Features carbine ladder rear sight, post front, single band, saddle ring & stud, walnut stock with carbine steel butt plate. Two piece checkered fore-arm. Condition. Frame retains about 60% factory nickel. Barrel is basically patina. Tube retains about 20% nickel. Butt stock is excellent with usual small bruises. ANTIQUE

Special order short rifle, full octagon with full magazine, Beech folding front sight, tang sight, semi buckhorn rear sight, two piece checkered walnut fore-arm, special order pistol grip checkered rifle stock with steel butt and oval name plate at base. This is an early open top model. Condition. Metal is smooth gray patina with flashes of blue, strong crsip legends. Wood is excellent but checkering is fine but not sharp. Bore is excellent. Hammer won't come down so will need a bit of attention. Very rare gun with special features and in 32 caliber. ANTIQUE

FINE R. F. SEDGLEY SPORTING RIFLE WITH SCOPE

SERIAL NUMBER NSN. BARREL 24". CALIBER 30-06. Reginald F. Sedgley, a Philadelphia gunsmith who formed R.F. Sedgley, Inc. in 1916, a company that remained under his ownership until his death in 1938. Sedgley was known for buying pre-existing actions—such as the remaining stock of Winchester High Wall receivers—and re barreling and restocking them. His most prolific claim to fame, though, was purchasing Springfield actions, grinding off the markings, annealing and re-heat treating them, then re barreling them with Winchester barrels. The barrels were stamped “R.F. SEDGLEY. INC. PHILA, PA. U.S.A.,” along with his circled “S” proof mark. This example is a 100% standard Sedgley offering from it's schnable tip, Winchester style steel butt plate, custom ramp front sight , classic checkered pistol grip straight comb walnut stock finished like a 1903 Springfield. Has his letter S stamped on barrel. Also comes mounted with a G&H type quick detachable scope mount along with a Zeiss scope. Comes with the original catalog handbook and a letter from Sedgley dated 1940, a request for catalog information. Condition. Barrel retains nearly all the Sedgley blue finish. Folding front sight and slide adjustable rear sight with double set triggers. Rifle is without proofs or markings. Mechanism operates by presenting a cartridge to a lifter assembly after the spent cartridge is ejected. This is a system not unlike the Winchester 1866 system that the Swiss adopted in 1871. CONDITION, Very fine with most all blue finish remaining and action operating properly. Several of the brass magazine tubes have impressions and dents from storage. A unique developmental system. Believed to be Swiss in origin and possibly during the Swiss adaptation of the Vetterli rifle. ANTIQUE

Manufactured in France with lock marked "Mr' Re" de Charleville" 41-1/2" barrel with 2 retaining bands and sighted forend band/cap. Walnut stock with 13" lop. Lock and lock mortise are roman numeral marked with matching assembly number. 69 caliber smooth bore. Barrel marked 1-1/4" from breech with Belgian Liege proof. CONDITION, Very fine as found and cleaned at an earlier time. No markings remain on barrel with small inspectors markings found on butt plat, breech, trigger guard and bands. Bore is good with very light oxidation. Lock marking are good and lock operates with cock being slightly loose and frizzen spring being a replacement. Loading rod is from another unknown musket with tulip tip and stock has been cleaned many years ago removing all inspections. ANTIQUE

The first model saw service as early as 1722. This was also the model used by the British in the Revolutionary War. ThIs very weapon is featured on the cover of the June 2016 US Martial Arms Collector magazine along with pictures included in an article about the Battle OF Louisburg, Nova Scotia which the British defeated the French giving them access to the St. Lawrence river. There are four additional photos of this musket within that article. The barrel measures 49" and is .75 bore. Lock is stamped Tower along with GR and crown. Furniture is brass with iron hardware. There are only three pipes. Variations exist in Continental US reworks using British parts for service in Continental Army during the revolution. Condition. Good, as is with all early 1st models that saw years of service and battles. It is complete but there are wood repairs small hole in stock, small cracks, Metal patina but legends on lock still readable. Barrel breech has double bands and is proof stamped but not typical Crown. Metal cleaning rod. ANTIQUE

Unit Marked Ketland & Company Pattern 1777 Short Land Pattern Brown Bess Flintlock Musket, Dated 1794. This pattern of the Brown Bess Musket was devised during the American Revolutionary War and saw service in the colonies, the Napoleonic Wars, as well as the British invasion during the War of 1812. The left side of stock is stamped Y+C 186. This is a York Militia inventory stamp. The brass thumb plaque is stamped G. Ellis York VOLENtr 1794. The lock is stamped Ketland & Co. Serial number on barrel is 150. Barrel measures 42" and is a .75 musket bore. Other features include four brass pipes, metal rod, sling swivels, brass fore-end tip. All hardware is steel finished in the white. This early dated and id'ed Brown Bess remains in superb condition. Stock has a few small repairs and the metal has a dull gray patina appearance. All legends are sharp and readable. One would be hard pressed to find a better example. ANTIQUE

SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1875 US OFFICERS TRAPDOOR RIFLE

SERIAL NUMBER 66 BARREL 26" CALIBER 45-70 GOV'T MANUFACTURED 1875-1877.Produced for sale to US Army Officers starting in 1875. Case colored and engraved lock plate and hammer, barrel band, butt plate and trigger guard assembly. Fitted with special single set trigger, folding Beech type front sight and pattern 1873 rear rifle sight graduated to 1100 yards on staff and 400 yards on base. Breech block and pewter forend tip engraved in same pattern as lock. High arch breech marked "MODEL 1873" Rifles do not true serial numbers but have assembly numbers. This example has number 62 on barrel and receiver, and number 66 on set trigger , inside trigger guard. These are the most attractive of all Springfield Armory produced arms and have always been treasured by collectors. Believed to be the 1st variation with high arched breech block. Breech block and pewter forend tip engraved in same pattern as lock. High arch breech marked "MODEL 1873" Rifles do not true serial numbers but have assembly numbers. This example has number 62 on barrel and receiver, and number 66 on set trigger , inside trigger guard. These are the most attractive of all Springfield Armory produced arms and have always been treasured by collectors. Believed to be the 1st variation with high arched breech block. Nickel silver blade front sight with barrel mounted folding staff rear sight graduated to 800 yards and marked "R.S.LAWRENCE PATENTED FEB 15TH 1859" , Barrel is marked over chamber "NEW MODEL 1859" Receiver and lock mechanism are vividly case colored with firing pin and tape prime cover both finished in fire blue. Oil finished straight grain American walnut forearm and butt stock are US inspected by chief inspector DFC David F. Clark. Butt plate and lever are both vividly case colored. CONDITION. Exceptionally fine with mirror bright bore with sharp rifling. The barrel retains over 80% bright blue finish with a small area of thinning and brown coming to the surface. SERIAL NUMBER 23177 BARREL 20" CALIBER .50 MAYNARD MANUFACTURED 1865. Produced by the Mass, Arms company of Chicopee Falls Mass as the Model 1865 Maynard Carbine. Period New York engraved and commissioned by one of the notable retailers of Military goods and equipage. Profusely engraved with tight scroll and vine with a fine dot punch background and two masterfully executed Battle Scene vignettes. The right side vignette is of two horse mounted offices leading their troops forward into a skirmish line with advancing troops following closely to their rear. The left side vignette is of a horse mounted commanding officer directing artillery fire and leading advancing troops forward. The recoil shield area is again profusely engraved in scroll and vine with dot punch background. The hammer is further embellished with geometric patterns on both sides. The belly of the action has a rectangular bordered panel of scroll and matching vine with the same executed dot punch back ground. both upper and lower tangs are embellished with the same tight diminutive scroll and vine with a chiseled border. The semi-swiss pattern but plate is embellished in the same pattern. and both are fully period gold washed. The carbine has been fitted with a piece of highly figured crouch walnut with a finely checkered wrist and finished in hand rubbed oil finish. The round to octagon barrel is engraved at the breech in the same style and has a platinum band on both muzzle and breech. The finger lever and hammer both have been nickel finished. This masterpiece was most likely commissioned for presentation to an officer of political or financial influence. Condition, Extremely fine with most all gold wash finish remaining with an estimate loss of less than 10% at lower edges and leading edges from handling. The barrel is superb with mirror bright lands and grooves. A small area of light corrosion exist on left side of breech and some light peppering on underside forward of hinge. Round barrel, single band, sling swivels, saddle ring & bar, walnut stocks, maker name stamped on bridge, JTC inspection on left side breech. ladder rear sight, post front sight, inspector stamp on fore-end, two razor sharp cartouche stamps on left side of stock. Numerous single number inspector stamps on metal. Blue barrel, fire blue small parts. Case color hammer, lever & butt plate. Condition. Has seen little to no real use. Cosmoline still on loading tube. Grains still raised with one small blem at front of fore-arm. . Nearly all the fire blue on every screw. RARE ID'ED SHARPS MODEL 1859 PERCUSSION RIFLE

SERIAL 57452. BARREL 30". CALIBER .52. Springfield Research lists this rifle by number as given to Martin McGowen, Company B Veteran Volunteer Infantry. Members of the Veteran Corp had served their enlistment time who then re-signed up for an all Veteran Corp. each man given a Sharps or Henry that was theirs to keep as per Act of Congress, 1864. Martin earned his veteran status serving with the 5th Ohio Cavalry at battles such as Gettysburg and the Wilderness. As noted in records, Martin was mustered out at wars end and this rifle accompanied him home. It is a transition model stamped 1859 but no bayonet lug ie Model 1863 and still retains the patch box. Left side of barrel has the MNM inspector stamp .Barrel is stamped Sharps New Model 1859. Left side of walnut stock marked with two legible cartouche stamps. Other features include three barrel bands, sling swivels, blued barrel, case color hammer, frame , lever , patch box and butt plate. Condition. Excellent overall. Wood is crisp, proud to metal with just minor impressions & a light age crack on left side. Barrel is a pleasing blue mixing patina. Case colors have basically faded to a soft clean patina with sharp legends on frame and barrel. Bore is near mint. Most used military rifles have a history but it is rare to find an example that can be tied directly to a person or time in history. A fabulous id'ed Sharps Civil War rifle . US INSPECTED COLT MODEL 1855 MILITARY RIFLE

SERIAL NUMBER 1144. BARREL 31 5/16" CALIBER .56. These five shot revolving rifles were known to have been used in the Seminole war and later by the Berdan Sharp Shooters during the Civil War. The barrel length of the U.S. Army Colt rifles ranged from 31 5/16” to 37 1/2”, and the full-length fore-end was attached to the barrel by two-barrel bands. The rear sight was graduated up to 600 yds., and the top straps of the .56-cal., wartime-made guns were stamped, “COL. COLT HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.” The cylinders were fluted, and the rifle took either the angular or saber bayonet. Prior to 1861, the Army had taken delivery of more than 700 Model 1855 Colts. Model 1855 Colt revolving rifles went mostly to Union cavalry in 1862, including the 2nd Michigan Cavalry commanded by Col. Phillip H. Sheridan. Rifle features full length walnut stock with cartouche on left side. There are three barrel bands, plus sling swivels and a loading lever. The cleaning rod is missing. Tang is stamped Colts Patent US. Two leaf folding rear sight to 500 yards. Condition. Metal is clean with dark brown patina and gun metal gray. There is an overall salt & pepper texture. Stocks are fine, proud to metal , with usual wear. Main spring is broken and will need one made. Bore still has some strong rifling but needs a good cleaning.
