HIGH CONDITION COGGSHALL HOLSTER & BELT 1895-96

Lot # 257 (Sale Order: 265 of 675)

There may be as fine of condition rig in some collection but it would be nearly impossible to find a matching 19th century maker marked Western rig in this condition. It is mind boggling that a top of the line western rig from this time period could have survived like this example. Soft, supple, bold maker stamps, simply incredible. Charles E. Goggshall operated under this logo in 1895-96 only as he went into partnership with Al Fustnow in 1897. Montana was only admitted as a state six years earlier. The holster is a border tooled double loop with toe plug. The plain cartridge money belt measures 3" and has standard plated California clip point buckle. Cartridge loops are made for the .41 Long Colt cartridge which was first offered in 1885 for the Colt Single Action Army. This holster is for the 4 3/4" SAA. The 2" cartouche on body of holster reads C.E. COGGSHALL MILES CITY MONT. which is also stamped on the billet. There are no alterations, showing light use with the initial g.e.w. hand stitched into the billet. Belt measures 41" from base of front to furthest hole in billet / tongue. Buckle retains 95% nickel plating. Cartouche stamps are bold as new. Museum quality and condition.
