NATIVE AMERICAN CHIEF'S GRADE TRADE MUSKET

Lot # 773 (Sale Order: 126 of 765)      

NSN. BARREL 36 1/2". CALIBER about .64. Native American trade musket with a oval silver escutcheon of an Indian Brave with bow and arrow. Part octagon / round barrel is marked LONDON with a seated fox in a circle. Brass trigger guard and butt plate have etched bows and arrows. CONDITION The percussion lock is a period replacement that is not working properly. Barrel is full length with a dark bore. Stock has been shortened to half stock and a pewter nose cap has been installed. The stock has cracks and repairs. Part of the tang is broken on the trigger guard. This is a rare and desirable musket to find in any condition, and this would be a excellent restoration project. ANTIQUE

US MODEL 1884 TRAPDOOR SPRINGFIELD RIFLE

Lot # 774 (Sale Order: 127 of 765)      

SERIAL NUMBER 525501. BARREL 26", CALIBER .45-70. This is a Model 1884 rifle that was shortened and turned into a sporting rifle, the type of work sold by Bannerman of New York in their catalog. They bought government surplus and altered them into inexpensive sporting rifles. The conversion started with a shortened barrel, shortened stock, then refinished. Lock is marked US SPRINGFIELD with Eagle in center. Breech block is marked US Model 1884. Barrel is Armory proofed VP Eaglehead P. The rears sight is the correct Buffington sight. CONDITION The rifle appears to be unfired. The lock and breech block retain case colors, and the barrel and hardware have a good blue finish. The action is crisp as new, and the bore is excellent. The cartouche on the left flat is dated 1891. ANTIQUE

NSN. BARREL 17". CALIBER 9MM RIM FIRE SHOT. The Model 36 was introduced in 1920 and discontinued in 1927. There were about 20,000 made. There were three types of cartridges available: long, short, and ball. Features a round barrel, front bead sight, blue finish, take down with walnut stock. CONDITION. Fine as found. Blue finish on barrel turning plum brown. Excellent bore and action works properly. Walnut stock is good with light rubs and scratches. C&R

Features extra long octagon barrel, half magazine, Marbles folding leaf rear sight, Beech folding front sight., tang sight, checkered walnut stock was not factory. Condition. Barrel retains 75% blue thinning and turning patina. Frame colors have turned a soft patina. Stocks were hand checkered with 12 kill notches at base. Varnish added. Fore-arm has 2" crack at top left and a repaired center crack. Bore is strong. ANTIQUE

Condition. Barrel and tube are already turning inside out plum with finish loss on left side of barrel/tube. Frame shows about 75% of the royal blue mixed with patina and some age freckling. Stocks are very good having been cleaned, with some light scratches and impressions. Bore is excellent. ANTIQUE

Mounted with green cotton sling and oiler and IW marked flat bottom magazine. IMPORT MARKED on barrel. CONDITION. Very good as probable restoration.
