RARE CASED WINCHESTER MODEL 52-C OLYMPIC RIFLE

Lot # 296 (Sale Order: 314 of 676)

SERIAL NUMBER 41448. BARREL 28". CALIBER .22 LONG RIFLE. The frame serial number was applied in 1938. Known as the "King of the .22s," the Model 52 has been called by Field & Stream one of "the 50 best guns ever made" and by Winchester historian Herbert Houze "perfection in design." (wiki) The Post-War Production Recommendation Committee proposed that when Model 52 manufacture resumed post war construction that the poorly received Style B trigger should be replaced with a completely new design. In the event, Winchester returned to the 52B when the war ended, but in the meantime an extensive (and time-consuming) scientific study of lock mechanisms was undertaken. The result was Harry Sefried's two-lever Micro-Motion trigger, Introduced in 1951. Adjustable for pull-weight between 2.5 and 6 lbs,[note 6] and travel between .030 and an almost imperceptible .003 inches, the Micro-Motion was an instant success, and considered the new state of the art in match rifle trigger locks. In 1956 the US Olympic rifle team commissioned ten custom Model 52Cs for the upcoming Melbourne Games. The custom heavy walnut target stocks were completely redesigned with heavy pistol grip, thumb hole, large adjustable swiss butt plate, drilled under rails with weight, heavy full round barrel, scope blocks, Olympic rear sight mount, Floyd weight with swivel. Also comes in special wood case, Unertl 20 scope, aluminum adjustable mounts, sling, extra pad, glove. It is reported by the consignor that this gun came from an Olympic shooter which makes sense but we have no record of whom. Also has small cartridge block attached to right side of stock. Condition. Fully 98% factory blue, near mint stock, near mint bore, fine optics. Top of scope has small area of patina. Just an incredible and very rare target rifle with very small production numbers. C&R

VERY FINE FIRST YEAR WINCHESTER 1894 RIFLE 38-55

Lot # 297 (Sale Order: 315 of 676)

SERIAL NUMBER5138. BARREL 26". CALIBER 38-55. MANUFACTURED 1894. Rare first year so called 10 "O" clock screw model rifle. This type first year rifle is quite confusing in that not all first year guns have the 1st model extra screw and are intermixed with those that do. Given the hard use and age of most known examples, finding an example with any condition at all is quite difficult and in top condition, nearly impossible. This standard 1st model features a full octagon barrel, full magazine, correct Winchester buckhorn rear sight, walnut stocks, rifle butt, folding beech front sight, blue finish with case color hammer and lever. This rifle comes with a tang sight as well. Condition. Very fine and far above average. The frame shows only some minor handling and high edge wear retaining fully 98% of the brilliant mirror blue finish, fire blue near complete coverage on loading gate, near perfect screw heads with most of the original blue. Strong, some brilliant case colors on hammer & side of lever. Butt plate is gray patina. Stocks are near mint, proud to metal with just minor handling. Barrel legends are sharp as new. The barrel and tube retain 90% blue that is starting to mix with natural plum. Nose cap retains 90% bright blue. Bore is like new. Hanger is turning plum and there is light muzzle wear. It may be years before you find a finer example. A
