SCARCE KING CUSTOM S&W MODEL 1917 REVOLVER

Lot # 189 (Sale Order: 210 of 777)

SERIAL 19238. BARREL 5.5". CALIBER .45 ACP. D.W. King Gun Sight Co. was the premier maker of custom parts and many of their custom parts and custom tuned guns caught the eye of both S&W & Colt who adopted these innovations. This King custom started life as a surplus 1917 Smith. The cylinder was not trimmed so still fires the .45 Auto Rim or used ACP with half moon clips. Features King or Sanderson custom swell checkered walnut grips, King stamped front sight and ramp, full frame adjustable rear sight, custom checkered wide spur hammer, trigger shoe. Most of these King guns had internal tune ups such as this gun with shortened hammer travel. Gun still has US Property stamp under barrel with inspector stamp on left side of frame and gun was not reblued, still wearing the original finish with US Army butt stamp (ring removed) Aside from light muzzle wear and cylinder line, gun retains 98% factory blue so was probably a new old stock Army when sent in or built and sold directly by King. Sights, hammers, ribs, grips and action-tuning were all done by King. Some guns were shipped directly to King by S&W, and they were then modified and sold by King. Others got some King modifications at S&W, as requested by customers. Others got sent to King by owners. They were the top of the game after the war and this example is outstanding. C&R

RARE KING CUSTOM COLT 1ST GEN SAA REVOLVER

Lot # 190 (Sale Order: 211 of 777)

SERIAL 342946. BARREL 4 3/4". CALIBER 44-40. MADE IN 1921. D.W. King Gun Sight Co. was the premier maker of custom parts and many of their custom parts and custom tuned guns caught the eye of both S&W & Colt who adopted these innovations. This King custom started life as standard SAA. King did very few of these after the war as both the gun and cartridge were basically obsolete with regards to target shooting. It begs the question why anyone would have paid to transform an old cowboy gun and cartridge with the supply of good large frame double actions which is why you will probably never see another King SAA conversion. This Colt still wears the original blue and case color finish and two line barrel address confirms it is an original Frontier Six Shooter 4 3/4". With checkered walnut King custom grips removed, you can see the new tempered hammer spring installed. The grips are loose and need better fitting and a proper screw. A King stamped front sight and ramp were installed and a full length rear target sight was added. Hammer and trigger are original to the Colt. Barrel and cylinder retain about 60% original Colt blue. Frame & hammer retain about 75% original case colors. Bore is sharp and action is tight. Screws are true and retain virtually all the blue finish. Grips are excellent. A very rare gun but one of the most famous of all custom gun works. C&R

NEAR NEW 1ST GEN. COLT NICKEL PYTHON (1968)

Lot # 199 (Sale Order: 220 of 777)

SERIAL 78398. BARREL 6". CALIBER .357 MAGNUM. MADE IN 1968. Finally, there is a real appreciation for the different eras of mfg for the Python. Pre letter prefix guns are a lot harder to find in high condition as opposed to the examples from 1990's when many Pythons were put away as investments having never been fired. This was not the case when the early guns were made as they were just good, rather expensive working revolvers. This is a first Gen pre letter prefix gun made in 1968. This is a full factory nickel gun to include target rear sight, front sight, hammer & trigger. Standard features include full vent rib and solid lug and sports the early type two "smiley face" Checkered walnut grips with gold medallion. Other features include the wide target hammer. The full nickel six inch guns with smiley face grips make this one of the sleekest revolvers ever made. No real signs of having been test fired with ghost drag line and near mint / mint bore. C&R

NEAR NEW BOXED COLT NICKEL PRE 70 MODEL 1911-A1

Lot # 200 (Sale Order: 221 of 777)

SERIAL 304279-C. BARREL 5". CALIBER .45 ACP. MADE IN 1966. The only explanation for the fact that before the Series 70 Model 1911's, the factory only produced about 2% of production in nickel and that seems like a generous guess as you can count on one hand how many factory nickel models hit the market in any single year. and factory nickel prior to WWII is virtually non-existant. This rare factory nickel 1911 is standard in all respects and retains virtually all the factory finish sans a couple of minor handling or age spots and appears to have not been fired beyond the factory. Has just a ghost drag line. Colt brown plastic grips are excellent. Bore is like new. Gun comes in matching serial number two piece box with paperwork and correct end label with nickel sticker and serial number on bottom of box. Also, one nickel magazine. Stunning. C&R
