QUALITY HARDWARE M1 CARBINE W/ HIGHWOOD STOCK

Lot # 268 (Sale Order: 318 of 859)

SERIAL NUMBER 1638526, BARREL 18" CALIBER .30 M1 CARBINE Manufactured 1943 with Underwood barrel dated 8-43, as correct for early Quality Hardware production, Trigger assembly with dogleg hammer marked "Q-NL" on assembly, hammer marked "I-P". Blank, early pattern push button safety and blank mag, release. Operating rod marked "DA-Q". Two rivet handguard marked "Q-RMC". Stock has Ordnance wheel inspection proof, on the right hand side as expected of an early Quality Hardware stock produced by Rock-Ola, I cut sling slot, stamped inside I cut "RMC" indicating early production Rock-Ola for Quality Hardware and High wood.. I-cut, high-wood stocks are extremely scarce due to the frequency with which they were cut down and reissued. Flat bolt is marked "E-MQ". Type one barrel band is marked "U" and is marked "IU" on the sling swivel. Unmarked flip sight with "U" marked front sight with orange paint remnants typical of field expedient modification as done by Marines in the Pacific theater. Bore is very good and action operates flawlessly.. Finish is very good overall. Exceptional early World War II example, this carbine appears to have what seems to be black sand in and around the hand guards on inspection. This particular rifle exemplifies both the features and type as issued to US Marine Corps troops who fought on islands like Iwo Jima in the Pacific Theater of World War II where black volcanic sand was commonly encountered. We may not ever know for certain, but this rifle exhibits all the characteristics of a genuine combat veteran of the Pacific Theater of World War II. C&R*
SERIAL NUMBER 1638526, BARREL 18" CALIBER .30 M1 CARBINE Manufactured 1943 with Underwood barrel dated 8-43, as correct for early Quality Hardware production, Trigger ass...moreembly with dogleg hammer marked "Q-NL" on assembly, hammer marked "I-P". C&R*
