PERIOD PATENT STAMP BRIDGEPORT TYPE RIG-1880'S

Lot # 151 (Sale Order: 171 of 777)

The Bridgeport rig was developed in 1882 to be used in lieu of a holster. An extended screw was attached to revolver and slid into the plate attached to gun belt . This allowed the gun to be spun and fired without removing said weapon from a holster. This invention intended for gunfighters to give them a first shot edge. There is a faint patent stamp on this example which appears to be of the same era but a patent infringement in any case. Includes the original stud. Rig is mounted on older leather belt.
