MATCHING NUMBERS. The Mk VI, introduced in 1915 during the First World War, is the best-known model. The Royal Air Force (RAF) is the United Kingdom's aerial warfare force. It was formed towards the end of the First World War on 1 April 1918, becoming the first independent air force in the world. This revolver is stamped RAF on left side of frame. The war ended on November 11, 1918 so this revolver could have been involved for the last 8 months of the war. By the time the RFC and the separate Naval Air Service (RNAS) combined to form the Royal Air Force in April 1918, the aero planes in use were almost unrecognizable from those that had flown with the RFC in August 1914. World War One was the first war in which air power made a significant impact. Aero Planes were heavily deployed on the Western Front. This fine all original revolver has all proper English proofs with England stamp on barrel as well as Webley patents and dates (1918). It is a six shot, fluted cylinder, double action with black composition grips and lanyard ring with octagon barrel that tips up for loading. Gun is in excellent condition with few handling marks and light high edge wear retaining at least 90% of the military matte finish. Action works correctly and bore is sharp. Very clean and rare RAF marked Webley. C&R
