RARE CASED LeFAUCHEUX PARIS PINFIRE REVOLVER

Lot # 268 (Sale Order: 276 of 687)

SERIAL NUMBER 1159. BARREL 6". CALIBER 9MM. "Casimir Lefaucheux of Paris was granted an addition to the 1832 patent for a new type of cartridge in which the cartridge's priming compound is ignited by striking a small pin which protrudes racially from just above the base of the cartridge. These pins fitted into a small groove cut in the top of each barrel-end and made it easy to see if the gun was loaded. The cartridge used metal bases (often brass) with paper tubes which were usually loaded by the shooter or his staff but were not entirely gas-tight. These self contained cartridge guns were far faster to reload than the Colt cap and ball guns of the Civil War and were immediately popular with officers in the Confederacy who obtained thousands of these revolvers through the blockades from France. This is a large caliber example of a holster revolver that was finished in the white, an octagon to round barrel, six shot, single action, walnut grips with solid pommel and lanyard ring. Barrel is stamped "INVON. E. LaFAUCHEUX BRte PARIS". Gun comes in period wooden case with original green liner with a host of tools to include; a Paris stamped powder flask for reloading the brass cases along with empty shells, bullets and a few loaded rounds with wadding. There is a sterling silver small cap type tin, a metal bullet seater, a bone handle brush, hall marked tweezers, another pair of tweezers, a burl walnut handle pin cleaning tool, cleaning rod and an ebony turn screw. Condition. Revolver is in near mint condition with simple age toning and sharp legends. Bore is strong & bright, action works perfectly, grips are excellent. Simply a beautiful Civil War era cased Officers revolver. ANTIQUE

COLT US MODEL 1860 ARMY W / COLT LETTER

Lot # 285 (Sale Order: 293 of 687)

SERIAL 19858. BARREL 8". CALIBER .44. Factory letter states this gun was shipped in an order of 500 guns on December 10, 1861 to Lt. Col. G.D. Ramsey Washington DC Arsenal. War was declared on April 12, 1861. When this gun was shipped as a standard blue and case color 1860 Army ,the war was less than 8 months on. It is clear by the lack of any original finish that this revolver saw action, and lots of it. The Naval scene on cylinder is nearly gone as is the serial number. The wedge is not numbers. All other numbers are matching. This gun has the steel back strap cut for shoulder stock with brass trigger guard. On left grip is an intertwined CSA in gold that appears to have been there a long while. Grips have shrunk or were replaced at one time. Gun is all gray. A
