Model 1861 Bridesburg contract rifle / musket manufactured 1863 with full length walnut stock with steel nose cap and steel butt plate with 3 flat 1861 pattern barrel bands. Lock marked U.S. BRIDESBURG under Federal eagle with date on tail of 1863. Stock has Confederate "Z" inspection just forward of trigger guard assembly that is recognized as the final acceptance stamping from the Confederate Arsenals and facilities at Richmond. Staunton, Danville and Lynchburg Va, under the (C&R) "Cleaning & Recovery service. These markings are well documented in Author Steven Knotts published book "CAPTURED AND COLLECTED CONFEDERATE REISSUED FIREARMS" It has been estimated that the Cleaning & recovery service handled upwards of 200,000 small arms through out their existence. These marked firearms are rarely encountered as many of them were taken home postwar and utilized at foraging guns and were modified for civilian uses. CONDITION. Good with barrel having a even brown patina with rear sight being absent. Bore is dark. Lock is good and fully functioning. Stock has period of use bruises and impressions with crack at heel from shrinkage. Both lock plate screws are absent and the barrel tang is chipped. A scarce Confederate reissued long arm. ANTIQUE

SERIAL 124. BARREL 7.5". CALIBER 38RF. Only approximately 325 of these were produced. Has C.W. HOPKINS PATENTED MAY 27, 1862 on left side of barrel. Bacon Mfg on top of barrel. This is one of the earliest known swing out cylinder revolvers. Features an octagon barrel, engraved frame, walnut grips, spur trigger, six shot, single action. Almost never seen and one of the more powerful handguns used in the Civil War. Condition. Engraving has thinned. Metal is a smooth crisp patina. Legends are strong. Grips are excellent with usual minor dings. A few dings on butt. Crisp action. Bore is strong with light frosting in grooves. ANTIQUE DB

NEW HAVEN ARMS JOHN WALSH 10 SHOT REVOLVER

Lot # 303 (Sale Order: 290 of 571)      

These pistols were made by New Haven Arms Company (WINCHESTER) . " Only about 3000 were made. It is a 10 shot .31 caliber revolver. Overall length is about 9 1/2". Barrel is 3 1/4". The cylinder is longer than most at about 2 1/4". Action is very interesting and works properly. There are two hammers. It has a spur trigger which operates both hammers. Pull the trigger once and the right one will fire. Pull it again and the second one fires. There are only five chambers in the cylinder. Each takes a double load. Total of ten nipples are on the cylinder. The right side hammer fires the front load. There is a tunnel or chamber which runs from the right side nipple to about the middle of the cylinder where the front load is ignited by the first trigger pull. When the trigger is pulled again the left side hammer strikes the left side nipple and the rear load is fired. Pull the hammers back and the cylinder rotates into position for the next two shots. Each member of Company I of the 9th Michigan Infantry was armed with one of these pistols." Features a brass frame, two piece walnut grips. Top of barrel is stamped with 1859 date and partial New Haven Arms Co Condition. Brass has toned with traces of plating. Grips are excellent. Metal is smooth patina. Fine working order. This should be of interest to any Winchester collector as they were made at the same factory and time frame as the Henry rifle. ANTIQUE
These pistols were made by New Haven Arms Company (WINCHESTER) . " Only about 3000 were made. It is a 10 shot .31 caliber revolver. Overall length is about 9 1/2". Barrel...more is 3 1/4". The cylinder is longer than most at about 2 1/4". Action is very interesting and works properly. There are two hammers. It has a spur trigger which operates both hammers. Pull the trigger once and the right one will fire. Pull it again and the second one fires. There are only five chambers in the cylinder. Each takes a double load. Total of ten nipples are on the cylinder. The right side hammer fires the front load. There is a tunnel or chamber which runs from the right side nipple to about the middle of the cylinder where the front load is ignited by the first trigger pull. When the trigger is pulled again the left side hammer strikes the left side nipple and the rear load is fired. Pull the hammers back and the cylinder rotates into position for the next two shots. Each member of Company I of the 9th Michigan Infantry was armed with one of these pistols." Features a brass frame, two piece walnut grips. Top of barrel is stamped with 1859 date and partial New Haven Arms Co Condition. Brass has toned with traces of plating. Grips are excellent. Metal is smooth patina. Fine working order. This should be of interest to any Winchester collector as they were made at the same factory and time frame as the Henry rifle. ANTIQUE
