WOLF & KLAR ENGRAVED COLT SAA REVOLVER

Lot # 293 (Sale Order: 301 of 687)      

SERIAL NUMBER 343381. BARREL 5.5". CALIBER 38-40. Factory letter states that this gun was shipped to the famous Ft. Worth Texas dealership on 9-1-1922 as a 5.5" nickel 38-40. Wolf & Klar added their distinctive engraving and genuine pearl grips. Guns sent to Wolf & Klar were purchased by many famous lawman and desperados alike. HS Lebman, Baby Face Nelson, John Dillinger, Eddie Benz, Machine gun Kelly all shopped there or were tied into the gun store in some manner. This was Lebman's main source for Thompsons, Winchester 351s, Colt automatics. The Colt 38 Super found on Dillinger at his arrest in Tucson was a Colt factory nickel and had pearls installed , bought at Wolf & Klar's shop. Wolf & Klar Texas guns are a collector category in their own right. Condition. There is some light cylinder face burn, some minor muzzle wear and a couple of flakes on cylinder, otherwise retains at least 95% nickel. The engraving is typical and quite simple. Action and bore are excellent as are the grips. A very rare and desireable Texas shipped Colt . C&R

All matching numbers. Condition. Barrel is blend of dulling blue and patina. Case colors have faded. Grips are excellent and fit perfectly. Action is like butter. Bore is strong & clean. SERIAL 49191. BARREL 4 3/4". CALIBER .32-20. MADE IN 1902. One of the rarer calibers in the Model 1878. According to Wikerson's book, they only produced in this configuration. Features factory blue finish, six shot , double action , gutta percha monogram grips and swivel. Condition. Really clean example that retains approximately 70% factory high polish blue. SERIAL NUMBER 45351. BARREL 2.5". CALIBER .41 COLT. MADE IN 1883. Incredibly scarce short barrel etched panel .41 caliber in factory nickel finish with gutta percha grips. This sheriff model has early features including the etched panel "COLT DA 41" with small two line barrel address. Condition. Nickel shows a hint of muzzle wear and a couple flakes on cylinder but still retains at least 97% factory finish with some fire blue hammer and back of trigger. Bore is sharp as are legends. Grips are excellent. Sharp 100% etched panel. Gun in fine working order. ANTIQUE

SERIAL NUMBER 328545. BARREL 5.5". CALIBER .38 COLT. Factory letter states that this rare .38 Colt was sold on 4-2-1914 to J.H.Behner and shipped to Wyeth Hardware & Mfg, St. Joseph, Mo with special 3.5 lb. trigger pull. (very unusual). It was shipped in this configuration with standard gutta percha Colt grips not listed since they were standard. Finish is standard blue and case color. SAA Colts in .38 Colt are some of the toughest to find. In this condition, they are almost impossible. Condition. No real evident face burn. Case colors have faded to about 75-80%. Back strap has most blue but a few freckles. Cylinder has some light drag lines. Some screws still retain some fire blue. Grips are excellent. Bore and action are crisp. C&R

Condition. Silver is darkening, near mint, incredible aged Ivories. This is one of the best looking sheriff models you will ever see. ANTIQUE

Features nickel plated, matching numbers, aged Ivory grips, blue trigger, case color hammer, plated brass trigger guard and back strap. Only 6500 ever made but most had the shorter barrels as it was intended, by name, as a pocket model. Condition Straps show traces of original nickel yet balance is a solid 85% plus. All legends are sharp as new. Action works properly. Rifling is sharp. Collector quality Colt conversion. ANTIQUE

This is a six shot single action. Condition. Still has suction and locks up tight. Cylinder retains about 30$ nickel with balance blending perfectly. Gold wash is still nearly all there in flutes with flashes else where. Dulling case color still visible. Metal retains at least 90% factory nickel with some scattered freckles. Pearls are excellent. Bore is crisp. Indexes and locks up correctly. Quite a bit of enamel on right side of frame. Really a top notch engraved Merwin. ANTIQUE

The panel scene is a running Buck. Condition. Cylinder retains nearly all the gold plating, almost impossible to find as it is so fragile. Good case colors. Gun retains nearly all the original factory nickel. Still retains some red enamel. Locks up and indexes like a vault. Grips near mint but a set of Ivories would really set this gun apart from all others. Bore is sharp. All barrel legends are sharp. Beautiful Merwin. ANTIQUE

Finish remains at about 90% and very even but cylinder number does not match. The rear strap is patina and there is high edge wear on cylinder and muzzle. Remaining blue is mirror bright. SERIAL NUMBER 29200. BARREL 4.5". CALIBER .44 AMERICAN . This was the first purposely built model for a large center fire cartridge made from 1872-74, pre-dates the SAA by one year. Top break, six shot, single action with original factory nickel finish and two piece walnut grips. Like many of the longer barrel guns, this one was period shortened and no front sight was ever installed. Condition. At least 60-70% nickel remains with balance a pleasing gray patina and some minor freckling. Grips are excellent. Indexes and locks up correctly. Bore is strong. This gun has just the right Wild West used gun. ANTIQUE

SERIAL NUMBER 99936. BARREL 3.5". CALIBER .32 RF LONG. Beautiful master period engraved with diamond shapes, shield and American scroll. Features five shot, single action, spur trigger, tip up, pearl bird head grips, round barrel with rib. Gun is full nickel plate. Backstrap reads " Presented to R. E Collins by his shop mates, Jan 13, 1875. Base of frame is engraved " Waltham, Mass" Under the left grip panel is dealer stamped "R.F. ENEWOLD." There was a corresponding Civil War veteran by the name of Richard E. Collins who worked at the American Watch Company of Waltham, Massachusetts, from 1869-70. Gun is housed in a period leathette lined casket with about 50 rounds of ammo and cleaning rod. Condition. Fully 95% of the period nickel finish remains with minor handling wear and few light freckles. . Gun shows light wear only. Grips are excellent as is case. Rifling is strong with light black powder abrasion. A stunning and unique set. ANTIQUE

This example is factory blue, recoil shield, two screw S&W logo gutta percha grips, round ribbed barrel, target sights, top break single shot, case color hammer & trigger, S&W logo on right side of frame with British proofs on frame and barrel. Sharp address on barrel rib. Comes in a period English oak case, French fitted with green felt , turn screw, empty box of Eley ammo and cleaning rod. Condition. Very fine. Nice case colors present. Grips are excellent with couple small chips. Action and bore are fine. There is some light flaking / freckling on left side of frame and some scattered age freckles but solid 95% original blue remains. EX. Dr. John Hall Collection. C&R
